
Six injured in Penang multi-vehicle crashes
The crashes, which occurred between 8.30pm and 9pm, began at the Jalan Perak traffic light junction and ended along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway heading towards Batu Uban.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the series of collisions involved a Proton X70 SUV, a Perodua Myvi, a Honda City, a Honda Vario motorcycle and a Honda C100 motorcycle.
"Initial investigations showed the incident began when the Proton X70 crashed into the rear of a Perodua Myvi at the Jalan Perak traffic light junction," he said.
The driver of the SUV then continued along Jalan Perak, where he struck the two motorcycles. He later proceeded onto the expressway, where he rear-ended a Honda City.
"All the drivers and motorcyclists, including a pillion rider, sustained injuries and were taken to Penang Hospital for treatment," he said.
Those seriously injured include the 50-year-old local man driving the Proton X70; the 29-year-old rider of the Honda Vario; a 56-year-old man and his 15-year-old pillion rider on the Honda C100; and the 29-year-old woman driving the Honda City.
The 44-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Myvi escaped with minor injuries.
Police are investigating the case under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Woman killed after being hit by car in Kota Tinggi

Duo fined RM10,000 each for controlling bank accounts of 90 people
SEREMBAN: Two men were each fined RM10,000, in default 12 months in jail, by the Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday (Aug 6) after pleading guilty to a charge of possessing and controlling the bank accounts of 90 people without lawful authority or purpose. Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli meted out the fine on Lim Jiunn Liang, 28, and Justine Chung Yin Wei, 25. The two men were charged with committing the offence at a car park near a bank here at 9.50am on July 29 this year. Based on the facts of the case, they were arrested by a police team from the Operational Intelligence Division of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Negeri Sembilan Police Contingent Headquarters through a Special Op against online scam. Also seized in the operation were a Honda City car, 90 ATM cards from various banks, six mobile phones of various brands, a Malaysian passport and 22 pieces of RM50 banknotes.
