Interim bail plea of teen driver's father rejected in Porsche crash case

Pune: The court of special judge KP Kshirsagar on Wednesday rejected the interim bail plea filed by the father of the teenager driving the Porsche Taycan car involved in an accident killing two techies last year.
The teen's father is a builder. He had pleaded before the court for interim bail lasting 21 days under provisions of section 483 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. He wanted the time out for his mother's surgery.
Special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray opposed the bail plea on the grounds that the builder's mother was suffering from age-related medical ailments and there was no imminent threat to her life. Hiray submitted that the applicant/accused had deliberately created medical records to seek interim bail.

In his order, Kshirsagar observed that the builder had other family members to care for his mother and take decisions regarding the surgery, even though her condition was not critical. He rejected the builder's plea because no justifiable ground was cited for seeking the interim bail.
Two youths who worked as software engineers were killed when the car driven by the teenager son of the builder rammed their bike from behind at Kalyaninagar junction around 2.30am on May 19, 2024.

Geo-tagging of criminals launched in Nagpur to enhance surveillance
Nagpur: In a giant leap towards digital surveillance of criminals in the city, at least 1,500 gangsters and their residences have been geo-tagged — complete with latitude and longitude coordinates and timestamping — for closer scrutiny of their movements. The initiative leverages the innovative smart e-beat system app, enabling beat marshals to record live presence of goons along with precise time stamps, ensuring a more effective monitoring. Soon, data in the smart e-beat system will also integrate with cops' smart criminal tracking system through Simba App and CCTV camera network. It was launched by Zonal DCP Mahak Swami in central Nagpur along with DCP Niketan Kadam in the northern part of the city. The system is now being implemented in north Nagpur's zone V, comprising Jaripatka, Yashodharanagar, Kalamna, Pardi, New and Old Kamptee, where cops have begun implementing the surveillance method with a strategic plan and long-term vision. The ambitious programme aims to geo-tag over 5,000 criminals, who will be monitored daily by 1,903 beat marshals deployed across the city, said Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, adding CP Ravinder Singal's vision revolves around integrating technology in policing. "Geotagging will integrate data of 5,000 bad characters, essentially history-sheeters, into this framework," Reddy stated. This system is designed to keep a close watch on movements and activities of known offenders, compelling them to live under constant police scrutiny. By maintaining a digital record of their locations, police intend to deter criminal behaviour through heightened surveillance and accountability. DCP Kadam, who is overseeing the initiative, explained that the geo-tagging process prioritises criminals with two or more offences. "We are systematically incorporating data of the individuals with crime records into the system, with regular updates to include more offenders," Kadam said. He added that officers of assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and DCP ranks can actively review the system to ensure its effectiveness and accuracy.

Abandoned and abused: 15-year-old bonded labourer survives horrific ordeal in Haryana
Jind: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Haryana's Jind district, where a 15-year-old boy was allegedly held as a bonded labourer and subjected to brutal abuse by his employer for two consecutive months. The child was cutting fodder for cattle when his hand got caught in the sickle. Following this horrific accident, the owner abandoned the child in a dark, remote area 25-30 km from Jind city and fled. Somehow, the injured child reached Nuh, where a teacher saw him and rushed him to a local health centre and informed the police. On learning about the incident, officials from the Child Protection Commission reached the hospital to inquire about his condition. The child, a native of Bihar's Kishanganj region, had left his village about two months ago with a group to work in the paddy fields of Kithana village in Haryana's Kaithal district. During the journey, he got off the train at Bahadurgarh station, and while he was roaming around, the train left. A man approached him at the station and offered him a job for Rs 10,000 a month. Eventually, he reached a place in Nuh where a teacher, seeing his dire condition, informed the police. The police asked his whereabouts. Lokayukta registers case against retired doctor, 2 others
Ujjain: Lokayukta police on Wednesday registered a case against a retired doctor and two others for allegedly causing financial loss by failing to release tenders for asset acquisition at govt-run Charak Bhavan Hospital. A case was registered under Prevention of Corruption Act against former civil surgeon Dr Prayag Narayan Verma, accountant Rajkumar Soni (retired), and former in-charge clerk Rahul Pandya (originally a dresser), said Lokayukta DSP Rajesh Pathak. "Further investigation will reveal the amount of financial damage. Initially, it appears that about half a dozen firms have been benefited," he said. A resident of Gram Najarpur, in Ghattia tehsil of Ujjain, Dharmendra Sharma, had lodged a complaint with Lokayukta SP Anand Yadav, stating that irregular purchase of goods and services for the successful operation of govt Charak Bhavan Hospital had led to financial losses for the govt. The complaint was investigated by DSP Rajesh Pathak of Ujjain unit. Pathak said that the investigation revealed that the firms given work orders for two years continued to work for about two to three years after the contract dates were over, without releasing new tenders.
