Vijay's Film Career Ending With Jana Nayagan? Mamitha Baiju Sets the Record Straight

Ever since Vijay launched his political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in February 2024, there have been rumours that Jana Nayagan might be his last film. His co-star Mamitha Baiju was recently asked if she had spoken to him about it, and she shared her thoughts on the topic.
While attending the Kerala Carnival in Ireland, Mamitha Baiju was asked if Vijay plans to quit acting soon. Responding in Malayalam, she shared, 'One day, when we were shooting together, I casually asked him whether Jana Nayagan is truly his last movie. Vijay sir candidly responded that it will depend on how the elections go. He said, we'll see what happens."
Mamitha added, 'In the last days of shooting, I got very emotional along with everyone else, and on the final day, he got emotional too."
Mamitha also mentioned that Vijay became quite emotional during the shoot, so much so that he couldn't even pose for photos with the team. A clip of her response is now going viral online.
Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, brings together an exciting ensemble cast led by Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol. The film also features big names like Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani in pivotal roles.
To mark Vijay's 51st birthday on June 22, the makers released a teaser titled The First Roar, which quickly gained traction online. In the teaser, Vijay is seen in a police avatar.
Vijay was last seen in The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT), a sci-fi drama directed by Venkat Prabhu, where he played both father and son. Co-starring Sneha and Meenakshi Chaudhary, the film is currently streaming on Netflix.
Jana Nayagan is scheduled for a grand release on 9 January 2026. Interestingly, Mamitha Baiju, who shares her birthday with Vijay, is also juggling several other projects, including the highly anticipated Suriya 46.
As speculation continues around whether Jana Nayagan will be Vijay's final film before he shifts full-time to politics, much will depend on the outcome of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026.
