SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Somerset County man is facing charges after multiple raids at an apartment led to the discovery of heroin, fentanyl and other drugs.
James Keyser, 51, is facing drug charges after he was allegedly caught with various drugs three separate times in the last year, according to a criminal complaint. The first incident was in April 2024 after officers with the PA Office of Attorney General and the Somerset County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at an apartment on Missoura Street.
Officers noted that during the search of the apartment, 'various drug paraphernalia' were located in a bedroom, along with a backpack that belonged to Keyser. Keyser agreed to let officers search his bag, and the following items were found:
20 stamp bags of suspected heroin marked 'ghostbuster'
Seven stamp bags of suspected heroin marked '420 Venom'
One baggie of suspected fentanyl
One baggie of suspected fentanyl marked 'Manitoba'
One baggie of suspected meth
Seven pills of suspected Oxycodone marked 'M05 52'
Empty stamp bags
Two sheets of tin foil
One plastic straw with white residue
One digital scale
$460 in cash
Cambria County woman caught with meth, crack and cocaine, police said
Keyser and Amy Johnson, 47, of Somerset, were found in the apartment and charged but were released at the time pending further investigation.
The second incident happened on Sept. 1, 2024, when officers with the Somerset Borough Police were called to Center Avenue for a reported overdose. Officers found an unresponsive male in a bathroom and had to administer Narcan before the patient was released into EMS care. The person who was with the overdose victim admitted that they had been with Keyser before the incident.
The witness told officers that they saw Keyser give the man two stamp bags of what they thought were heroin or fentanyl, according to the affidavit. Officers then applied for and were granted a search warrant to once again search Keyser's apartment on Missoura Street.
During a search of the apartment, officers found 43 baggies marked 'STAY HIGH' that held a crystal-like substance. They also found drug paraphernalia including glass smoking devices, stamp bags, digital scales and prescription medication.
Police also noted in the complaint that a cell phone was found and that Keyser used it to 'solicit drug sales in the hopes of buying, trading or selling illicit drugs for profit.'
The third incident happened on March 4, 2025, when officers conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, officers allegedly found 420 stamp bags of suspected fentanyl. A search warrant was granted, and they found even more suspected fentanyl and a revolver. Both Keyser and Mathew Kalina were arrested and charged for this incident.
Johnson is only facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 25.
Keyser is facing multiple felony charges of possession with the intent to deliver and criminal use of a communication facility, along with misdemeanor charges of intent to possess a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He's in the Somerset County Prison with bail set at 10% of $200,000. He has yet to be arraigned on charges for the third incident.
Kalina is being kept in the Somerset County Prison with charges pending, according to Somerset County District Attorney Molly Metzgar.

‘This is not who we are:' State College church reacts after Pride flag burned

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — A State College man was arrested after police said he lit a Pride flag on fire at a church, shouted homophobic slurs, and damaged other decorations. The church reacted to the incident and shared a message to the community. The incident occurred outside the Faith United Church of Christ in Downtown State College. Reverend & church Pastor Jes Kast got the text the day the incident occurred and said she was worried. 'My initial reaction was, this is something that is that we will not stand for in our community. That's not who State College is, and that we need to take action immediately, calm, peaceful action, and this needs to be reported,' Kast said. Police: State College man arrested for setting PRIDE flag on fire at local church The church has a camera outside of the main door, and they were able to send video evidence to the State College police. Officers were then able to arrest 27-year-old Markos Bejiga, a resident of State College. He was charged with one felony count of causing or risking a catastrophe, a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, and three summary counts of criminal mischief. Investigators say Bejiga lit a Pride flag on fire outside the Faith United Church of Christ, attempted to set another flag ablaze while climbing a streetlight pole, and damaged decorations at Chumley's and Café 210 West. He is also accused of shouting slurs at bystanders during the acts. 'He had some sort of, I think, an aerosol and a lighter to try and light that up there. It's hard to reach the Pride banner from below, so you have to stand up. So we think that's what happened, but I'm letting the police look into that,' Kast said. Kast said she has a two-fold message for everyone in the State College community after this incident. 'This is not who we are, we won't stand for any form of hatred, we won't stand for any form of vandalism or arson. Our community is one of respect, respect of all sorts of people. And so we as a community will stand up to any form of hatred that there may be,' Kast said. 'Like, in the words of Jesus, love one another, it's the very words that are written in our stained glass windows here that blessed are the peacemakers, that's who we will be in this community, that's who we've been since the 1930s, and that's who we will continue to be.' Bejiga will be formally arraigned in July. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Pennsylvania, Virginia finalize concealed carry agreement between states

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — A reciprocity agreement between Pennsylvania and Virginia for concealed carry permits has been finalized. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday, along with Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, announced on June 11 that holders of licenses to carry firearms can carry a concealed firearm in both states. 'Shortly after taking office, I asked my staff to review opportunities to maximize reciprocity agreements with willing states and ensure all existing and future agreements protect and respect standing law and constitutional rights,' Attorney General Sunday said. 'Our research of law in both states revealed nothing conflicting that would disallow permit holders to carry in both states.' According to the office of Attorney General, legal staff in Pennsylvania reached out to Virginia State Police officials in April 2025 to discuss renewal. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) allows firearm license holders from Pennsylvania to carry a firearm concealed on their person or in a vehicle in Virginia, and license holders in Virginia to do the same. This MOU is only applicable to handguns and has requirements for the permit holders. They must be at least 21 years of age, carry photo identification, display their concealed carry permit when asked by law enforcement, and have not previously had their concealed carry permit revoked. With this renewed agreement, Virginia is the 30th state with which Pennsylvania has concealed carry reciprocity agreements. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
