Maine Fire Marshall's Office investigating fire that destroyed garage in Kennebunkport
The Maine Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a garage and severely damaged a home in Kennebunkport.
On Friday, around 7:30 PM, Kennebunkport Fire crews responded to 47 Maine Street, also known as 'The Tamaracks,' to reports of a fire.
Due to the size of the fire, mutual aid was provided by Kennebunk, Wells, Arundel, and Biddeford Fire Departments.
The fire was eventually put down, but not before destroying a garage, severely damaging a home adjacent to it, and also destroying numerous vehicles either stored in or around the garage.
No injuries were reported, but a family has been displaced due to the damage to their home.
Investigators say that a motorcycle had been started just before the fire began, which is being considered a possible cause of the fire.
Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Fire Departments are assisting the Fire Marshal's Office with the ongoing investigation.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.

Dr. Phil was embedded with ICE during controversial Los Angeles immigration raids
As federal agents prepared to fan out in Los Angeles for a controversial immigration crackdown, the officers were greeted by a familiar face: Dr. Phil McGraw. The television personality and his camera crew were embedded with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement when some of the raids took place on Friday. The footage is being incorporated into a special report on 'Dr. Phil Primetime,' a program on McGraw's conservative TV channel Merit TV, a spokesperson confirmed to CNN. McGraw's presence on the ground in L.A. reinforces the made-for-TV nature of Trump's immigration crackdown. The former daytime talk show host was also embedded with ICE officials in Chicago back in January, when some federal agents were told to be camera-ready for a show of force at the very start of President Trump's second term. McGraw was on hand Friday 'to get a first-hand look at the targeted operations,' according to his channel. He also chatted with Trump's border czar Tom Homan and taped a promotional interview with Homan. The Friday raids resulted in the detainment of dozens of people, sparking protests and violent reactions. On Saturday, reacting in part to the television pictures of the chaos, Trump authorized the deployment of the National Guard. Trump officials have repeatedly tried to maximize television and online attention around immigration enforcement activities this year. Homan and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are regulars on Fox News and other Trump-aligned TV networks. They also frequently publicize ICE actions on X and other social media platforms. As protests escalated in L.A., Trump officials used X to justify Trump's extraordinary deployment of the National Guard and warn Angelenos not to impede immigration operations. 'We are not stopping or slowing down. We are not intimidated or apprehensive,' FBI deputy director Dan Bongino wrote in one of his messages. Trump set the administration's tone through his own posts on Truth Social, at times sounding like the marketer of an action movie. 'A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals,' he claimed on Sunday, promising federal action to 'liberate' L.A. 'Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free,' Trump wrote, spurring criticism from residents who said he was vastly overstating the severity of the situation. Early Monday morning, as Los Angeles police worked to disperse demonstrators, Trump appeared to be watching TV as he posted about a police press conference and reacted to videos of skirmishes in the streets. 'Looking really bad in L.A.,' Trump wrote. 'BRING IN THE TROOPS!!!'

2 Killed in Shooting on Las Vegas Strip
A gunman shot and killed two people on a busy Sunday night on the Las Vegas Strip near the fountains outside the Bellagio hotel, the Las Vegas Police said. The police said in a statement early Monday that they had identified the shooter but were still seeking to arrest him. The shooting was an isolated episode, the police added. The gunman and the victims knew each other and 'had previously engaged in conflict over social media,' the police said. The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. Pacific on the 3600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard, close to the Bellagio Resort & Casino, the police said. Officers were patrolling the area, the police said, when they heard gunshots. When officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found two people 'suffering from apparent gunshot wounds,' the police said. Medical personnel arrived shortly afterward and the two victims died at the scene, the police said. Footage that was circulating online Monday, verified by Storyful, shows a man firing a gun and people running for cover. The police did not immediately identify the victims. The Clark County Coroner's office did not immediately respond to a request to provide details about the victims.

Waymo robotaxis, Lime e-scooters set ablaze during LA protests
Several Waymo robotaxis and Lime e-scooters were set on fire this weekend amid unrest in downtown Los Angeles spurred by groups protesting immigration raids in the city by the Trump administration. A group of protesters attacked five Waymo autonomous vehicles on Los Angeles Street early on Sunday evening, reports Los Angeles Times. They slashed tires, broke windows, and spray-painted anti-ICE messages. Three cars were set on fire, and at one point, 'the besieged Waymos began honking their horns in coordinated cacophony,' the LA Times wrote. Multiple Waymo vehicles set ablaze here in LA — Brendan Gutenschwager (@BGOnTheScene) June 9, 2025 The Times reports that some Lime e-scooters were also thrown into the burning shells of Waymo's Jaguar I-Paces. The LAPD noted that setting fire to lithium-ion batteries releases toxic gases like hydrogen fluoride, posing a risk to bystanders. It's not clear why protesters attacked the Waymo vehicles. In the past, police have tapped robotaxi companies for footage to help solve crimes — in April, 404 Media reported that the LAPD published video footage obtained from a Waymo driverless car as part of an investigation into a separate hit-and-run incident. Waymo and Lime did not respond to requests for comment. Since Waymo launched its self-driving ride-hail service in Los Angeles in November 2024, its cars have been the target of several acts of vandalism in LA and other cities it operates in. In July 2024, a Bay Area resident was charged with vandalizing 17 Waymos in San Francisco over the course of three days. The protests in Los Angeles began on June 6 in response to a series of aggressive ICE raids across the city, leading to the arrest of over 100 immigrants. A mix of peaceful and violent protests spread over the weekend to Paramount and Compton, and blocked major freeways. Techcrunch event Save $200+ on your TechCrunch All Stage pass Build smarter. Boston, MA | REGISTER NOW President Trump responded by federalizing the California National Guard, and deploying up to 300 soldiers to Los Angeles. State and city officials opposed this action, with California Governor Gavin Newsom formally requesting the removal of National Guard troops, saying the move was a 'serious breach of state sovereignty.' Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said over the weekend he's prepared to mobilize the Marines if violence continues. Videos circulating online show LAPD personnel beating back anti-ICE protesters, and even some journalists, with batons and rubber bullets.
