Hong Kong resident Judd Trump to headline local snooker tournament in June

The local resident will be joined by fellow British player Jack Lisowski, Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-nooh, Chinese pair Zhang Anda, the world No 12, and rising star Chen Qien.
Also playing will be Hong Kong's two-time Asian Games gold medallist Ivan Chan Kwok-ming, who claimed the men's team title alongside Marco Fu and Chan Wai-tat in Bangkok in 1998, and Fu and Fung Kwok-wai in Busan four years later.
The Greater Bay Area Snooker Culture Challenge – Ming Snooker Cup, which runs at Queen Elizabeth Stadium from June 10 to 11, will mark the first snooker tournament in the city since the World Grand Prix at Kai Tak Arena in March.
It will also be the first exhibition tournament in Hong Kong since the ill-fated Hong Kong Snooker All-Star Challenge in March 2024, which was blighted by
spectators complaining about obstructed views despite paying for expensive tickets.

The city's snooker chief, Vincent Law Wing-chung, welcomed the tournament, and while the local governing body was not directly involved in organising it, said he expected others would follow suit.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the club learned they had been drawn in a group with Iraqi club Al-Zawraa, Istiklol from Tajikistan and Indian sides FC Goa for their AFC Champions League 2 campaign.

Kai Tak's new climbing wall can bring global scene to Hong Kong, ex-pro says
Just Climb founder Danny Ho Sin-fai said on Friday he hoped the opening of a new facility at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Sports Park could attract the sport's biggest events to the city. Climbing was first included as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Games in 2021, when there was just one event that combined the three disciplines: lead, which sees the climber ascend while clipping the rope into protection; bouldering – without a rope or harness – and speed, where the athlete attempts to reach the top as quickly as possible. In Paris last year, speed climbing ran as a separate event, with lead and bouldering combined, but in Los Angeles 2028, all three disciplines will have individual medal potential. And Ho, a former member of the Hong Kong national climbing team, said this was the perfect incentive for young people in the city to take up the sport. 'The Olympics has encouraged the sport to grow,' Ho told the Post. 'Younger athletes now see climbing as a way to glory at the Olympics. Jockey Club enters long-term Xinjiang partnership in another positive mainland move
The Hong Kong Jockey Club has begun a long-term partnership with the Sports Bureau of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in Urumqi with the goal of modernising the region's equine industry. The partnership was announced on Tuesday, with the aim of leveraging the resources of both the Jockey Club and the Bureau to promote the upgrading of Xinjiang's equine industry. Jockey Club chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges visited the site alongside Executive Director Andrew Harding and members of the Club's expert team, meeting representatives of the government, university, industry and sports organisations. Xinjiang holds the largest horse population in China and is home to one of its most celebrated horse breeds, the Yili horse – a small breed native to Xinjiang. The region has a rich history of horse sports and is implementing strategic objectives set out in the National Equine Industry Development Plan and the Xinjiang Modern Equine Industry Development Plan to aid horse breeding, training, racing and horse culture tourism. The Jockey Club will support Xinjiang in celebrating its horse racing festivals, cultivating equine talent with an international perspective and improving veterinary and horse standards – among other objectives. Engelbrecht-Bresges said that the Jockey Club is committed to national development and will leverage the advantages of the 'one country, two systems' framework – along with the Club's extensive experience and global connections – to help promote China's horse culture internationally. He was also keen to highlight Conghua racecourse in Guangzhou, which will be instrumental in supporting the development of equine industry talent, clinical veterinary care, health standards, racing tourism and other cultural activities in Xinjiang. Engelbrecht-Bresges added that the Club is confident that Yili horses have the potential to become a global symbol of China's equine culture, while highlighting the Club's commitment to supporting the development of a robust equine industry value chain in Xinjiang and the nation through sports, cultural and tourism initiatives. Conghua opened in August 2018 and has become integral to Hong Kong racing and is currently used as a training centre for a large portion of the racing population. Racing is scheduled to begin at the venue in October 2026 in conjunction with Sha Tin and Happy Valley racecourses. An exhibition meeting at the course was held in March 2019. The Jockey Club began supporting the China Horse Industry Association in developing high-quality domestic horses last year, running 45 Yili horse assessment races held in Xinjiang.
