Australian shopper loves 'unreal' UK supermarkets with 'amazing' lunches
Brits have been left astounded after a woman who moved from Australia to the UK revealed some of the differences she's noticed. In a video that's gone viral, she highlighted several changes that surprised her, from supermarkets to pop stars, houses, and the weather.
Posting on TikTok as @ella.overseas, Ella Smith told her followers: "These are some random things I found to be different as an Australian who's just moved to the UK." She said, "So the first one is that you can buy alcohol at like any of the main food supermarkets.

"You just take it to the checkout, and someone comes and presses the button or checks your ID." Ella continued: "Next thing is meal deals. We don't have anything like this in Australia. I really think it's amazing."

Ella was so impressed she said she'd happily eat a supermarket lunch every day of the week. "I love Tesco so much, I would eat there for every lunch," she claimed.
In fact, Ella thinks UK supermarkets are "unreal." Later in her video, she explained: "The supermarkets here are literally amazing. I feel like every time I go to the big Tesco or big Sainsbury's, it's like a cultural experience for me.

"Like we have two main supermarkets in Australia, and they basically sell like 95% the same products. So it's not that exciting. When I come here, there's literally like so many things I've never seen before, and you can buy literally everything in some of those stores. It's unreal."
It's not just the supermarkets that surprised the social media user. "The next one is really random, but the lines in the sky after a plane has gone by, like big white lines," Ella added.
She also listed "the Jet2holidays ad." Ella said: "I've heard this song literally everywhere, and apparently this chick is now doing like festival appearances or something, which I think is crazy," perhaps not realising that singer-songwriter Jess Glynne was famous long before her song 'Hold My Hand' featured in the holiday ads.

"Sunbeds is another random thing that I didn't think really existed anymore," shared Ella, explaining that commercial sunbeds are banned in Australia.
Predictably, her video also included the weather. "I feel like I have to mention the weather. Obviously, everyone warns you moving to the UK that the weather is gonna be s**t all the time, like today it's raining. But it's been so hot here, and I feel like the heat here when it's really hot is literally like... it feels different to the heat in Australia when it's really hot."
Finally, Ella turned her attention to the UK's houses. "The last thing I can think of right now is conservatories, like the room," she revealed. "We don't have any equivalent to this in Australia, I don't think. Or at least, I've never heard of it."

This article contains affiliate links, which may earn us revenue Jet2holidays is now the UK's largest tour operator and has won awards for its excellent service at reasonable prices. It has beach holidays in two to five-star hotels in 65 destinations across the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and other corners of Europe, from ten UK airports, as well as city breaks. Try this: The Worldwide Explorer around-the-world package includes flights and five nights' accommodation (room only) on a route from London that includes Singapore, Sydney and San Francisco and starts at £1,379pp, based on two travelling. All of its trips are tailor-made and it was one of the best travel companies for refunds during the pandemic. It sells holidays worldwide, including a strong European programme ranging from Malta to Montenegro, and while it's premium, it's not all top end — there's now a broader range of resorts in the Maldives, for example. It's hot on sustainability, fair employment rights and animal welfare (elephant rides have been removed entirely from its tours), and a big plus for those who'd rather chat in depth about their trip face-to-face is that it has 30 stores across the UK. Try this: Kandolhu is a tiny idyll in the Maldives that's exclusive to Kuoni. M&S to make huge change by launching first-of-its-kind store perfect for holiday goers and it opens in just HOURS

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) M&S is making a huge change by opening a first-of-its-kind store that is perfect for Brits jetting off on their summer holidays. The home of Percy Pig will open its first ever airside store at Heathrow Airport on Monday, July 21. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 A mock image shows how the new M&S store will be laid out It means jet setters will be able to stock up on iconic M&S food after going through security. From tomorrow, holiday goers will be able to pick up sandwiches and sweets from its new branch at Gate A, located within Terminal 5 of the busy airport. Later this week a second store will open at Gate B, which will sell gifts such as its popular biscuit tins as well as prepackaged food. Alex Freudmann, managing director at M&S Food said: "This launch builds on the success of our well-established landside airport stores across the UK and allows us to serve customers even closer to their departure gates. "Whether travellers are looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or a British gift to take home, we're aiming to bring some M&S magic to their journey through Heathrow.' The high street stalwart already has seven branches across popular UK airports, including Luton and Manchester. But this is the first time flyers can get their hands on its products after passing through security and waiting to board the plane. It is not the first time in recent months that M&S has spruced up its store estate. Last Autumn it opened its first ever standalone clothes store in London's Battersea Power Station. The new store features a curated selection of women's and men's clothing, focusing on premium lines and beauty products. Shoppers race to M&S as one of their best selling items which is a mum-essential viral are scanning for just 63 PENCE Earlier this year, the brand also said it would open six Foodhalls across London and revamp nearly a dozen sites after committing £90million to the investment. It builds on the previous £30million investment made last year, and the extra £50million investment in stores across the Northwest of England. The brand-new Foodhalls will open their doors in Covent Garden, Leytonstone, Clapham Common, Putney, New Malden and Fulham Broadway. They will be completed "over the next few years, pending planning permisison", according to M&S. What else is new at M&S Elsewhere, M&S said it would dish out treats to millions of customers as a thank you following its cyber attack. Over 1.8 million customers will receive birthday gifts this month, and those who missed out in May and June will also be rewarded. Eager customers will be able to choose between one of two of M&S' bestselling food products. These could include Percy Pigs or a Swiss Truffle Assortment Box, a Bouquet of Flowers or bottle of Prosecco, a punnet of Grapes or a packet of Outrageously Chocolatey Round Biscuits. Sparks birthday treats were among the casualties of the cyber attack for those who had a birthday over the spring and early summer. It comes after M&S is picking up the pieces from a vicious cyber attack which occurred in April and cost the firm £300million in lost profits. For weeks the beloved retailer was unable to process online orders and store shelves were left bare. Last week, three teenagers and a woman were arrested in the UK as part of an investigation into attacks, which also targeted Co-op and Harrods. They have since been released on bail.

Two I'm A Celebrity legends 'set to return' for epic All Stars series

The I'm A Celebrity… South Africa all stars series is officially returning to ITV later in 2025—and not one but two legendary jungle stars are in talks to come back. Starting in 2024, I'm A Celebrity… South Africa reunites old campmates from the ITV game show. This time, however, they're trading the Australian jungle for the desert. Last series saw the likes of Shaun Ryder, Gillian McKeith, Helen Flanagan, Phil Tufnell, and Jordan Banjo giving up luxuries for a gruelling challenge once more. The competition was ultimately won by Myleene Klass, who had originally finished second during the show's sixth series almost 20 years ago… but now, two more famous faces are coming for her crown. According to reports, beloved King of the Jungle Harry Redknapp is close to signing on the dotted line with ITV bosses. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. As per The Sun, Harry, 78, who became the oldest-ever winner in 2018 and was paid £500,000 for his stint, will fly back out for round two in autumn before the series airs in the New Year. 'It's going to be a real coup,' a source told the paper. 'Harry is TV gold and was first on the list of wannabe celebrity contestants.' The football icon's win in the main series was watched by 11million people, with the nation reduced to tears as he was reunited with his wife, Sandra, on the bridge after, having frequently declared his love for her while in camp. Harry's first run for Jungle champ made him one of the programme's high earners, but the likes of Coleen Rooney and Nigel Farage still come out on top, having received a mega £1.5million for their signings. And Harry's people are remaining tight-lipped on his career plans currently, as a spokesperson for the sports star said in response to the rumours: 'This is speculation.' Meanwhile, there's another huge name already attached to the upcoming South Africa series… and it's Gemma Collins. The Towie star and TV personality, 44, is one of the most treasured personalities on British TV, and ITV is apparently hoping she'll boost viewing figures again this time around. Gemma infamously only managed three days in the Jungle when she was last on the show and made no secret of how much she hated every second. 'People who murder get treated better than this,' she famously said before quitting. 'That's the truth. Even a murderer gets fed three times a day.' Gemma's tears and tantrums gave social media a meme collection that still gets used today, so it's no surprise she's wanted back. A source told The Sun previously: 'She hated it first time round, but knows it would be TV gold for her fans if she gave it another go. 'The discussions could go either way, but signing her would be a huge win for execs.' For Gemma fans hoping she'll give I'm A Celebrity a second try, the recent rumours line up very nicely with comments the Dancing On Ice star made in 2019. Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, she said: 'I will never forget getting the call. Looking back, I don't feel I was ready for that show. I was new to TV; I was the underdog on Towie. 'I wasn't the best-looking girl, I didn't have a model figure, I was this car girl from Romford selling cars. I was being put in the Jungle, and in hindsight, I wasn't ready for it.' She continued: I felt hugely out of my depth—I was petrified. If I was to go back now, I've got more experience. I've got a tougher skin now, and I think that's where the GC came into play. If they asked me back, yes, I'd go back.' Things didn't get off to a good start when Gemma went into the jungle in 2014, firstly refusing to parachute into camp with the rest of her teammates. She then withdrew due to panic attacks and later said that her ex-boyfriend, Alexander Moss, had 'severely beaten' her the night before she joined. The reality star said that ITV advised against her entering at first, but Gemma insisted she didn't want to waste the opportunity of a lifetime. Alexander, now 44, was eventually jailed for 21 months in 2019. More Trending Gemma told the Everything I Know About Me podcast: '[There was] all the embarrassment of like, you know what the TV programmes were saying, 'Gemma Collins left the Jungle, she was hungry, she was this.' And it wasn't my fault. 'I can remember lying in my flat where I lived and just thinking, I just want to die. I haven't done anything wrong. I've left the Jungle because of something that happened to me.' ITV has been contacted for comment. I'm a Celebrity… South Africa will return to ITV1 and ITVX early next year. Got a story?
