Heung-min Son has officially announced his decision to leave Tottenham this summer, during a press conference held on Friday, August 1, 2025, in South Korea. The South Korean captain of the Spurs confirmed his exit after ten seasons in the London club's shirt.
Spurs fans were stunned by the news just a few hours ago. While the club and Son are currently in South Korea for pre-season, the captain took the stage at a press conference and used the opportunity to clarify his future. At 33 years old, Heung-min Son is bringing his Tottenham Hotspur adventure to an end.
'I have decided to leave the club this summer. Respectfully, the club supports me in this decision. This is the toughest decision I've made in my career. There are so many incredible memories. It was really hard for me to come to this choice. I need a new environment to push myself further. I need a bit of change—ten years is a long time. I arrived in North London as a kid, just 23 years old, so young. I'm leaving this club as an adult, a very proud man. I want to thank all the Spurs supporters for giving me so much love. I hope this farewell comes at the right time and that it's the right moment to make this decision. I hope everyone will accept and respect it,' Heung-min Son publicly declared.
Joining Tottenham in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, Heung-min Son gradually earned his place in the squad, eventually being named captain two years ago. Admired for his consistency and professionalism, he has left a mark on Spurs' recent history by playing nearly 454 matches across all competitions in 10 years, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists.
The South Korean international now looks to sign with a MLS franchise and is favoring a move to Los Angeles FC, with talks already at an advanced stage.

Sky: Newcastle agree personal terms with Milan defender Thiaw
Newcastle United have agreed personal terms with Milan defender Malick Thiaw, amid rumours the German centre-back could be leaving the Rossoneri this summer. According to what has been reported by Sky journalist Patrick Berger on X, Newcastle have agreed terms on a four-year-deal with the former Schalke man, whilst Bayer Leverkusen also remain keen on the defender. MADRID, SPAIN – NOVEMBER 05: Malick Thiaw of AC Milan controls the ball during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD4 match between Real Madrid C.F. and AC Milan at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on November 05, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by) However, Berger suggests Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri does not want the player to leave this summer, as he sees a potential future for the German in a 3-man defence. What next for Thiaw amid Newcastle interest? At the start of the summer, it looked apparent that Thiaw was on the transfer list for Milan. However, Allegri has reportedly been convinced by the 23-year-old in pre-season so far and having additional options at centre-back may be vital for the way the former Juventus coach wishes to run things in Lombardy. MILAN, ITALY – FEBRUARY 18: Zepiqueno Redmond of Feyenoord is challenged by Malick Thiaw of AC Milan during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Knockout Play-off second leg match between AC Milan and Feyenoord at San Siro Stadium on February 18, 2025 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by) Newcastle reportedly made a €30 million offer for Thiaw and talks between the two clubs continue but the Rossoneri are in a position to demand a large fee for the defender.
