Two Maoist leaders surrender after four decades underground; Telangana Police hail major success
Mala Sanjeev alias Lengu Dada (62), originally from Medchal–Malkajgiri district, worked as a key figure in the Maoist cultural wing and later in armed squads. He started his Maoist journey in 1980 with Jana Natya Mandali under revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, organising cultural programs to spread the ideology. Over the years, he served as Division Committee Member, State Committee Member, and finally as Secretariat Member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC).
His wife, Perugula Parvathi (50), from Nagarkurnool district, joined the movement in 1992. She initially worked in armed dalams in the Nallamala region before shifting to propaganda activities. Rising through the ranks, she became a State Committee Member in 2018 and played an active role in mobilising tribal communities in Chhattisgarh.
The couple, who escaped several encounters during their underground years, decided to surrender, influenced by the Telangana government's rehabilitation schemes. Police hailed the surrender as a major success of their outreach and appealed to other Maoists to 'shun violence and return to their villages.'
Officials assured that surrendered cadres would receive full benefits to lead a dignified life.

Security forces recover 14 live IEDs
1 2 3 Jamshedpur: The security forces recovered 14 live IEDs from the forest on the borders of West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Sunday. Along with the live IEDs, weighing 2kg each, the security forces also recovered a country-made hand grenade, ammonia nitrate powder, firecracker powder and a steel container. The explosives were defused at the spot in a controlled way by the bomb disposal squad of the West Singhbhum police. West Singhbhum police said that a combing operation was launched in the jungle area spreading across Toklo thana in Singhbhum and Kuchai thana in Seraikela on Saturday on receiving intelligence about Maoists concealing the explosives to target the security forces. The security forces comprising Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ), CRPF 60 Battalion and police of the two adjoining districts recovered the explosives earlier in the morning.

Maoists call bandh in J'khand, four other states on August 3
1 2 Ranchi: Jharkhand police are on high alert as Maoists would observe 'samriti samarohs' from July 20 to August 3 in memory of central committee member and eastern regional bureau member Vivek alias Karam Kranti, who was killed in a police encounter at Lugu Pahar area of Bokaro district on April 21. Besides, they have also called a bandh on Aug 3 in Jharkhand, and four other states — Bihar, North Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Assam — to protest Vivek's killing and deaths of other cadres in govt's 'Operation Kagar'. Contacted, inspector general (operations) Michal Raj said, "Police are on high alert to prevent any untoward incident in view of the Maoists' programme." He added that 'Smirti sabhas' should be held successfully in their memory. He said that Vivek's killing was a big loss for the Maoist organisation. Sanket has called upon the workers, farmers, students, youths, women and other sections of the society to make the bandh call on August 3 successful.
