AI, VR, AR to play bigger role in polytechnic, community college teaching
Its secretary-general Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim said higher learning institutions must move beyond conventional methods and embrace tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to produce competitive talent.
"For the first time this year, these technologies are being showcased in an exhibition format at the POLYCC eDOLA Digital Fair 2025, allowing visitors to experience the technology used in teaching and learning," he said in a statement issued by the Polytechnic and Community College Education Department today.
Anesee earlier launched the closing of the two-day fair at Setia City Mall, which featured digital innovations including AI, AR, VR, flight simulators, robotics and e-sports.
The event also saw the launch of ILHAM\@CeLT (Innovative Learning Hub for Advancing Method) by Politeknik METrO Kuala Lumpur, aimed at developing future-focused digital teaching materials.
In addition, the fair hosted Malaysia's first POLYCC–AWS League of Large Language Model (LLM) Bootcamp, organised by Amazon Web Services (AWS), making POLYCC the first agency in the country to hold the programme.
The fair is part of efforts to raise awareness and promote a digital culture in line with the National Digitalisation Policy.

KUALA LUMPUR: A special meeting was held to tackle telecommunications and internet coverage issues on Malaysian highways, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The discussion involved Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM). The meeting was prompted by frequent complaints from highway users about dropped calls and poor connectivity. Nanta stated, 'To date, approximately 50 kilometres of highways have been identified as not receiving telecommunications coverage, including in several sections of the PLUS Expressway, West Coast Expressway (WCE) and East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2).' Key outcomes from the meeting include the formation of a Special LLM-MCMC Task Force. This team will coordinate an action plan, identify critical drop call zones, and assess the need for additional telecom infrastructure. Highway concessionaires will also be engaged to implement both short and long-term solutions. Nanta emphasized the urgency of the matter, saying, 'This issue cannot be taken lightly. In an all-digital world, access to the internet and telecommunications network is no longer a luxury, but a basic necessity, including when on the highway.' Additionally, regional LLM and state MCMC teams are conducting on-site inspections to evaluate power supply facilities for infrastructure upgrades. Nanta also proposed MCMC's direct involvement in resolving frequency disruptions and supporting the multi-lane free flow (MLFF) system. He reaffirmed the government's commitment, stating, 'Our commitment is clear, not only to build roads, but also to ensure that the people are always connected smoothly and safely.' – Bernama

Malaysia set to emerge as Asean AI hub with Nvidia-YTL partnership
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is poised to emerge as a regional hub and centre of excellence for artificial intelligence (AI) in Southeast Asia, following the signing of a landmark partnership between Nvidia Corp and YTL Power International Bhd. YTL Corp Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh described the partnership as a "blessing". "We are indeed blessed to be a partner of visionary Jensen Huang's Nvidia and also to continue to play a role as a leaven to boost the productive use of AI in the Asean region," Yeoh told Business Times. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the agreement marks a significant step in accelerating Malaysia's AI capabilities. The initiative, backed by a substantial investment of RM10 billion, underscores Malaysia's ambition to position itself at the forefront of AI innovation. "This landmark project includes the development of AI data centres, deployment of Nvidia's high-performance graphics processing units and, most importantly, the creation of Malaysia's own sovereign large language model (LLM)," Tengku Zafrul shared on X. The sovereign LLM is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing Malaysia's digital autonomy by enabling the creation of AI solutions tailored to local languages, cultures and industries — supporting national security and propelling digital economic growth. YTL Power, a unit of YTL Corp, will lead the physical development of the AI infrastructure.
