NFL.com 2025 draft mock has welcomed surprise for Jets in Round 1
The New York Jets could go many different ways with their top selection at the 2025 NFL draft.
The Jets hold the No. 7 overall selection and if the draft were to fall the way this NFL.com mock from Maurice Jones-Drew predicts.... there is only one pick.

Colorado's Travis Hunter.
Most believe the versatile cornerback and wide receiver will be gone by the second-overall selection. Instead, "MJD" has him falling all the way to the seventh pick. New York does not even need to trade up for Hunter.
It's rare such an athlete comes out of college football, but if Hunter is there, the Jets will run right to the podium with their card.
Jones-Drew's full breakdown on Hunter to the Jets can be found below:
I'm guessing the Jets would be thrilled -- and very surprised -- to see the Heisman Trophy winner available here. Hunter is a generational talent with the ability to play on both sides of the ball for a team that has plenty of room for improvement at both cornerback and receiver.

Despite practicing at CB and WR, Bo Melton won't compare himself to Travis Hunter
The Packers have wide receiver Bo Melton taking snaps at cornerback, but Melton makes it clear he is not switching to defense. He instead will try to play both positions. 'It's just something that came up,' Melton said Wednesday, via Matt Schneidman of 'I want to give it a shot. I'm still a wide receiver, so I'm not really transitioning to no cornerback, but if it works, it works.' The Packers are deep at wide receiver after using a first-round pick on Matthew Golden and a third-rounder on Savion Williams. They cut cornerback Jaire Alexander this week, leaving them thin behind Keisean Nixon, Nate Hobbs and Carrington Valentine. Melton played cornerback in high school and sparingly at the start of his college career at Rutgers. He plays a similar position to corner on the punt return unit, so he has experience tackling in the open field. Melton's time on the other side of the line confused both Packers quarterback Jordan Love and Melton's brother, Max, a cornerback with the Cardinals. Max saw the news on social media and called Bo, asking, 'What the hell are you doing?' The experiment might or might not work, but Melton is willing to try. 'There are very few guys who have done it in our league,' General Manager Brian Gutekunst said. 'There have been a few and when a guy's able to do that, it certainly helps your football team. Bo is everything we want in a football player out there as far as his ability as a receiver, certainly on [special] teams. If he's able to add to his arsenal, that makes him really, really valuable to us.' Melton, though, makes it clear he's no Travis Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick who will play both sides of the ball with the Jaguars as he did at Colorado. 'Travis is a different athlete, as everybody knows,' Melton said. 'He's a Heisman Trophy winner, won a lot of awards. I'm not going to compare myself to somebody that's done that, but what I will say is I like to run for days.'

Breece Hall taking simple mentality in his make-or-break Jets season
Breece Hall said he went 'back to the basics' this offseason after a disappointing 2024 season both for himself and the Jets. Hall returns for his fourth season to a much different team. Gone are the general manager and head coach who drafted him — with Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh now in Philadelphia and San Francisco, respectively. In their places are Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn, and a whole new set of evaluators Hall needs to impress. 'I'm around new GM, new coaches, a lot of new coaches. For me, I've got to go prove I am the guy. That's every day,' Hall said Wednesday during the Jets minicamp. 'I feel like my skill set [is] that I'm a three-down back that's second to none. … We have a great running back room with a lot of healthy competition, but my mentality is every day I want to prove that I'm the best back on this roster, one of the best backs in the league.' This is a big season for Hall, who has been steady but has not quite ever realized the potential he showed as a rookie before he tore his ACL. His rushing yards dropped last year (from 998 in 2023 to 876 in 2024), and he scored five rushing touchdowns for the second straight season. Hall is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The running back market got a boost last year thanks to Saquon Barkley, but it is still a position that many teams do not want to reward with big contracts. Jets running back Breece Hall (20) practices at minicamp in Florham Park, NJ. Bill Kostroun/New York Post Glenn has also spoken about the team taking a committee approach at running back, with second-year players Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis having big roles. That could take away from what Hall can do. Despite having to potentially share the load, Hall still should have a major role in this offense. Last season, he somehow did not have one game with 20 carries. That seems unlikely to happen this year with new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand coming with Glenn from the Lions, a team that was sixth in rushing yards in the NFL last season. 'He's got a very good skill set,' Engstrand said of Hall. 'But he's a worker, like I said the last time we were in here, he's just a worker. He's going to go to work, he works on his craft, he's detailed, and he is an all-around player. He's not, I would say, not pigeonholed into one type of back. He's not an inside runner, not an outside runner, he kind of can do a lot of all of it. And then again, the pass game is huge for us, too.' Hall's name came up in trade rumors around the draft. The Jets pushed back against those rumors, saying they never even took a call about Hall. Still, his name was floating around the Internet and on social media, and Hall saw it. Jets running back Breece Hall speaks to the media at minicamp in Florham Park, NJ. Bill Kostroun/New York Post 'I was seeing it just like everybody else was seeing it,' Hall said. 'If people feel like you're not doing your job, you're going to be replaced. It didn't happen. I'm here. A.G. called me and told me he wanted me to be here. For me, that meant a lot.' Hall said he felt like he received a lot of the blame for last year's 5-12 season. 'It's always frustrating as a team and as an individual when you're not winning games and playing as well as you expect,' Hall said. 'After the season, there's always somebody to blame or someone the blame gets put on. A lot of it just so happened to be on me. It was like, 'OK, just get back to the drawing board, get back to working hard.' I know what I can do. I know the potential I have, but potential only goes so far.'

Bryce Huff thankful he landed with 49ers
Edge rusher Bryce Huff is happy to be back with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Huff had 10 sacks playing for Saleh in 2023 when Saleh was the head coach of the Jets and turned that into a three-year deal with the Eagles as a free agent. Huff was not able to replicate that success in Vic Fangio's defense and he dealt with an injury before being inactive for the team's Super Bowl win. After a mutual agreement to have Huff stay away from the offseason program as both sides looked for a trade, the Eagles dealt Huff to the 49ers last month. On Wednesday, Huff said he had his eyes on a reunion throughout the process. 'I had a few places in mind that I definitely wanted to get traded to,' Huff said, via 95.7 The Game. 'All I was doing is just working out, staying in my routine. Thankfully, it was to San Francisco.' Saleh said, via that Huff brings 'speed off the edge' to the defense and that opposing coaches have to 'account for his presence on the field' while discussing why the team made the move for Huff. Those traits served Huff and Saleh well in their first run together and the coming months will show if the second time will be the charm as well.
