'When We Played On Gravel Pitches Back Home I'd Imagine...': Cunha Opens Up On Dream Man United Move

The Brazilian has been handed the honour of donning the iconic No. 10 jersey said that he idolised United legend Rooney growing up.
New Manchester United recruit Matheus Cunha reminisced over the times he used to dream of pulling on the famous red kit of the Premier League heavyweights following his switch to the Mancunian club from Wolverhampton.
'It is hard to find words to describe this moment. It is a dream come true," the Brazilian said in an exclusive to JioHotstar.
'Sometimes, it is difficult to believe I am really here. This club has always meant something special to me," the 26-year-old said.
'There is a funny story — back home in Brazil, we could only watch the Premier League at my grandma's house because neither, my house nor my cousins had the channel. So, every weekend, we would plan to watch matches at her place," he recollected.
'My cousin, who is older than me, supported Manchester United. He was the one who introduced me to the Premier League — and to United."
'Even when we played on the gravel pitches back home, which is very common in Brazil, I would imagine playing for United. To be here now, and to think back to those moments — it is incredibly emotional," the forward revealed.
'Rooney was the one I looked up to. I have tried to bring elements of his game into mine — the way he gave everything, went to ground to win the ball, and still had the skill and impact up front."
The Brazilian has been handed the honour of donning the iconic United No. 10 jersey.
'He wore the number 10 shirt and led by example," the former RB Lepizig and Atletico Madrid player added.
'Of course, there were others — Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Van der Sar. That entire team left a big mark on me during my teenage years," Cunha concluded.

Sulakshan Kulkarni Named Deputy Head Coach Of Oman Men's Cricket Team

Last Updated: Kulkarni's tenure with the team will officially begin with the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, which Oman will host from October 8 to 18. Former Mumbai wicketkeeper Sulakshan Kulkarni has been appointed as the deputy head coach of the Oman men's national cricket team. Kulkarni's role will be crucial as the team aims to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka in February and March of the following year. Oman Cricket confirmed the appointment via social media post on Sunday. Taking to X, the cricket association wrote, 'We're pleased to welcome Sulakshan Kulkarni as the Deputy Head Coach of the Oman Men's National Team! A seasoned coach with a wealth of domestic and international experience, Kulkarni brings depth and able leadership to our coaching setup as we prepare for the upcoming journey on the global stage." His tenure with the team will officially begin with the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, which Oman will host from October 8 to 18. Duleep Mendis, a former wicketkeeper-batter for Sri Lanka, will continue to serve as the head coach of the Oman national cricket team. Kulkarni, who played 65 First-Class matches and 13 List A games, brings extensive experience to his new position. He has previously worked as the head coach for several domestic teams, including Maharashtra, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Notably, he led Mumbai to a Ranji Trophy victory in the 2012-13 season and was the head coach for the Maharashtra Ranji team last season. Oman has already secured qualification for the Asia Cup in September, although the final status of the tournament remains uncertain and depends on an upcoming Asian Cricket Council meeting. This appointment marks the second time that Oman Cricket has added an Indian, and specifically a Mumbaikar, to its support staff, following Omkar Salvi's tenure as the team's bowling coach a few years ago. The 58-year-old Kulkarni is expected to bring both experienced leadership and strategic contributions to Oman's cricket ambitions.
