Sixth Street Sees Wins in Europe's Dysfunctional Capital Markets
Executives in Europe are increasingly avoiding the public markets or looking to sell their firms to US buyers for higher valuations, according to Julian Salisbury, partner and co-chief investment officer for Sixth Street. That presents opportunities to Sixth Street, which provides financing for European firms that are still private or in pursuing takeovers of already-listed firms, according to Salisbury.

DWP state pensioners able to cut TV licence to £0 in fully legally manoeuvre
TV licence costs are one of the most controversial taxes in the UK - along with the likes of Inheritance Tax - which can leave pensioners in particular trying to search for ways to make ends meet on their weekly state pension. Despite the surge in popularity of streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney Plus and Amazon Prime Video, the TV licence is still required for nearly all households, as watching any live programme as it's broadcast, or any BBC show, obligates you to pay the charge which is now set at £174.50, reports While some are happy to fund the BBC and the free-to-air broadcast infrastructure the TV licence funds, others are increasingly asking why they are paying up for something they find themselves not using. READ MORE: Warning over rise of DWP pension age in the future Get breaking news on BirminghamLive WhatsApp, click the link to join There's never been a better time to see if you can cut the costs of your TV licence, possibly all the way to £0, depending on your income and personal circumstances, according to the rules set by TV Licensing. State pensioners don't automatically qualify for a TV licence that's free. Instead, they need to be aged 74 or over, with an income beneath a certain threshold. Your income also needs to be low enough to qualify for Pension Credit. The benefit is given to those who have less than £227.10 per week income (£346.60 for a couple), based on the new rates which were introduced in April. Anyone who hit state pension age before April 2016, will be on the old basic state pension, which only pays £176.45, unless you have other top ups like the Pre-97 Additional State Pension. Therefore, unless you have other income or savings, everyone on the old state pension will be eligible to claim Pension Credit. This is not automatic, and it must be claimed from the DWP with an application. In turn, those who are claiming Pension Credit will be able to apply for a free TV licence. If you were already claiming Pension Credit, you can make your free TV licence application aged 74, instead of waiting until you're 75. TV Licensing says: "You can apply for a free TV licence if you, as the licence holder, are 75 years or older AND you, or your partner living at the same address, receive Pension Credit. "If you already receive Pension Credit, you can apply for your free licence when you are 74 years old. "We'll update your payments to cover you until your 75th birthday, and then you'll be covered by your free licence. "We'll confirm this in writing." Even if you have too much income to qualify for pension credit, if anyone in your household is legally blind, you could at least cut your TV licence in half to just £84. It only needs one person in the household to be legally blind to cut the whole household bill in half.

Ethereum Treasuries a Better Investment Than ETH ETFs: Standard Chartered
Buying shares in Ethereum treasuries is a better investment than buying ETH exchange-traded funds, an analyst wrote in a Wednesday note. Standard Chartered digital assets researcher Geoffrey Kendrick wrote Wednesday that treasuries are offering shareholders better value for money as the net asset value—the per share valuation of the asset in an ETF—is increasing compared to ETFs. "This normalisation of the net asset value multiple makes the treasury companies now very investable for investors seeking access to ETH price appreciation, increasing ETH per share (SBET uses an ETH concentration measure which is increasing) and access to staking rewards," he wrote. He added: "Given NAV multiples are currently just above 1 I see the ETH treasury companies as a better asset to buy than the US spot ETH ETFs." Kendrick's note comes as the treasuries have mushroomed but also as investors have poured assets into the nine ETH funds currently listed. SharpLink (SBET) and BitMine Immersion, among others, already hold $1.9 billion and nearly $3 billion in ETH, respectively, over the few weeks since debuting their strategies. ETH ETFs—approved last year—give investors exposure to the second largest digital coin by market value via shares that trade on stock exchanges. But companies have started buying ETH in the hope people will buy their shares as an investment. ETH can generate users returns as the coins can be used in staking—a practice where holders lock up their tokens to support the cryptocurrency's network in exchange for more ETH. Kendrick noted: "ETH treasury companies are becoming more important, in terms of flows, than their BTC equivalents. Since the start of June they have bought 1% of all ETH." Ethereum ETFs Massively Outpace Bitcoin Funds—Why ETH Demand Is Surging Both SharpLink and BitMine are copying the Strategy—formerly MicroStrategy—blueprint of buying digital assets to boost stock prices. Strategy first started buying Bitcoin in 2020 after years of low share prices and now holds 628,791 BTC worth over $72 billion. The company now works to issue debt to buy Bitcoin, and investors purchase the company's shares to get exposure to the leading digital asset. ETH was recently trading for nearly $3,675 per coin, down 1.5% over the past week but up by close to 46% in the past 30 days, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko. Roughly 50% of participants in a Myriad Markets prediction market say that Ethereum will breach $5,000 by the end of 2025.
