BJP hits back at Cong's development jab

Time of India24-07-2025
Dharwad: A day after leader of opposition in HDMC Imran Eligar accused the ruling BJP of not taking up development works in the twin cities, the BJP leaders hit back, saying that the LoP is ignorant about the development of Hubballi and Dharwad.
Former mayor and House leader Iresh Anchatgeri said on Thursday that for the past 15 years, the BJP has been in power in the twin cities and is now in office for the third consecutive time. Under the guidance of Union minister Pralhad Joshi and the leadership of MLAs Aravind Bellad and Mahesh Tenginakai, several development works have been undertaken in HDMC limits, he said.
Anchatageri pointed out that during Basavaraj Bommai's tenure as CM, even opposition MLAs including Congress' Prasad Abbayya were granted funds of Rs 25 crore each to facilitate development works, which reflects the BJP government's inclusive approach.
"Over the past fifteen years, development projects worth thousands of crore have been carried out under BJP rule. The municipal corporation is the second largest in Karnataka and has earned top ranking in cleanliness. It appears the opposition leader is unaware of this," Anchatageri said.
Listing the development works undertaken, he said door-to-door waste collection, elimination of black spots, construction of concrete and internal roads, development of parks, opening of gyms, and beautification of the city are just a few among many initiatives, due to which the citizens have blessed the BJP with a third consecutive term.

"In the past three years alone, works worth Rs 500 crore have been completed, and projects worth another Rs 300 crore are underway. Even in the ward of opposition leader Eligar, development works worth over Rs 4 crore have been executed," Anchatageri noted.
Although the state Congress govt has changed HDMC commissioners three times, causing obstacles to development works, Rs 300 crore grants from the state govt is still pending and and crores of rupees to be paid as pension arrears have remain unpaid and the opposition leaders must focus on these issues, he said.
Anchatageri urged opposition leaders to reflect on their own performance instead of making false statements and to contribute sincerely to the development of the twin cities.

BJP workers plant saplings in memory of late Sushma Swaraj

On the sixth death anniversary of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday, as a tribute, 501 saplings were planted at Silver Oak Park, Jangpura Extension, said Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva. 'Today, on the death anniversary of Sushma Swaraj, we, BJP workers, gathered to offer floral tributes and plant 501 saplings. Swaraj was like a mother to all of us. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative 'One Tree in the Name of Mother', we planted these saplings in her memory,' said Mr. Sachdeva. 'Swaraj's ideals and personality remain an ongoing source of inspiration for all our workers. From her, we learned how to conduct debate in the House with civility, even while in the Opposition,' he added. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who took part in the event, said that thousands of women across India and abroad still remember Sushma as a source of inspiration. IAS officials appointments to oversee five Jyotirlinga development plans

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday appointed five senior IAS officers to monitor and oversee the implementation of development plans for five major Jyotirling pilgrimage sites of the state. According to officials, the appointments were made as per the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the move is aimed at ensuring time-bound and high-quality execution of the Jyotirlinga development projects at Bhimashankar (Pune), Grishneshwar (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Trimbakeshwar (Nashik), Aundha Nagnath (Hingoli), and Parli Vaijnath (Beed). Each officer will oversee progress and report directly to the Chief Minister's Office. These Jyotirling temples are among the twelve most revered Shaivite shrines in India and attract lakhs of pilgrims annually. The state had earlier approved development master plans for each site through a high-level committee and followed by formal government resolutions allocating funds for it. 'This is the first time senior officers have been designated for direct oversight of religious infrastructure projects at this level. The aim is for coordinated, efficient, and transparent execution,' a senior official from the CMO said. The state government has already allocated funds for the development of these sites. Rs 148.37 crore has been allocated for Bhimashankar, Rs 156.63 crore for Grishneshwar, Rs 275 crore for Trimbakeshwar, Rs 15.21 crore for Aundha Nagnath, and Rs 286.68 crore for Parli Vaijnath in Beed.

7 held for attack on Suvendu's convoy in Cooch Behar

1 2 Kolkata/Jalpaiguri: Seven people were arrested by Cooch Behar Police on Wednesday in connection with the attack on the convoy of Bengal leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Sources said the arrested included TMC workers and Trinamool Yuva functionaries. The arrested were remanded to five days' judicial custody. Meanwhile, Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya moved a notice in Rajya Sabha under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of State (Rajya Sabha), seeking a discussion on the attack, which he described as "an attack on democracy". Adhikari's convoy came under attack in Cooch Behar on Tuesday, when he arrived to attend a protest rally and submit a memorandum to the SP regarding alleged assaults on BJP workers. As the convoy reached Khagrabari, a group of alleged TMC supporters attacked the convoy. In his complaint, Adhikari named 41 persons, including state minister, Udayan Guha. "We are not going to leave them. If Udayan Guha was directly involved in the incident, the police's role cannot be ruled out," Adhikari said at a meeting on Wednesday. "Not a single Rohingya or Bangladeshi Muslim was named in complaint or arrested. His comments were baseless and he should apologise. Those who disrespect Bengalis and the Bengali language will be shown black flags," Guha said.
