India-UK Ties To Grow 'Bigger, Broader, Deeper' Under Vision 2035
Deputy British High Commissioner to India, Christina Scott, stated that the UK-India relationship is poised for significant expansion under the India-UK Vision 2035 roadmap, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart, Keir Starmer, during PM Modi's visit to the UK last week.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Scott stated that the initiative aims to foster a deeper and broader partnership between the two nations.
"We are at a really exciting stage in the UK-India relationship. The amount of energy and hope that was expressed by both Prime Ministers last week is really positive, and I am sure that under Vision 2035, we will go on to have an even bigger, broader and deeper relationship," she stated.
The India-UK Vision 2035 reaffirms both countries' shared commitment to unlocking the full potential of a revitalised partnership, underscoring their resolve to work together for mutual growth and prosperity and to shape a prosperous, secure, and sustainable world amidst rapid global changes.
Scott also highlighted the significance of PM Modi's recent visit to the UK, noting the importance of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations.
She also stated that the Vision 2035 document focused on a key area, which was education, reflecting the strong shared commitment to enhancing learning opportunities for students in India and the UK.
"We were delighted that Prime Minister Modi came to the United Kingdom last week. He came for one big reason: to sign the Free Trade Agreement between our two countries. Additionally, the two Prime Ministers launched a document called Vision 2035, which outlines all the areas where we will collaborate and one of the five areas that was highlighted in that is education, and that spoke about the level of ambition that the two governments have to work together for the betterment of learners everywhere, whether in the UK or India," she added.
According to the "India-UK Vision 2035," both nations, building on strong foundations, will establish an intellectual partnership that is responsive to emerging opportunities, adapts to the rapid advancement of technology, and strengthens collaboration in education and research, which will create a skilled and forward-looking talent pool, ready to address global challenges and contribute to a safe and sustainable future for all.

"Approximately 10 crore beneficiaries listed under various schemes such as the ration card, gas subsidy, and scholarships were found to be nonexistent. These individuals, who never actually existed, were being used by previous governments to funnel money to middlemen. However, these 10 crore fake names have now been removed from the list of beneficiaries by the incumbent government. According to an estimate, this cleanup has resulted in savings of over Rs 4.30 lakh crore, which would have otherwise gone into the wrong hands. Imagine theft of Rs 4.30 lakh crore. Now, this amount is being used for the development of this country," the prime minister said. PM Modi was speaking at an event at Kartavya Path after inaugurating Kartavya Bhavan (Common Central Secretariat Building) 3, the first of the 10 state-of-the-art Central government office complexes planned as part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan. These blocks will house offices of all ministries and associated departments, presently functioning from Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, North and South Blocks and other buildings located at different locations.

Shinde meets Modi, targets Uddhav on INDIA bloc talks as both Sena chiefs signal national alignments
In what is being seen as symbolism and political posturing, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and reaffirmed his party's ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). At a time when Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray was also in New Delhi, Shinde attacked the former for aligning with the INDIA bloc and exploring a tie-up with the MNS ahead of civic body polls. While Shinde and his family met PM Modi at the latter's official residence, Uddhav and his son Aaditya Thackeray were in the national capital scheduled to attend an INDIA bloc meeting on Thursday. The presence of both Sena chiefs in Delhi — with each meeting their respective alliance partners — served as a clear reflection of their sharpening political identities and positioning at the national level. Sources also confirmed that Shinde had a closed-door 30-minute meeting with PM Modi without aides, during which state-related issues and electoral strategy were discussed. 'We took the path of Lok Kalyan Marg shown by Balasaheb, they went to 10 Janpath,' Shinde said after meeting the PM. 'That clearly shows who is following Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology. People of the country are are doing things Balasaheb never approved of,' he said, launching a scathing attack on Uddhav. Shinde also emphasized that the Shiv Sena was the fourth largest ally of the NDA. He accused Uddhav of 'sailing in two boats' by holding talks with INDIA bloc leaders while simultaneously keeping the door open for an alliance with Raj Thackeray's MNS. 'Only someone who has lost confidence in himself does that. In a democracy, everyone has the right to form alliances and coalitions. However, some people, having lost the trust of the public and are trying to balance on two stones,' he said in a veiled reference to Uddhav. 'People vote for those who work; those who sit at home are kept at home by the public,' he said. 'When Veer Savarkar was being insulted, they remained silent because they abandoned Hindutva,' Shinde said. Taking another swipe, he added, 'Shiv Sena is a party for public welfare, while their group is a private limited company.' During the meeting with PM, Shinde, accompanied by his wife Lata Shinde, son and MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, and daughter-in-law Vrushali Shinde, presented PM Modi with a specially commissioned painting of Lord Mahadev, crafted by acclaimed artist Kishor Nandivdekar. The gift, Shinde said, symbolised the successful 'Operation Sindoor' and 'Operation Mahadev', India's retaliatory strikes against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack. 'Just as Lord Mahadev vanquished evil, our armed forces under the Prime Minister's leadership eliminated the terrorists,' he said. The painting, he added, was a tribute to that national effort and resolve. Earlier in the day, Shinde met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and praised him for becoming the longest-serving Home Minister in the country's history. 'He fulfilled Balasaheb Thackeray's dream by abrogating Article 370, crushed terrorism through Operation Mahadev, and strengthened the cooperative sector. His leadership is decisive and efficient,' Shinde said. Reiterating his Sena's political stand, Shinde announced that the Shiv Sena will support the NDA's candidate in the upcoming vice-presidential election and contest local body polls in Maharashtra as part of the Mahayuti alliance. 'Just like we fought the Assembly elections together, we'll go into civic polls united,' he said. Shinde used the occasion to question Uddhav Thackeray's Hindutva credentials, accusing him of abandoning the ideology and remaining silent on insults to Veer Savarkar. 'They gave up Hindutva. They stayed silent when Savarkar was insulted. That's why people won't stand by them,' he said. Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shinde added, 'Questioning the Army's bravery, defaming India and the PM abroad, speaking the language of Pakistan — is not patriotism but love for Pakistan.' Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray's camp maintained its engagement with the INDIA alliance and met NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar in New Delhi. A day earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi met PM Modi, though both sides termed it a courtesy call. Uddhav is expected to join Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders for a strategy dinner ahead of the bloc's formal meeting. In a separate development, Shinde addressed public concerns over the relocation of a 36-year-old elephant named Madhuri from a Jain Math in Maharashtra to Gujarat's Vantara centre. He said the state government would file a review petition in the Supreme Court. 'The government respects public sentiment. Both Maharashtra and Vantara will be parties to the case,' he said.

He revealed that the government was spending Rs 1,500 crore solely on rent. "Many ministries of the Indian government are being run from 50 different locations in Delhi. Most of these ministries are being run from rented buildings, with an annual expenditure of Rs 1.5 thousand crores. This amount is being spent by the central government just to pay rent," he said. PM Modi pointed out that the country's administrative machinery had been operating for decades after Independence from buildings constructed during the British era. He further highlighted the poor working conditions in the existing buildings, stating that they lacked proper lighting, space, and ventilation. "Can you imagine an important ministry like Home Affairs operating out of a building for nearly 100 years with insufficient resources?" the PM asked. He further said that the newly-inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan is not a mere structure or a piece of infrastructure, but that the seed of Viksit Bharat will be sown from this building. "In the coming decades, the direction of the country will be determined from this building," said PM Modi. Quoting from the Bhagavad Gita, PM Modi said that we must focus more on our kartavya (duty) than on the end result while carrying out our tasks. The ambitious project is aimed at bringing ministries and departments under one roof for efficiency. Kartavya Bhavan-03, the first to be inaugurated, will house the Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, DoPT, Petroleum & Natural Gas ministries, and the Principal Scientific Adviser's office. Many key ministries currently function from ageing buildings like Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, and Nirman Bhawan, constructed between the 1950s and 1970s, which are now "structurally outdated and inefficient," according to the government. The prime minister, accompanied by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Ministry Secretary HUA Secretary Katikithala Srinivas, took a tour of the newly constructed building. Srinivas briefed PM Modi about the features of Kartavya Bhavan. The HUA Ministry has plans to construct ten buildings as part of the Common Central Secretariat (CCS) under the government's Central Vista redevelopment project. Two CCS buildings, 1 and 2, are scheduled to be completed by next month, while construction work on CCS 10 will be finished by April next year. The project of CCS buildings 6 and 7 will be completed by October 2026. On Tuesday, Khattar said that offices functioning from the four bhawans will shift to four new locations on Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Minto Road, and Netaji Palace temporarily for two years, while the construction is carried out. A few buildings are currently proposed to be retained. These include the National Museum, National Archives, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan (External Affairs Ministry), and Dr Ambedkar Auditorium, which are new buildings. Vanijya Bhawan will also be retained. Under the Central Vista redevelopment plan, the government has already constructed a new Parliament building and the Vice President Enclave, and redeveloped the Kartavya Path that spans from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. Besides the Common Central Secretariat, the government will also construct an Executive Enclave that will house a new Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Cabinet Secretariat, India House, and National Security Council Secretariat. Under the second phase of the Executive Enclave, a new prime minister's residence will be constructed. The plinth area of the Kartavya Bhavan-03 is 1.5 lakh square metres with a basement area of 40,000 square metres. Its parking lot can accommodate 600 cars. The HUA ministry said the Kartavya Bhavan-03 has a creche, a yoga room, a medical room, a cafe, a kitchen, and a multipurpose hall. It has 24 main conference rooms, each with a capacity to seat 45 people, 26 small conference rooms, each with a capacity to seat 25 people, 67 meeting rooms, and 27 lifts.
