Telangana CM launches two programmes to support existing women-led enterprises, cultivate innovation among youth

The Hindu17-05-2025

To accelerate the growth of some 140 existing women-led MSMEs across Telangana, a Women Acceleration Program, supported by the Ministry of MSME and the World Bank, was launched by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad on Saturday (May 17, 2025).
The Chief Minister reiterated the government's aim to empower one crore women to become millionaires. He spoke about how women from self help groups (SHG) pay back the loans with interest without a miss.
A flagship initiative under the national RAMP scheme, the Women Acceleration Programme aims to strengthen the capabilities of women entrepreneurs to scale sustainably and enhance their competitiveness — enabling women to achieve economic autonomy, leadership in business, and long-term entrepreneurial success. This would be achieved through targeted capacity building, tailored mentorship, financial enablement, expanded market access and other methods, CEO of WE Hub Sita Pallacholla said.
Besides, WE Hub's Grassroot Youth Innovation Program (GYIP) — designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among rural youth in the State — was launched by the Chief Minister. The program focuses on equipping young individuals with job readiness skills, mentorship, and hands-on experience, enabling them to become changemakers in their communities, WE HUB said in a release. The program will outreach over 6000 students, 4000 students to be sensitized, 1500 to be onboarded onto iLEAP, and 500 to be onboarded to Campuspreneur program.
The iLEAP programs support students in the age of 17-23 years to explore new technology trends and experience advancement in their careers by mastering critical thinking, innovation, and leveraging advanced tools. While this focus on students in rural areas, WE Enable is being implemented for urban students to meet the objective, Ms. Sita explained.

Telangana to intensify pitch for resolution of pending reorganisation issues with Andhra Pradesh

Telangana government has decided to intensify its pitch for resolution of the pending reorganisation issues with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is said to have asked the officials concerned to press for convening the meeting of the officials committee — constituted to expeditiously resolve the issues between the two Telugu States. Accordingly, it was decided to address a communication to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh asking them to fix a date and time for the meeting. The last meeting of the officials committee was held in Mangalagiri on December 2 last year and discussed among other things, reimbursement of salaries paid by Andhra Pradesh power utilities to Andhra Pradesh native employees working in Telangana; apportionment of debt of 15 externally aided projects; division of labour cess and reimbursement of expenditure incurred by the Telangana government on the common institutions. Central Government grants relating to centrally sponsored schemes credited to Andhra Pradesh accounts, Telangana's share in excess input tax credit to be availed by dealers and the share of Telangana in tax on liquor collected in May 2014 were discussed during the meeting. However, there was no meeting of the officials committee more than six months after the first meeting in December last year. Keeping this in view, Mr. Reddy reportedly directed the officials concerned to expedite the resolution of the issues at the official level. In the event of certain issues remaining unresolved, they would be escalated to the Ministers' committee comprising Ministers from the two States as its members. The officials' committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, was constituted last year with the then Finance Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and Chief Minister's Office (CMO) principal secretary V. Seshadri as members on behalf of Telangana. Though Mr. Rao has been elevated as Chief Secretary subsequently, he continues to supervise the State Reorganisation affairs. Meanwhile, a delegation of the Finance department senior officials is camping in New Delhi to mount pressure on the Centre to ensure release of funds pending to Telangana. These include dues pertaining to backward regions grants fund amounting to around Rs. 1,800 crore, expenditure incurred by the State on common institutions and others that had received the consent of the Union Home Ministry.

India's first national paper expo debuts in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: PAPEXPO 2025, India's first national-level exhibition exclusively dedicated to the paper industry, was inaugurated today at HITEX Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad. The three-day event, organised by the Paper Foundation and supported by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, brings together stakeholders across the paper value chain to promote innovation, sustainability, and industry growth. The event was inaugurated by industry stalwarts including Narendra Paruchuri, Managing Director, Pragathi Offset Printers; Soumyajit Mukherjee, CMO, Emami Paper Mills; Dr Ajay Satia, MD, Satia Industries; Rushabh Shah, MD, Three M Paper Boards; and Abiali Jani, Director, Jaini Sales. Distinguished attendees also included MK Goyal, General Secretary, IPPTA; Nataraj, Deputy Director, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP); Nirmal Kuhad and Arvind Sharma, Directors of Papyrus Expo LLP; and B.R. Rao, President, Paper Foundation. Over 100 national and international exhibitors are showcasing the latest advancements in paper manufacturing, converting, printing, packaging, and recycling. More than 15,000 visitors are expected, including key decision-makers from across India and abroad. Speaking at the event, Soumyajit Mukherjee highlighted the dynamic potential of the paper industry, which engages nearly 2 million people and is valued at Rs80,000 crore. He noted the steady growth in writing and printing paper due to government education initiatives, and a resurgence in newspaper readership driven by declining digital trust. 'The industry is experiencing innovation across all verticals—from craft paper to recycled packaging boards,' he said. MK Goyal emphasised the importance of self-reliance within the sector, cautioning against over-dependence on imports and stressing the need to counter misinformation about paper usage. 'Despite being a sustainable industry, we've fallen victim to digital narratives that wrongly frame paper as environmentally harmful,' he said. Addressing the audience, Nirmal Kuhad reiterated PAPEXPO's role in debunking the deforestation myth. 'India's paper industry is among the most sustainable globally, with over 80% of production sourced from recycled materials like wastepaper, sugarcane bagasse, and agricultural residue,' he stated. The expo underscores the significance of paper in India's economic and ecological framework. Mr. Arvind Sharma called the sector a 'vital pillar' of India's economy, contributing extensively to employment and national tax revenue. PAPEXPO 2025 also aims to increase awareness about India's low per capita paper consumption—just 15–16 kg compared to the global average of 57 kg—and foster collaboration across industry segments. With the Indian paper market projected to reach $13.2 billion by 2033, and the packaging segment alone hitting $13.72 billion by 2025, the growth trajectory remains promising. Participants hail from major paper-producing states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, alongside international exhibitors. The Paper Foundation also seeks policy support from the Telangana Government to bolster green innovation and sustainability initiatives in the sector.
