Its minister, Gobind Singh Deo, said these include guidelines on Data Protection Impact Assessment; Data Protection by Design guidelines; and guidelines on Automated Decision Making (ADM) and Profiling.
"These are initiatives by the Digital Ministry to combat online scams driven by AI like deepfake videos and voice cloning,' he said.
Gobind reiterated his ministry's commitment to step up efforts to develop a safe, responsible and resilient AI ecosystem in line with making Malaysia a regional pioneer in digital economy and cyber security.
The National Digital Department is also developing Guidelines for AI Adaptation in the Public Sector to support government departments and agencies to implement safe, ethical and responsible use of AI.
"The government is also conducting training and capacity building programmes to enforcement agencies and the civil service in cyber security and AI fields through 'AI Untuk Rakyat' and MD Workforce training programmes under the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC),' he added.
CyberSecurity Malaysia is also developing an AI-based app in partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to confirm the veracity of photos and videos aimed to assist cyber crime investigations such as online scams, identity theft and the spread of digital slander. — Bernama

National Cloud Computing Policy to be launched next week
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is set to launch its National Cloud Computing Policy (NCCP) on Aug 13 in conjunction with the Asean AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25). Digital Ministry secretary-general Fabian Bigar said the policy outlines Malaysia's strategic vision to strengthen national cloud infrastructure, promote trusted and secure data governance, and accelerate the adoption of cloud technologies across both the public and private sectors. He said it will be launched by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. "As a foundational enabler for AI and digital innovation, the NCCP sets the stage for a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready digital economy. "The AAIMS25 platform provides the ideal setting to demonstrate how cloud and AI will work in tandem to deliver national impact, foster regional cooperation, and unlock new opportunities across Asean's digital ecosystem," he said during a media briefing here today. Fabian said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to deliver the keynote address during the opening ceremony of the summit on Aug 12. He added that several ministers from Asean member states, including Singapore and Cambodia, as well as the Asean secretary-general, would also be attending. Fabian added that Malaysia's national AI agenda has been built on the foundation of inclusion, innovation and integrity. With Malaysia taking on the Asean chairmanship in 2025, he said this vision can now be scaled to the regional level, supporting cross-border alignment on AI governance, standards, talent development and ecosystem growth. "This is also in line with the Asean Digital Masterplan 2025 and the Asean Guide on AI Governance and Ethics. "The presence and support of the Asean Secretariat and its secretary-general further elevate the significance of the summit. "Their involvement reinforces the status of AAIMS25 as the region's premier platform for AI collaboration and reflects a collective commitment to advancing Asean's digital priorities," he said. He added that AAIMS25 aims to produce several key outcomes to build a unified and responsible AI future for the region. This includes the issuance of a joint ministerial statement by Asean digital ministers to align policies across member states, identify shared priorities, and build consensus on harmonised frameworks for AI and digital governance. Fabian said the summit would also advance regional discussions on AI governance by building on existing frameworks such as the Asean Guide for AI Governance and Ethics and the Asean Responsible AI Roadmap. He said these frameworks will be translated into concrete regional actions to ensure that AI development and deployment across Asean is not only innovative, but also upholds safety, fairness, and accountability. "The event will encourage significant public-private investment to democratise AI access. "It will also drive the creation of regional "sandboxes" for safe innovation and advancing the Aswan AI Safety Network development, to promote exchange of knowledge and best practices in the region," he said. AAIMS25 is expected to host over 1,500 delegates over the two-day period including representatives from Asean member states, Timor-Leste, dialogue partners, and the broader AI ecosystem. It is expected to offer a multi-stakeholder platform featuring keynotes by senior government leaders and global AI experts, ministerial and multilateral dialogues on digital trust and governance, panels, fireside chats, and roundtables exploring AI policy, infrastructure among others. The summit's content framework is built around five strategic clusters including governance, ethics and trust; infrastructure, cloud and compute sovereignty; sectoral applications; talent development and workforce transformation; and emerging AI frontiers, including agentic AI and system interoperability. Senior policy leaders, along with renowned figures from the global AI ecosystem and leading academic institutions, will also be featured at the summit. They are expected to contribute their expertise in thought leadership, research and applied innovation.
