Forget what you heard! The iPhone 17 lineup might all be powered by next-gen chips
According to a new report, the base iPhone 17 won't be using the A18 chip from the iPhone 16 after all. Instead, Apple is reportedly packing the next-gen A19 chipset inside, putting it on the same playing field as the iPhone 17 Air. The Pro models, of course, should take it one step further with the more powerful A19 Pro chip.
However, while the chip might be upgraded, this latest report once again points to only 8 GB of RAM for the base iPhone 17 . The rest of the lineup – including the Air and Pro models – should jump to 12 GB for the first time ever on an iPhone. And that extra RAM should make a difference when it comes to multitasking and all the AI-heavy features Apple Intelligence is set to bring.
Now, to be honest, using the A19 in the entire iPhone 17 series feels like a more typical Apple move and for me, it was always a bit hard to imagine the company reusing the same chip from the previous base model again.
Yes, Apple has done something similar before, like with the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, which reused the A15 chip from the iPhone 13 Pro lineup or the base iPhone 15 getting the chipset from the iPhone 14 Pro models. But those kinds of decisions haven't been consistent enough to call it a pattern and it feels more natural for Apple to move ahead with the latest chip across the board.

And what's the difference between the two? Well, the A19 Pro is expected to have more GPU cores and higher clock speeds compared to the standard version. That should translate to noticeably better performance in graphics-heavy tasks like gaming, video editing, or anything AR-related. Basically, the Pro version of the chip is built to power the more advanced features you'll find on the higher-end iPhones. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!

A revised heading being tested will bring new branding to the Google Messages app
The iconic multi-colored "G" logo used by Google could be on the verge of getting removed from the Google Messages app. While Google has been making small changes to its apps, many of them based on the Material 3 Expressive design, it also has a change in the works for Google Messages that has to do with the app's branding. It really isn't a big deal but it does give the app a new look. Android Authority was sniffing around the Google Messages app and made quite the discovery. While the current version of the app uses the iconic "G" logo on the top-left side of the app's heading followed by the word "Messages, by using some magic (possibly picked up at Hogwarts), a big change was spotted. The "G" logo will be replaced with the full Google wordmark followed by the word "Messages." The word "Google" uses the same four colors as the Google "G" logo: Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green. Android Authority was able to create the new look, including showing everyone what this new branding will look like on Galaxy phones running Samsung's One UI. Google has already made the same change on several other of its apps including Google Photos, Google Calendar, and Drive. Google is changing the branding on Google Messages frim the iconic Logo to the use of the Google Wordmark. | Image credit-Android Authority Google Messages is an important app for Android users since it supports Rich Communication Services (RCS). Android users employing Google Messages as their messaging app can run RCS on chats with other Google Messages users and even enjoy end-to-end encryption which is something that is not yet offered when a Google Messages user is in an RCS chat with an iPhone user. Some Android users, for some strange reason, prefer to load messaging apps that have the name of their wireless provider. If it didn't come pre-installed on your Android phone, you can install Google Messages by tapping on this link and following the directions to download it on your phone. It isn't clear when this new branding look will be pushed out through stable channels. All we can say at the moment is that Google has been looking to feature uniform branding on its apps. With the new look, even the greenest smartphone user could tell that the messages app he's using is Google Messages. Pixel Watch 4 might finally bring a feature it must have had years ago
Pixel Watch 3 | Image credit — PhoneArena Google might be breaking new ground with the Pixel Watch 4 and finally offer a whole strength training experience. The device may also feature upgrades for various other sports, demonstrating Google's fitness ambitions. A new report from Android Headlines claims that Google might introduce an all-new strength training experience with the Pixel Watch 4 . That could include a Workout Builder, which may allow users to create custom interval workouts with warm-ups and cool-downs. The new feature's idea would be to help users maximize their performance and avoid potential injuries. Pixel Watch 4 may track those workouts and provide real-time guidance, helping users reach their fitness goals. At the end of the workouts, the watch might give users detailed insights into their form. All those features would be a breath of fresh air for anyone who hits the gym more often than the track. Most smartwatches, including all previous Pixel Watch models, focus mainly on cardio workouts, such as running and cycling, and don't provide much information or guidance for strength strength training upgrades don't mean that the Pixel Watch 4 will ditch cardio workouts. The smartwatch might offer AI-powered run recommendations, which would be available to Fitbit Premium subscribers. Runners may also enjoy advanced metrics for their runs. The expected metrics are: cadence stride length vertical oscillation ground contact vertical ratio ground contact balance Other sports are also likely to get upgraded. Google may handle swim tracking better and improve the cycling experience with the watch. The report also claims that the Pixel Watch 4 activity recognition might get much better, helping it to automatically identify sporting activities with higher precision. Leaked render of the Pixel Watch 4 | Image credit — 91 Mobiles Earlier this week, Google announced it'll hold an event on August 20. While there's no official confirmation, it's expected that the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be introduced at that event. The Pixel Watch 4 is also likely to be part of the Made by Google announcements. I think Google is on the right track with the strength training features. Going to the gym is more popular than ever, but fitness technology is lagging. Part of the reason is that tracking gym exercises with a watch is technically challenging. However, AI and the more advanced sensors on newer models might be a solution. Either way, as a gym aficionado, I'm excited about those Pixel Watch 4 features.

Apple pressures Samsung and LG to help it combat tariffs by reducing their profits
*Image credit — Bloomberg Apple is reportedly ( translated source ) pressuring display suppliers Samsung and LG to lower their prices so that the iPhone 17 isn't impacted too heavily by U.S. tariffs. The new iPhone lineup will likely see price increases, but the company is determined to lower the sticker shock as much as it can before Display is apparently trying to negotiate with Apple about the latter's demands. LG Display, on the other hand, has accepted the new terms as its revenue was too dependent on this year's orders for the iPhone 17 . To further complicate matters, Apple had to exclude Chinese display manufacturer BOE from this year's supply. The iPhone 17 series is seeing a long-awaited upgrade, with even the base model finally featuring a 120 Hz LTPO display: what Apple calls a 'ProMotion' display. BOE was apparently unable to meet the company's standards, though it has secured some orders for the Chinese stock very recently. President Trump has specifically targeted the iPhone with tariffs if Apple continues to manufacture its phones abroad and imports them Stateside. The tariff policies affect a lot of products, but the president has repeatedly named the iPhone personally, insisting that its production be shifted to the U.S. iPhone 16e uses displays provided by BOE. | Video credit — Apple This pressure from the president has been tough on CEO Tim Cook, but the company has deemed the tariffs to be more acceptable than shifting production to the U.S. That hasn't stopped Apple from trying to reduce manufacturing costs wherever it can, however. The iPhone 17 series, with its upgrade to 12 GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence and the aforementioned 120 Hz displays, will almost certainly be more expensive. This price is only going to keep going up as Apple shifts to 2 nm chipsets next year with the A20 processors. Samsung — Apple's largest smartphone rival in the States — also manufactures its phones outside the U.S. However, it hasn't been the direct target of Trump's insistence for smartphones made in America, and is quietly coasting Display, in my opinion, will likely succumb to Apple's demands this year, or at least reach a compromise. How that affects the final retail price of the iPhone 17 models is still unclear, though an increase is almost guaranteed.
