Chelsea Crowned Club World Cup Champions After Beating PSG
Chelsea FC have been crowned champions of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Paris Saint-Germain in a high-stakes final at MetLife Stadium in the United States on Sunday. The match was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, adding further global attention to what was already a historic football event.
The English club lifted the trophy and received gold medals and prize money exceeding $114.4 million, while PSG claimed silver medals and earned $106.7 million. According to global football valuation site Transfermarkt, the market value of the final was estimated at approximately $2.8 billion—making it one of the most valuable club matches ever played.
Chelsea, who also won the tournament in 2022, will now wear the official FIFA gold champions badge on their kits until the next edition of the tournament, which is set to take place four years from now.
FIFA allocated a total prize pool of around $1 billion for the 2025 Club World Cup, split between $475 million for sporting performance and $525 million for participation bonuses. Teams were awarded $1 million for a draw and $2 million for a win in the group stage.
Clubs earned $7.8 million for reaching the Round of 16, $13.1 million for the quarterfinals, $21 million for the semifinals, and $30 million for the final. The champions received an additional $40 million.
European clubs dominated the financial awards, receiving between $12.8 million and $38.2 million in participation bonuses depending on a mix of competitive and commercial criteria. South American teams each received $15.2 million in participation funds, while clubs from CONCACAF, Asia, and Africa were awarded $9.5 million each. Oceania's sole representative, Auckland City, received $3.6 million.

Real Madrid's Bellingham set to miss 12 weeks after shoulder surgery - World
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is expected to miss up to 12 weeks recovering from a shoulder operation after the Spanish giants said Wednesday he had successfully undergone surgery. "Our player Jude Bellingham has undergone successful surgery for a recurrent left shoulder dislocation," said Real Madrid in a statement. "Bellingham will now begin a period of rehabilitation prior to his return to recovery work." While Madrid did not specify the expected length of his recovery time, Spanish media have reported it will take around 12 weeks for him to return to action. Bellingham has been struggling with shoulder discomfort after dislocating it in a La Liga match in November 2023, and playing with a brace under his shirt since then. The England midfielder held off on the operation until after Madrid's participation in the Club World Cup this summer, with Xabi Alonso's side reaching the semi-finals. Bellingham is set to miss the La Liga visit to face rivals Atletico Madrid in late September, as well as the club's first two Champions League matches. The 22-year-old midfielder should be back in action by the time Madrid host Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season in late October. "I've got the point where... I'm fed up with the brace, and having to tug on it and having (other) players tug on it, and it rearranging all the time," said Bellingham during the Club World Cup. The midfielder will also miss World Cup qualifiers with England against Andorra and Serbia on September 6 and 9 respectively. Parish confirms Palace will appeal over Europa League demotion - World
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has confirmed his club will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after being demoted from the Europa League. Palace qualified for the Europa League with a shock FA Cup final win over Manchester City in May. But UEFA, European football's governing body, ruled Palace should drop down to the Conference League over a conflict of interest involving the club's former director John Textor, who also part-owns French side Lyon. Textor stepped away from Palace at the start of July, but the ownership issue relates to the end of last season when the south London team secured a maiden European appearance by winning the first major trophy in their history. UEFA's ruling would mean Nottingham Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League, take Palace's place in the Europa League, but Parish has signalled his intent to contest the decision. "We are still fighting," Parish told the The Rest is Football podcast. "There's an appeal process, so we go to CAS which is the court for arbitration and, you know, we're very hopeful. We think we've got great legal arguments. "We don't think this is the right decision by any means. We know unequivocally that John didn't have decisive influence over the club. "We know we proved that beyond all reasonable doubt because it's a fact." UEFA rules say that no owner or co-owner can have a controlling interest in more than one club competing in the same European competition during the same season. Palace's position throughout has been that Textor did not have a sufficiently controlling role for the club to fall foul of the regulations. But the deadline for shareholders to divest their interest in a club, or in some other way to alter their ownership structure, in order to comply with the regulations was March 1. Real Madrid confirm Vazquez departure - World
After his deal expired at the end of the season Los Blancos had agreed a short-term contract extension for the Spaniard to keep him for the Club World Cup, which they competed in this summer in the United States.
