Is Cousins Beach from 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' a Real Place?

Elle6 days ago
The third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty officially began streaming on July 16. The Prime Video series, based on the books by Jenny Han (To All the Boys I've Loved Before), has quickly become a fan favorite. The series follows Isabel 'Belly' Conklin (Lola Tung) as she's caught between two crushes: her childhood friend Conrad (Christopher Briney) and his younger brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
There's also growth and drama in their family dynamics, but the heart of the series is the love story that takes place on Cousins Beach, where Belly's family visits every year. Here's where they made that atmosphere come to life.
The two families vacation every year at Cousins Beach, but sadly, it turns out that the beach does not actually exist. Han told Prime Video that she 'had a lot of beaches in [her] head' as she was forming Belly's story. 'I think that's part of the reason why people can read the book and feel like [Cousins Beach] is their beach,' she said. In another interview with Today, she said that Cousins Beach was inspired by Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, the Hamptons, and Nags Head.
Nags Head is in North Carolina, and that's where the show was eventually filmed—more specifically, the town of Wilmington. Other shows filmed in Wilmington, NC include Netflix's The Waterfront and the classic dramas One Tree Hill and Dawson's Creek.
The Fisher family's house is located in a Wilmington gated community called Porters Neck Plantation. That's where many of the house's exterior shots were filmed. '[The house] had to have that cedar shake on it because [Han] wanted that Cape Cod Northeast look,' the location manager, Lindsay Fort, told People.
As for the interior of the house, those scenes took place on sound stages in Wilmington, but the attention to detail is all the same.
'Our character Susannah [Conrad and Jeremiah's mom] loves to garden, and there are always fresh flowers throughout the house,' the production designer for season 1, Teresa Mastropierro, told House Beautiful. 'Our greens department literally transformed the landscape around the house. I think we bought every last hydrangea plant in the state.'
In addition to Wilmington, scenes were filmed in other North Carolina locations like Southport, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Old River Farms, Porters Neck Country Club, Fort Fisher, and Wrightsville Beach, per People. The latter is where Belly and Jeremiah took the path from the house to the beach in season 1.
'That's the one with the seashells hanging in it,' Fort, told People about Wrightsville Beach. 'It has that really pretty romantic vibe that they run down that path.'
College scenes were filmed at Han's alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
'Filming at my old dorm, Old East, was definitely emotional,' Han told UNC. 'I was in the first class of women who were allowed to live there. I would lay out in the grass and listen to music and look up at the stars. It felt very romantic and nostalgic to come back and be able to shoot my show here.'

The Ultimatum's Dayna Claims Netflix Aired Topless Footage Without Approval

Season 2 of The Ultimatum: Queer Love recently aired on Netflix, and it's safe to say that it was a pretty wild ride. Featuring scathing arguments and raunchy sex scenes, the show is pretty well known for its unfiltered and messy content. However, one particular scene from this season that really left viewers at home shocked saw cast member Dayna Mathews walking around topless. In completely uncensored footage that appears to have been taken via a camera in her apartment, Dayna was seen removing her top and seemingly wearing nothing underneath. Her trial marriage partner, Mel Vitale, said, 'Dayna, you're naked, bro!' The scene immediately got viewers talking, and before long, Dayna entered the conversation herself. 'Going to a family event after everyone saw my t*ts on TV,' she wrote in a TikTok video as she lip-synced a soundbite that says: "Why is everyone acting weird towards me?" Dayna later replied to a user who asked if she'd given her 'approval' for the NSFW footage to air. 'did they ask for ur approval to put them on the show ???' they asked, to which Dayna alleged, 'Nope🙃😐.' Dayna also noted in a separate TikTok comment that while she appeared completely topless, she did have 'sticky boob things' on that weren't visible to viewers. We'll keep you posted if more unfolds.

How to watch ‘The Assassin' online from anywhere

"Are you really not going to tell me why you're some kind of perimenopausal James Bond?' asks Edward (played by Freddie Highmore), the estranged son of Keeley Hawes' character Julie. And that is not even the most difficult question the retired hitwoman has to answer when her past resists her and the two of them are forced to go on the run. Below, we reveal where to watch 'The Assassin' online and from anywhere with a VPN. "The Assassin" premieres on Friday, July 25.• UK— Amazon Prime (FREE 30-day trial)• Aus — Stan Watch anywhere — Try NordVPN 100% risk free Ok, it might sound a bit contrived but it actually works. Hawes seem to have the most fun as the kick ass middle aged woman called out of retirement for the inevitable "one last job" while Highmore follows behind trying to assemble what he can of his own back story through the smokescreen of secrecy laid by his mother. A great supporting cast including Gina Gershon, Jack Davenport, Richard Dormer and Alan "Jim from Neighbours" Dale plus dramatic action scenes and crazy plot twists provide plenty of reasons to suspend disbelief. Set on a beautiful Greek Island, it's not exactly "Mamma Mia" but it does have a similar vibe. With added sniper rifle. Below is our full guide to how to watch 'The Assassin' online with an Amazon Prime Video 30-day FREE trial. "The Assassin" is available to stream in the U.K. on Prime Video from Friday, July 25. In addition to 'The Assassin', Prime Video is also home to hit originals like 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', 'Fallout', 'My Lady Jane', 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' and 'The Boys'. If you try to access your Amazon Prime account from abroad, you might find that your access is restricted – and some titles might be unavailable until your return home. The solution? Netflix Is Deleting ‘Happy Gilmore' A Week After ‘Happy Gilmore 2' Releases

Happy Gilmore 2 If you want an example of streaming licensing weirdness, look no further than what's about to happen on Netflix. The service has made a big deal about managing to make a sequel to Happy Gilmore nearly 30 years after the release of the Adam Sandler classic. But Netflix is removing the original movie just a week after it airs. Happy Gilmore 2 is out this Friday, July 25. Happy Gilmore 1, which has climbed to #3 on Netflix ahead of the sequel's release, is being removed from Netflix, along with a wider slate of movies, on August 1. Yes, movies and shows come and go, but this is an especially bizarre example, where if you want a Happy Gilmore refresher and don't want to hop streaming services, you have a week to do so. Happy Gilmore will still be airing on Hulu or Peacock, but not Netflix, going forward. It certainly seems like Netflix should have tried to get this sequel out much sooner, but production may have been pushed to its limit to get it out by now, I suppose. Still, rather poor planning on their end. Happy Gilmore 2 is bringing back other core cast members besides Sandler like Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller and Christopher McDonald. As its most prominent new cast member, it has the red-hot Margaret Qualley, fresh off her high-profile turn in The Substance. Unfortunately, a larger role was written for Carl Weathers, Sandler's mentor in the first film, before he passed away in February 2024. As for what exactly is going on in this 30-years-later sequel, here's the synopsis: Happy Gilmore is one of those classic comedies that critics deemed just okay at the time (a 63% score) and fans loved (an 85% score with 250,000 reviews in on Rotten Tomatoes). It's widely regarded as one of Sandler's best, and it's certainly surprising to see him return to the role after he's branched into much different films like Uncut Gems. He's found success on Netflix before with Murder Mystery 1 and 2 opposite Jennifer Aniston, widely watched comedies. So, hurry up and watch Happy Gilmore if you perhaps have not done so in the last 29 years. You have a week, or really, you have a day if you want to watch it before the actual premiere of the movie tomorrow. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.
