Boy who stabbed Harvey Willgoose at Sheffield school takes stand in murder trial
The teenager, who cannot be named, was giving evidence at Sheffield Crown Court, where he is on trial for the murder of Harvey Willgoose, who was also 15.
Harvey, who was also 15, died after being stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School on 3 February.
Taking the stand on Wednesday, the defendant told the jury he was subjected to racist bullying on social media and taunts about a medical condition while he was at a number of Sheffield schools.
He said the bullying has affected how he controls his temper and 'I'm upset all the time'.
Asked by his barrister Gul Nawaz Hussain KC how this affected his temper, the boy said: 'I can get angry quickly, upset quickly. I can't control it.'
Mr Hussain also asked his client about social media.
The boy said he had been bullied online by 'strangers' and by pupils at All Saints, including 'racist bullying'.
The barrister asked him: 'When bullying was happening on social media, did you feel you could get away from it?'
The boy said no.
When Mr Hussain asked him about the worst threat he had received on social media, the defendant replied: 'Someone said, 'I'll stab you up'.'
He said he began to believe the threats and, when his barrister asked 'how did that make you feel?', the boy said: 'Scared.'
The defendant stood in the witness box facing the jury of eight women and four men, holding a fidget toy and supported by an intermediary.
The jury has been shown CCTV footage of Harvey being stabbed in the courtyard at All Saints during the lunch break on February 3.
The court has heard that the defendant, who cannot be named, has admitted manslaughter but denies murder.
He has also admitted possession of a knife on school premises.
Addressing the jury last week, Mr Hussain said: '(The defendant) did not set out to kill or seriously hurt anyone.
'The defence say (the defendant's) actions that day were the end result of a long period of bullying, poor treatment and violence, things that built one upon another until he lost control and did tragically what we've all seen.'

Newtown's Stafford Jones hit woman in Aberystwyth bar
A Newtown man has been jailed for almost two years for a forearm or elbow smash on a woman in a nightclub that left her out cold and needing stitches. Stafford Jones, of Lon Maesycoed, Newtown, appeared before Swansea Crown Court on Friday (July 18). The 30-year-old had previously admitted one count of unlawful wounding which occurred in Aberystwyth on July 14, 2023. David Singh, prosecuting, said the incident, which was captured on CCTV, happened at Bar 46 just after midnight. The footage showed Emily Renshaw, the victim, gesticulating with the defendant. She was then seen to push Jones - who reacted by hitting her with what the court heard was "either an elbow or forearm". The complainant immediately fell to the floor and lost consciousness. She suffered a laceration to her lip which required stiches, and bruising to her eye and facial area. The defendant was arrested in Liverpool on August 13, 2023. In police interview, Jones claimed that the victim had approached her in a bar "shouting abuse". He said he'd never seen her before, but that she was "aggressive and irate". The defendant said that he had then left with a friend and gone to Bar 46 in Bridge Street - but said that the victim followed him between bars and approached him again, threatening to "get my cousin on you". He claimed that she pushed him, and that he reacted as shown in the CCTV footage. "I understand my actions were excessive, and I am remorseful for them," he said. The defendant has 14 previous convictions for 18 offences, the court was told - including previous offences of violent disorder and battery. Defending, Alycia Carpanini, said Jones had expressed remorse and regret over the incident, admitting that he had been an "idiot". She added that he was determined to be a "better role model" for his two children. Judge Huw Rees sentenced Jones to 22 months imprisonment.

Cops release CCTV of suspect nearly a year after schoolboy, 15, was gunned down at ‘Teletubbies Park' during family day
POLICE have released new CCTV footage almost one year on from the fatal shooting of a schoolboy in a playground, known locally as "Teletubbies Park". Rene Graham, 15, died after being shot in Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park in Ladbroke Grove, west London, at around 7.20pm on July 21, 2024, during a "family fun day". 4 Cops launched a murder investigation soon afterwards and have now released CCTV footage showing a suspect walking calmly towards the busy park before the shooting. He can be seen entering the children's play area before shooting Rene in the chest. The teenager tragically died at the scene. CCTV footage also shows the suspect chasing and attempting to shoot a second victim after gunning down Rene. He then flees the area. Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the investigation said: "Rene was tragically shot dead during a busy music festival. Since the launch of the investigation, officers have reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV and taken numerous statements from witnesses. "Rene's family have continued to be supported throughout these enquiries, and they remain understandably devastated about his death. "Recently, a man in his 20s was interviewed under caution in relation to Rene's murder and we continue to investigate all lines of enquiry." Footage shows the suspect walking towards the park, appearing to pull a gun from his pocket and then running from the area shortly after the shooting. DCI Foxwell added: 'The person responsible for Rene's murder opened fire in a busy park where dozens of people, including very young children, were enjoying themselves. 'Officers have appealed to the local community on multiple occasions – we believe there are people sitting on the name of the person responsible. Man sentenced for dropping vermin outside religious venue
Edmund Fowler, 66, was captured on CCTV releasing rats outside Sheffield Grand Mosque on Grimesthorpe Road. This incident was part of a series of racially motivated hate crimes, which Fowler repeated on three other occasions between May and June. Fowler, of Skelwith Drive, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to four counts of racially aggravated harassment at Sheffield Magistrates' Court. On 16 July, he was handed an 18-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months. As part of his sentence, Fowler was also prohibited from going near any mosque for 18 months.
