Who's wearing it now: TE Brock Bowers
Bowers was the Raiders top pick at 13 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Napa native and University of Georgia product was one of the most anticipated tight end prospects to come out in years. And he lived up to every bit of the hype. The two-time Mackey Award winner had a rookie season for the ages. His 1194 receiving yards broke Mike Ditka's six-decade old rookie tight end record and his 112 receptions set the all-time NFL rookie record along with the Raiders single-season receptions record.
Another season like that and he will quickly become not just who is wearing 89 now, but the best to ever wear it. I mean, unless he changes his number.
Who wore it best: WR Amari Cooper
Coop was the Raiders' pick at four overall in the 2015 draft. He began his career with consecutive 1000-yard seasons and made the Pro Bowl both seasons. In the middle of his fourth season with the team, the Raiders traded him to Dallas fo a first round pick.

Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to get back to the Super Bowl for the fourth straight season. Kansas City went on an incredible run in 2024, defeating the Houston Texans and the Buffalo Bills in the postseason before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Despite their sucess, the Chiefs missed the contribution of wide receiver Rashee Rice. The talented receiver suffered a season-ending knee injury, playing four games in his second season in the league. Last week, Rice suffered a groin injury that caused him to miss a couple of days of practice. On Monday, Rice made his return. While the extent of the groin injury has yet to be reported, the presence of Rice is a great sign for Reid and the coaching staff. Rice proved to be one of the best players on the offensive side of the ball for Kansas City last season in the limited time he was available. This year, he'll be playing alongside one of the most talented units the Chiefs have fielded in years with receivers Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and Xavier Worthy. But how much Rice will be able to be on the field this season is very much in doubt. Last month, he pleaded guilty to two third-degree felonies for his role in a high-speed car crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024, and he was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days in jail. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has earned four All-Pro selections and 10 Pro Bowl nods, leading to several media opportunities such as commercials and even a television hosting gig. However, Kelce said those side jobs may have led to him not being as focused as he should have been last season. Speaking to GQ's Sean Manning in a recent interview published Tuesday that touches on various topics from his relationship with Taylor Swift to his storied career that has included three Super Bowl wins, Kelce said he is trying to lock in more than he had in the past two seasons, which he said may have impacted his play. 'I think it might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up,' Kelce told Manning. 'Opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer. I don't say this as 'I shouldn't have done it.' I'm just saying that my work ethic is such that I have so much pride in how I do things that I never want the product to tail off, and I feel like these past two years haven't been to my standard. I just have such a motivation to show up this year for my guys.' Last season, Kelce's 823 receiving yards were his lowest since 2015, when he finished with 875 receiving yards. He also had 97 catches and three receiving touchdowns. Kelce and the Chiefs are trying to rebound from their 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles, where Kelce was held to four catches for 39 yards. Jets' Sauce Gardner sits out practice with sore calf, status for preseason game vs. Giants uncertain
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner sat out the team's joint practice with the Giants on Wednesday because of a sore calf. Gardner participated in practice Tuesday at the Jets' facility in Florham Park but wasn't spotted during the teams' session at the Giants' facility Wednesday. 'Sauce wasn't out (there) today,' coach Aaron Glenn said after practice. 'He had some calf soreness. We'll continue to evaluate him and see exactly where he's at.' Gardner has been one of the Jets' best players since being drafted fourth overall out of Cincinnati in 2022. He was the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and was an All-Pro selection in his first two NFL seasons. The 24-year-old Gardner had a slightly off season, by his standards, last year but is still considered one of the league's elite cornerbacks. Gardner signed a four-year, $120.4 million extension through the 2030 season, making him the NFL's highest-paid player at his position. He also is the focal point of a new-look secondary for the Jets, who have Gardner and free-agent signing Brandon Stephens at cornerback, with Michael Carter as the nickelback and free-agent signing Andre Cisco and Tony Adams at safety. The Jets don't have another full practice before their preseason game against the Giants on Saturday night. Glenn declined to say whether he would play his starters in that game — 'The plan is the plan,' is all he would divulge — so it's unclear if Gardner would participate even if healthy. Typically, teams play their starters for a quarter or a half in the second game, using it as a warmup for the regular season while backups typically play the final preseason game. Rookie quarterback Brady Cook, an undrafted free agent out of Missouri, was back on the field after leaving practice Tuesday with an ankle injury after someone stepped on his foot. He didn't participate in team drills. 'Held him out, but I anticipate him playing this week,' Glenn said. 'So that's good.' Cook is one of just three healthy quarterbacks on the Jets' roster, with starter Justin Fields and Adrian Martinez.
