Duke's Manny Diaz addresses new ACC availability reports in 2025

Duke's Manny Diaz addresses new ACC availability reports in 2025

USA Today2 days ago
College football is moving toward a model of increased transparency when it comes to injuries.
After the SEC instituted weekly availability reports last season during conference play, several other leagues have followed suit this offseason. Among them is the ACC, and commissioner Jim Phillips announced that the conference will begin publishing availability reports in football, basketball and baseball during the upcoming athletics season.
As the Duke Blue Devils begin fall camp, coach Manny Diaz said that he's fairly ambivalent about the prospect of sharing availability reports. He pointed out that the league did something similar previously, as it mandated private injury sharing between teams during his stint as the head coach at Miami, though the practice has since been discontinued.
'When I was at Miami, we had it and then it went away,' Diaz said on Monday, per On3. 'You know, I don't spend a whole lot of time thinking about that. We'll do what they tell us to do.'
The reports will mark a departure from Duke's previous injury policy under Diaz, however. In 2024, Diaz opted to avoid going into much detail about injuries beyond those that were season-ending.
Now, the Blue Devils will be required to submit availability reports two days before games with those reports being updated in the days that follow as leagues around the country look to, among other things, curb the influence of sports betting within facilities.

Notre Dame football to host Chicago 2027 4-star cornerback Tavares Harrington this fall

Notre Dame football has had great success recruiting its neighboring state of Illinois, and in the 2027 cycle they are trying to continue that trend. Tavares Harrington, a 6-foot, 3-inch and 175-pound cornerback announced on Wednesday what his plans will be for this fall, and will be in South Bend as the Irish take on Texas A&M on Sept. 13th according to Rivals. He's one of the nation's top players, as the 247Sports Composite has him as the No. 99 overall prospect in the 2027 class. Notre Dame is battling multiple others schools for Harrington such as Miami, Georgia, Michigan, Auburn, Alabama and few others. The visits this fall will go a long way in impressing the star corner, as you have to believe that the teams who he will be visiting are near the top of his list. Hopefully Harrington sees everything that Notre Dame can offer him, and the Irish win out in his recruitment. Steelers defender reveals season-ending injury on social media

The injury news in Pittsburgh keeps coming — and you can't help but feel for Steelers DT Dean Lowry, who took to social media to reveal his season-ending ACL injury. While Lowry was placed on the Reserve/Injured List a few days prior, it was his message on Instagram that caught fans' attention — one of understanding that there are risks required when playing football. "During a training camp practice last week I sustained an ACL injury that will likely end my season," Lowry wrote on Instagram. "Hard to comprehend the thoughts and emotions I have felt since then. Heartbroken I won't get to fully experience the highs and lows of an NFL season with a group I love going to work with. The risks associated with this game and the unique aspect of a football team are what make this sport like no other. I'm completely resolved to turn this negative into a positive with gratitude each step of the way." The nine-year veteran signed with the Steelers back in April 2024 on a two-year deal — providing Pittsburgh with capable, experienced depth on the defensive line. While Lowry tries to find the positives, we at Steelers Wire hope he can bounce back in a major way when recovered next season — potentially earning his way back onto the Steel City roster.
