Odisha govt moots scheme to develop villages of Odisha's greats
Announcing the initiative here on Monday, minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Rabi Narayan Naik said the state government plans to develop around 100 to 150 villages under the scheme in a bid to improve the rural infrastructure and living standards of people residing in these villages.
'Mahapurush Adarsh Gram will represent the Asmita of the Odia people. Many great persons of the state were born in small, underdeveloped villages. While their contributions are remembered, their birthplaces remain neglected. This scheme aims to develop infrastructure, employment opportunities, education and healthcare facilities in these villages,' the minister told mediapersons.

Officials review J'khand Odia-medium schools
1 2 Keonjhar: A group of officials from the district education office, Keonjhar, reviewed the condition of Odia-medium schools in Jharkhand on Tuesday after the Utkal Sammilani, Jharkhand, moved the Odisha govt over non-payment of assistance to these schools. The sammilani has said the teachers continue to teach despite not receiving salaries since two years. Separate teams visited Odia-medium schools in West Singhbhum and Sadheikala Kharsuan districts. "As per the govt's direction, we sent officials to study the condition of schools, collect data on the number of students and teachers. A report will be submitted to the government," said Purnachandra Bariha, district education officer, Keonjhar. One team led by additional district education officer, Keonjhar, Shrikant Kumar Jena visited Odia Primary School, Deogaon, Odia Primary School ,Kolchakada, Adarsh Madhya Vidyalaya, Deogaon (Kendo), Odia Middle School, Old Basti, Utkaramik Madhya Vidyalaya, Jola, among others in West Singhbhum district. The sammilani's Sadheikala-Kharsuan district president Sumant Chandra Mohanty was also present. According to Utkal Sammilani, Jharkhand, there are 118 Odia-speaking schools in the state and 154 Odia teachers are teaching 5,000 children in those. However, they are receiving salaries through financial grants from the Odisha govt but due to lack of grants, they have not received salaries for 2020-21 and 2024-25, said Pradhan. Phase-II distribution of AGY houses on PM's birthday: Min
BHUBANESWAR: The state government will issue work orders to more beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana on September 17 to mark the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, informed Rural Development minister Rabi Narayan Naik on Monday. He said the state government has planned to construct over five lakh houses under the scheme in the next three years, with a budget allocation of Rs 2,600 crore for the current year. Another Rs 7,550 crore will be provided in the next three years, he added. Under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana (AGY), poorest of the poor who did not figure in the priority list prepared by previous government, economically weaker sections, persons with disabilities (PwDs), widows, cancer patients, people suffering from other serious ailments, victims of natural/man-made calamities and beneficiaries of Forest Rights Act (FRA) will be be covered. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the AGY at a special function at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district on May 30 this year with distribution of work orders to 60,000 beneficiaries across the state. Naik said all left-out eligible households will be covered under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojan - Gramin (PMAY-G) and AGY in phases. The state government has received applications from nearly 37.90 lakh individuals for housing assistance under PMAY-G. Earlier, the minister had announced that work orders to the new eligible beneficiaries will be distributed from November.

IGNOU's diploma course books released in Odia language
Last Updated: Bhubaneswar, Aug 18 (PTI) The Odia version of textbooks and course materials of Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (DECE), offered by IGNOU, were released here on Monday by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj. The DECE is a one-year diploma course, open to students after completion of Class 12. The programme primarily focuses on early childhood education, child health and nutrition, an official said. Speaking on the occasion, Parida said the introduction of DECE in Odia will particularly benefit anganwadi workers and trainers, as well as pre-school educators who can pursue the course in their mother tongue. The Higher Education Department of Odisha had signed an MoU with Indira Gandhi National Open University on June 9 this year to introduce various IGNOU courses in Odia.
