Forgot to e-verify your ITR? Here's what to do to avoid penalties

If you've filed your Income Tax Return (ITR) this year, make sure you verify it too. Just submitting your return isn't enough. Unless you e-verify it within 30 days, it will be treated as invalid, according to the Income Tax FILING DEADLINE EXTENDED, BUT 30-DAY RULE STAYSWhile the ITR filing deadline has been extended to September 15, 2025 from the earlier July 31 for many taxpayers, remember: the 30-day window for verification begins from the date you file your return, not from the E-VERIFICATION MATTERSe-Verification is the final step that completes the filing process. If you forget or delay it beyond 30 days, your return will be treated as if it was never filed. That could lead to late filing penalties, interest, or even a notice from the department.'If you do not verify in time, your return is treated as not filed and it will attract all the consequences of not filing ITR under the Income Tax Act, 1961. However, you may request condonation of delay in verification by giving appropriate reason. Only after submission of such a request, you will be able to e-Verify your return. However, the return will be treated valid only once the condonation request has been approved by the competent Income Tax Authority,' mentioned the Income Tax Department. However, one can still verify your return online, even after 120 days. However, you'll need to request a condonation of delay by explaining the reason for missing the deadline. Your return will be considered verified only if the Income Tax Department approves your request, said IT TO E-VERIFY YOUR RETURNTo e-verify your return, you have multiple options. You can use an OTP sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile, or generate an EVC via your pre-validated bank or demat methods include verification through ATM, net banking, or using a Digital Signature your return is only part of the process. Safer Internet India and Meta Launch Creator-Led Initiative to Combat Online Frauds and Scams

Meta, in collaboration with Safer Internet India, a technology industry coalition, have announced a creator-driven awareness initiative designed to enhance user safety in response to the escalating threat of online frauds and scams. This initiative will include capacity-building and brainstorming workshops for creators, equipping them with the necessary skills to identify emerging scams, highlighting digital safety tools across Meta platforms, and creating compelling content that educates their audiences on scam prevention. Safer Internet India, supported by Meta, recently hosted a creator focused industry event, 'Creators for Online Trust', bringing together digital creators, technology companies and public sector stakeholders to share valuable industry insights and sector-specific case studies. The event featured an interactive roundtable discussion where participants examined the pivotal role of trusted online voices in countering scams and driving informed digital behaviour among users. Speaking at the launch event, Nathaniel Gleicher, Global Head of Counter Fraud and Director of Security Policy at Meta, said, 'At Meta, we recognize that combatting frauds and scams requires cross-industry action and ongoing education and raising user awareness is crucial to promote a safer online environment. Through our partnership with Safer Internet India, we want to empower creators to spearhead conversations around digital safety. By providing them with comprehensive tools, knowledge, and ongoing support, we strive to foster a collaborative ecosystem where creators not only educate users on identifying and preventing scams but also reinforce consumer habits that include safe and informed digital behavior.' Berges Malu, Co-Convenor, Safer Internet India said, 'We are excited to launch this meaningful initiative keeping the creator ecosystem at the forefront. Popular online voices are uniquely positioned to humanize complex safety information and deliver it with authenticity. This campaign is an important milestone in our broader goal of creating a digitally secure India where every user feels empowered and informed.' Meta recently launched the second edition of its anti-scams campaign, Scams se Bacho 2.0 in collaboration with multiple creators to deliver digital safety tips with a twist. This year's campaign brings scam awareness into public spaces across some of the most iconic streets in Mumbai, using culturally relevant and visually impactful storytelling to inform people about common online scams such as fake loan scams, impersonation and OTP fraud, among others. 50% tax waiver for properties in PCMC red zone from next fiscal

1 2 Pune: The PCMC on Tuesday decided to offer a 50% discount in general tax for properties in the red zone from the next financial year, prompting protest from several housing societies. The tax waiver proposal was approved in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)'s standing committee and general body meetings. A senior official from the property tax department said the decision, effective from April 1, 2026 (for the 2026-27 fiscal), would apply only to property owners who clear all their pending dues. Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh told TOI that the civic body was unable to provide many facilities like schools and sports facilities to the residents in the red zone area. Hence, offering them some concession in the property tax was under consideration. "The residents will get a 50% waiver on the general tax component mentioned in the property tax bill," he said. According to officials, a 2,000-yard area around Dehu Road Ordnance Depot and a 1,200-yard area around Dighi Magazine Depot are considered red zones. Construction activities are prohibited there, as per the Works of Defence Act, 1903. Avinash Shinde, the assistant municipal commissioner and the head of the PCMC's property tax department, said the waiver would be applicable to non-residential properties, including industrial units operating from Talawade. Over 3,000 industrial units in and around Talawade are in the red zone area. While the civic body hopes to recover long-pending dues from property owners in the red zone through this move, housing societies strongly opposed it. "This is an injustice to those who pay their taxes regularly. We also do not receive adequate facilities from the municipal corporation despite paying taxes," said Sanjeevan Sangle, the chairman of Chikhali-Moshi Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Societies Federation, after writing a letter to the municipal commissioner over the issue. Sangle said offering a discount for properties in the red zone was like promoting unauthorised constructions because all these structures are illegal.
