NationGate saya MACC probe limited to non-major subsidiary

KUALA LUMPUR: NationGate Holdings Bhd clarified that the investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is limited to its subsidiary NationGate Solution (M) Sdn Bhd.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing today, the electronics manufacturing services company said that an order to inspect, search and seize under Section 31(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 from MACC was issued to NationGate Solution.
"To our best knowledge, the raid does not involve any specific board members or senior management.
"NationGate Solution is not a major subsidiary pursuant to the definition given in the Main Market Listing Requirements of Bursa Securities," it said.
It added that for the time being, the MACC raid is not expected to have significant financial and operational impact on the group.
Previously, it is reported that MACC has raided the premises of NationGate Holdings' wholly owned subsidiary NationGate Solution as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of scrap metal smuggling.
MACC had launched a major crackdown on scrap metal smuggling syndicates across five states, targeting groups suspected of bribing enforcement officers and causing over RM950 million in tax losses.

MACC probes two more firms in data centre graft scandal

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has uncovered two additional companies suspected of securing data centre construction projects through bribery. The case involves a detained project manager from a prominent construction firm who allegedly demanded kickbacks in exchange for tender advantages. A source revealed that several company directors have been identified and will be called in for questioning. 'The main suspect admitted to requesting around three per cent of the project value from companies seeking contracts,' the source said. The bribes were facilitated by leaking tender details and ensuring priority for paying firms. Payments were made in stages, aligned with project milestones. 'Several million ringgit remain unpaid as per the agreement,' the source added. Earlier reports disclosed that the project manager attempted to destroy nearly RM1 million in cash during an MACC raid under Op Ways. Officers discovered burning RM100 notes at his Petaling Jaya residence, alongside RM7.5 million in cash hidden in pillow boxes, luxury watches, and jewellery. On Friday, MACC arrested a contract manager, his wife, and two others in the Klang Valley over a Johor-based data centre project worth RM180 million. - Bernama

UMNO man is furious Jho Low is still at large

UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi criticised Malaysian authorities for their delay in tracking and extraditing Jho Low, following reports that he is living luxuriously in Shanghai using a fake Australian passport with a Greek name. Puad said it is the responsibility of the police and of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Comission (MACC) to bring Jho Low back to face justice. He also criticised former IGP Abdul Hamid Bador for failing to fulfil his promise to bring Jho Low back by end-2019 and mocked his remarks about Jho Low's changed appearance. 'If it is true that he is in Shanghai, then it is the heavy responsibility of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the MACC to bring Jho Low back to face justice,' he said in a statement on Saturday. Abdul Hamid Bador Puad said, 'He even promised that Jho Low would be brought back before the end of December 2019. However, it was all just empty talk ('sembang kari') that ultimately embarrassed the country.' Additionally, Puad suggested that Najib's trial is unfair without key witnesses like Jho Low present. 'If that is the case, the charges should be dropped,' he added. Meanwhile, Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat has urged Putrajaya to offer a RM10 million reward for credible information leading to the capture of fugitive financier Jho Low. He argued that Jho Low's return is crucial for justice in the 1MDB case, similar to former prime minister Najib Razak being tried. Chua said the reward is a small amount compared to the RM29 billion already recovered from 1MDB assets and would show Malaysia's commitment to fighting corruption. After nearly four years, Jho Low, the mastermind of the 1MDB scandal, has reportedly been located in Shanghai's exclusive Green Hills area, living under a fake Australian passport and driving luxury cars, according to journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright. —July 20, 2025 Main image: Malay Mail

Data centre graft: MACC identifies two more companies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified two more companies suspected of obtaining data centre construction projects by bribing the project manager of a prominent construction company who was recently arrested. According to a source, several company directors had also been identified and would be called to assist in the investigation into the case. "The investigation also found that the main suspect, the project manager, admitted to having asked for about 3% of the project value from any company that wanted to obtain a project from a prominent construction company," he said here Sunday (July 20). The source reported that the bribe was facilitated by leaking the tender price and helping to ensure that the company that paid the bribe was given priority in winning the tender. "This bribe was paid in stages according to the progress of the project payment, and it is understood that there are several million more that have yet to be paid by the company to the suspect as per their agreement," he said. The media previously reported that a project manager of a prominent construction company who was detained for investigation into a corruption case involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender was willing to burn almost RM1mil in cash to destroy evidence after being surprised by the MACC raid through Ops Ways on Thursday (July 17). According to sources, during the raid conducted at his home in Petaling Jaya, a team of officers found RM100 banknotes totalling almost RM1mil in flames. As a result of a thorough inspection of the home, the MACC also found cash totalling approximately RM7.5mil stored in several pillow boxes, three Rolex, Omega and Cartier watches, as well as jewellery such as rings and gold coins. On Friday, the media reported that a contract manager, his wife, and two men in their 40s to 60s were arrested by the MACC Investigation Division around the Klang Valley, believed to be involved in corruption related to the procurement of a data centre construction project tender in Johor worth approximately RM180mil. – Bernama
