Secure permissions for Ganesh pandals before Aug 20: NMC
In order to ensure that a pandal is authorized, the applications must be submitted through the NMC's web portal before Aug 20.
The NMC has decided to not grant permission to applications received less than a week before the festival starts.
"Once approved, the mandals are required to display the permission prominently on the front of their pandals. Failure in doing so will result in the pandal being deemed unauthorized and subsequently removed by the NMC's anti-encroachment department," a civic official said.
This directive applies to the approximately 1,000 Ganesh mandals across the six divisions of Nashik city.
The NMC charges Rs750 each for pandal/stage and an equal amount to erect welcome arches by the mandals during the Ganeshotsav, while the advertising tax is Rs30 per sq ft per day. Last year, in order to facilitate the mandals, the civic body had waived off the charges for pandals, stages and welcome arches. But this year, the civic body will be recovering the charges. Moreover, it will also be applicable for other festivals like Navaratra when pandals are erected for celebrations.
The Ganesh mandals require various permissions for putting up pandals, stages, hoardings, electricity connections, etc.

Nagpur up 5 spots in swachh ranking after NMC's appeal
Nagpur: The city's ranking in the Swachh Bharat Survekshan improved following an appeal by the civic body. The Union ministry of housing and urban affairs has now placed Nagpur at rank 22A (out of 40), up from its earlier position of 27. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The revised ranking was confirmed on its national dashboard, with municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari sharing the update on Wednesday. Nagpur's state ranking also saw a rise — from 29 to 25A out of 414 urban local bodies in Maharashtra. The city's overall score now stands at 9,836 out of 12,500, up from the previous 9,328, additional municipal commissioner Vasumana Pant told TOI. To a query, Pant explained that since Nashik already held the 22nd rank, Nagpur has been assigned 22A to reflect its equal standing. As a result, the 27th position in the national ranking list now remains vacant, the Swachh Survekshan results website stated. The improvement followed NMC's detailed representation under the guidance of Chaudhari, pointing out discrepancies in the initial assessment. "We highlighted major mismatches in legacy data related to daily waste collection and vehicle tracking over the past three years. After verification, a fresh site visit was conducted, and our claims were accepted," said Pant. Key metrics show substantial progress. Door-to-door waste collection surged from 30% to 90%, while segregation at source improved dramatically from 1% to 60%. However, waste processing, which was earlier marked at 100%, was revised to 60% following a stricter re-evaluation. The city has now also earned one star under the Garbage-Free City (GFC) certification — a benchmark it failed to achieve earlier this year. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Nagpur's score was already contentious. About 30% in door-to-door collection and 1% at source segregation were surprising. The scores in these two parameters increased to 90% and 60%, which gave us 500 in GFC certification were we had earlier scored zero," Kaustav Chatterjee, Swachhata ambassador said. The earlier ranking sparked sharp criticism from citizens and within the civic administration, where officials admitted that weak inter-departmental coordination and poor documentation hampered performance. The latest recognition reflects growing momentum in the city's cleanliness efforts. Even in Swachh Survekshan 2023, Nagpur was placed 86th among 400 cities with a population above one lakh. The NMC objected to this categorisation, insisting that Nagpur should have been evaluated in the million-plus category. Major recent initiatives include the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, Backlane Cleanliness Drive, compressed biogas facility, C&D waste plant, and biomining project at Bhandewadi. Citizen-led programs like 'One Date, One Hour', Swachh Mohalla, Clean Market initiatives, Eco Bricks, and awareness campaigns in schools have further boosted community participation. In a statement, Chaudhari said Nagpur's progress was acknowledged in a recent central govt report for its participatory initiatives. He added that NMC now aims to push for a Top 10 rank in upcoming surveys by intensifying cleanliness efforts across all zones.

Ladki Bahin impact: No subsidised festive food kit for Ganeshotsav, says Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal
MUMBAI: State govt will not be able to provide 'Anandacha Shidha' or the subsidised festive food kit for Ganeshotsav due to financial strain caused by the state's flagship Ladki Bahin Yojana, state food and civil supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal said on Tuesday. The scheme provided kits to eligible ration card holders for key festivals in the state for the last two years. "The 'Anandacha Shidha' will not be distributed for Ganeshotsav. If it was to be done, then tenders would have been called three months ahead of the festival. Now there is just a month left for Ganeshotsav," Bhujbal said. He said this was the result of the financial strain faced by the govt as a result of the Mukhya Mantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. "When there is a scheme which costs Rs 45,000 crore in the year and that amount is deducted from the treasury, then it is bound to impact other schemes," Bhujbal said, referring to the annual expense for the Ladki Bahin scheme. There will be no injustice towards anyone.". The 'Anandacha Shidha' scheme costs the state roughly Rs 350-400 crore annually. It offers essential food items like sugar, edible oil, rava, chana dal and poha at a subsidised price, typically Rs 100 per kit.

Bawankule Pushes for People-Centric Development, Weekly Village Visits & Fast-Track Projects Under Annual Plan
Nagpur: Revenue minister and Nagpur district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has directed all departmental heads to actively consult local public representatives while proposing development works under the District Annual Plan (DAP). Emphasising the need for long-term and impactful initiatives, he said the focus should be on meeting public needs, creating local self-employment opportunities, and improving infrastructure. Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Zilla Niyojan Bhawan, Bawankule instructed officials to ensure 100% utilisation of annual plan funds by August 15. He warned that delays would not be tolerated and that all projects must strictly adhere to government guidelines. "Ideas must not remain confined to offices. They should emerge from the ground through the input of elected representatives. Innovative proposals aligned with local needs will shape the district's development," he asserted. With Ganeshotsav and other festivals approaching, Bawankule directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to expedite the construction of the proposed artificial immersion tanks to enable smooth and eco-friendly visarjan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo He also proposed setting up single-window permission centres in each zone to ensure that mandals can quickly obtain approvals and security clearances. He called for a coordinated approach involving the police department, NMRDA, district administration, and Zilla Parishad to ensure seamless and citizen-friendly festival management. In a bid to decentralise governance and make it more responsive, Bawankule mandated that all district-level officers must visit at least one village every week. During his visit to Kodamendhi and Khat villages in Mauda taluka on Monday, he stressed the importance of direct engagement with citizens. "Field visits help officers understand on-the-ground issues — from broken roads to water scarcity. We cannot rely on reports alone; we must see and hear the people ourselves," he said. Locals and former MLA Tekchand Savarkar also participated in the programme. Bawankule assured villagers that complaints raised by sarpanches and citizens would be addressed without delay. Special focus is being given to rural road infrastructure, particularly pandan (farm) roads, which are essential for farmers' access to markets and transport. He said a large number of such roads will be constructed over the next five years to fulfill a long-standing demand of the farming community. Later, Bawankule laid the foundation stone for major upgrades to the Mouda Sports Complex. The proposed enhancements include a 200-metre synthetic track, a futsal ground, and a modern gymnasium, aimed at benefiting local youth and budding athletes. District sports officer Pallavi Dhatrak and sports officer Maya Duble were present. NMC commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, NIT chairman Sanjay Meena, collector Vipin Itankar, ZP CEO Vinayak Mahamuni, and other senior officials attended the review meeting. Bawankule also stressed the importance of synergy among agencies like the municipal corporation, Nagpur Improvement Trust, Zilla Parishad, and district administration for the smooth implementation of flagship schemes such as 'Housing for All'. Special Camp Benefits 1,000 Citizens As part of the state-wide Revenue Week celebrations from August 1 to 7, a 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maharajaswa Samadhan Shibir' was organised by the Nagpur (City) tehsil office to deliver welfare schemes directly to citizens. Held at multiple locations including Verma Layout (Ambazari), Pannalal Nagar, and Gittikhadan Road, the initiative benefited around 1,000 citizens. Key services provided included Aadhaar updates (97), income certificates (78), caste and domicile certificates (38), ration and voter cards (53), and medical benefit applications (74). Applications were also processed for Ayushman Bharat cards, social welfare schemes, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) services. MLA Krishna Khopade visited the camp along with sub-divisional officer Suresh Bagle, tehsildar Santosh Khande, and deputy tehsildar Apeksha Raich.
