Omar Abdullah Climbs Wall To Offer ‘Fatiha' At Martyrs' Graveyard Day After ‘House Arrest'
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday climbed over a wall to enter the Martyrs' Graveyard in Srinagar's Nowhatta area and pay tributes, after being stopped by authorities.
Accompanied by party leaders and cabinet ministers, Abdullah walked from Nawhatta Chowk after access to the site was restricted.
A video accessed by CNN-News18 shows him scaling the gate of the Naqshband Sahib shrine to reach the graveyard.
'Paid my respects & offered Fatiha at the graves of the martyrs of 13th July 1931. The unelected government tried to block my way forcing me to walk from Nawhatta chowk. They blocked the gate to Naqshband Sb shrine forcing me to scale a wall. They tried to physically grapple me but I was not going to be stopped today," Abdullah posted on X.
This is the physical grappling I was subjected to but I am made of sterner stuff & was not to be stopped. I was doing nothing unlawful or illegal. In fact these 'protectors of the law" need to explain under what law they were trying to stop us from offering Fatiha pic.twitter.com/8Fj1BKNixQ — Omar Abdullah (@OmarAbdullah) July 14, 2025
The visit came a day after the administration, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, barred political leaders from holding events marking the July 13 anniversary, observed in memory of 22 people killed during protests against the Dogra rule in 1931.
Several NC leaders alleged that they were placed under house arrest on Sunday to prevent them from participating in the observance.

Hurriyat irrelevant, Kashmiris must look for place in India: Separatist leader Bilal Lone
Srinagar: Bilal Lone, separatist leader and son of slain senior separatist leader Abdul Gani Lone, said on Saturday that the separatist Hurriyat Conference is irrelevant and Kashmiris must look for their space within India. Bilal Lone is the younger brother of Sajad Gani Lone, former minister and chief of the Peoples Conference (NC). In an interview today, Bilal Lone said that the separatist Hurriyat Conference is itself responsible for becoming irrelevant, adding that the Hurriyat Conference has become non-functional. He blamed Pakistan for creating a mess in Kashmir. He said that his change of state owed itself to the motivation of the next generation of Kashmir, whom he urged to see India as India since it is a very big power. He said the present generation has a right to know the truth about what happened in Kashmir during the last 35 years. He said Kashmiris have to realise that the 'politics of exploitation' must stop. While admitting that the people of Kashmir had reposed their trust in the Hurriyat Conference, Bilal said that at present the Hurriyat is nowhere, and it is time for the people to accept the change. He said Pakistan made statements, but nothing happened in reality, so Pakistan must play a soothing role in Kashmir's progress rather than create a mess here. He claimed that he had no regret for being on the other side, opposing India, but had big regret for failing to achieve anything. Bilal Lone said his change of stand was not to become the chief minister, but he now stands for a genuine political process.

Liquor scam: YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy appears before SIT
Amaravati, Jul 19 (PTI) Rajampeta LS member PV Midhun Reddy on Saturday appeared before the Special Investigation Team probing the alleged Rs 3,200-crore liquor scam during the previous YSRCP regime. The YSRCP leader arrived in Vijayawada to attend the probe and his questioning comes in the wake of the arrest of other accused persons–Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy and Balaji Govindappa. The opposition party slammed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly indulging in vindictive behaviour and foisting 'false' cases against people close to YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The case against Mithun Reddy is part of a larger vindictive conspiracy to arrest people who are in close proximity to the party leadership, said senior YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu in a party release. 'But we will bounce back to call the bluff of Chandrababu Naidu," he said, adding that the more vindictive the actions of the Naidu government, the stronger YSRCP's resolve becomes to fight back and expose the 'failures and corruption' of the coalition government. 'I am confident that justice will prevail and that the judiciary will act fairly. His decision to attend the inquiry shows his determination to prove his innocence and his respect for the rule of law," Reddy told PTI Videos.
