Muhyiddin allowed temporary release of passport to visit sick sister-in-law in Australia
Judge Azura Alwi granted the former prime minister's application following a request from his lawyer Kee Wei Lon and there was no objection by Deputy Public Prosecutor Noralis Mat.
'The passport will be handed over to the applicant today and must be returned to the court on May 20,' said Azura.
The court had granted Muhyiddin's application for temporary release of his passport several times, including to attend his grandchild's graduation ceremony and consultation regarding his pancreatic cancer in London, United Kingdom, a medical check-up in Singapore, and the opening of a friend's restaurant in Thailand.
Muhyiddin, 77, in his capacity as then-prime minister and Bersatu president, is accused of abusing his position to solicit RM232.5 million in bribes related to the Jana Wibawa Project from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, and Mamfor Sdn Bhd, as well as Datuk Azman Yusoff, for the benefit of his political party.
The four abuse of power offences were allegedly committed at the Prime Minister's Office in the Perdana Putra Building, Federal Government Administrative Centre, Putrajaya, between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021.
He is also faced with two counts of receiving proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to M195 million from Bukhary Equity that was deposited into Bersatu's CIMB Bank account at the Menara KL branch, Jalan Stesen Sentral, between Feb 25 and July 16, 2021, and Feb 8 and July 8, 2022.
Muhyiddin was also charged in the Sessions Court in Shah Alam on March 13, 2023, with receiving money from illegal activities amounting to RM5 million. The has been transferred to the Sessions Court here to be tried together.

KUALA LUMPUR: The smuggling syndicate crippled by graft-busters yesterday, involving five armed forces officers, was believed to be moving contraband and drugs through the Strait of Malacca. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, in confirming this today, said: "Based on our investigations, the smuggling ring was believed to be moving their product through the Strait of Malacca, mostly off the Johor coasts." He was speaking to reporters after launching the 2025 Chief Commissioner Roundtable Conference at the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers here today. Azam said those responsible for national security were instead allegedly facilitating smuggling activities. "They are supposed to safeguard the country's security, protect information and share that information with enforcement agencies. "Such leaks have allowed smuggling activities to continue rampantly, particularly in the waters from the Strait of Malacca to Johor," he said Yesterday, the MACC dismantled a drug and contraband smuggling syndicate involving senior armed forces officers in the southern region. The operation, codenamed Op Sohor, resulted in the arrest of five senior military officers and five civilians. According to sources, the suspects, aged between 30 and 55 and including an Indonesian national, were arrested around the Klang Valley. The operation was carried out by the MACC Intelligence Division with assistance from the Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad. Sources had added that the syndicate is believed to have been capable of moving goods worth RM5 million each month. Anwar denies telling MCMC to investigate Muhyiddin over RON95 subsidy row, but won't apologise pending probe
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today clarified that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was not instructed to investigate Pagoh Member of Parliament Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over the recent RON95 targeted subsidy issue. Instead, the Prime Minister said MCMC was asked to verify the authenticity of the sources that were referred to in relation to the matter. 'I asked MCMC for clarification. Some misunderstood and claimed that MCMC is being asked to investigate Pagoh. No. Let me clarify. I said that the information came from one, two, or three sources. I told them (MCMC), please investigate these sources. 'If the sources are found to be unreliable, then the statement (based on them) is not valid. But let's wait for MCMC's findings first,' he said during Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today. Anwar said this in reply to a supplementary question by Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) on whether or not he would apologise to Muhyiddin pertaining to the issue. In the Dewan Rakyat last week, Muhyiddin, who is also the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, demanded an apology from Anwar for accusing him of defending foreigners over the RON95 targeted subsidy initiative. Addressing the matter further, Anwar said he would not hesitate to offer his apology to Muhyiddin, but only after MCMC completes its verification process regarding the sources of the information. 'I have no issue with apologising. But we're still waiting for confirmation. One source has already been found to be inaccurate. If the remaining two are also found to be false, I have no problem apologising. 'If MCMC confirms it, I will clarify and apologise to Pagoh MP, but let's wait for it first,' he said. Meanwhile, on the issue of legal immunity, Anwar explained that his application to refer eight legal questions to the Federal Court was regarding the interpretation of whether an action against the Prime Minister could be considered frivolous, vexatious or an abuse of process. 'Immunity means that it cannot be disputed. The application is for the court to decide in cases whether it is possible for anyone to attack the Prime Minister in a frivolous and vexatious manner that interferes with our field of work. 'That is what the application is all about, and it is up to the court. The court makes the decision, not the Prime Minister,' he said in reply to Chaa Kee Chin (PH-Rasah), who asked him to clarify the allegation that he was applying for legal immunity from civil and criminal cases in court. — Bernama
