Inquest opens into deaths of two motorcyclists who were killed in 11-bike crash during race at Oulton Park

Daily Mail11-06-2025
Inquests were opened today into the deaths of two motorcyclists killed in a crash during a race when 11 riders fell at the first corner of a racetrack.
Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, died after the collision at Oulton Park in Cheshire on May 5.
Inquests into their deaths were opened at Cheshire Coroner's Court today, with brief hearings for both men told they were involved in the collision at the racetrack.
Mr Jenner, of Medway, East Sussex, was pronounced dead at the scene, the hearing was told.
Mr Richardson, who was originally from New Zealand but living in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, died later that day in the Winsford area while being taken to hospital.
Assistant coroner Elizabeth Wheeler adjourned the hearings and listed full inquests to be held on January 13, 2026. The cause of death for each man was not mentioned.
Race organisers previously said Mr Jenner suffered a 'catastrophic head injury' and Mr Richardson was taken to the medical centre with 'severe chest injuries' but died while he was being transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
The riders were taking part in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship organised by MotorSport Vision Racing, which abandoned the race as medical services were deployed to help the injured.
In a statement released at the time, a MotorSport Vision Racing spokesman said the race was immediately stopped after the 'chain reaction incident'.
The spokesman said: 'This catastrophic accident has tragically resulted in two riders being fatally injured, and another sustaining significant injuries.'
Mr Richardson, who had a young family, previously described himself online as 'just a joiner from New Zealand chasing my dreams and racing'.
Organisers said a third rider, Tom Tunstall, 47, suffered a broken bone in his neck in the crash.
Mr Tunstall was treated on the track and taken to the medical centre before being transferred to the Royal Stoke with 'significant back and abdominal injuries'.
Five other riders were treated in the medical centre with minor injuries, but did not need hospital treatment.
Cheshire Constabulary previously said officers were investigating the crash along with the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing.
The Supersport Championship is a support class to the main British Superbike series.
Mr Jenner was the 2024 British GP2 champion and was signed to Rapid Honda.
Mr Richardson was in the Astro JJR Hippo Suzuki team sponsored by Hippo waste removal service.
Former 'grid girl' Hannah James, who was Mr Richardson's partner, had also suffered the death of a previous partner in the sport.
Her previous boyfriend Billy Redmayne, 24, was killed in a crash at the Oliver's Mount Spring Cup in North Yorkshire in 2016.

Multiple students injured in school bus crash carrying more than 40 kids on first day back to school

A Texas school bus carrying more than 40 students rolled onto its side after veering off a road while on its way to drop off students after their first day of class, injuring 12 people, authorities said. The bus was carrying 43 people — 42 children and the bus driver — some of whom suffered serious injuries, Austin-Travis County officials said. The incident occurred around 3.15 p.m. Wednesday, when the school bus, traveling south on Nameless Road, veered off the right side of the road 'for an unknown reason' and rolled over, Department of Public Safety Sgt. Billy Ray said at a news conference. The preliminary crash investigation is still ongoing, Ray said. Twelve people were transported to local hospitals. At least one person has life-threatening injuries, while two others have 'potentially life-threatening injuries,' Assistant Chief Kevin Parker, with Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, said during the press conference. The victims have not been named. The driver was among those taken to the hospital, officials said. 'This tragedy this afternoon is really breaking our hearts,' Leander Independent School District Superintendent Bruce Gearing said, noting that the community is still reeling from the floods that devastated the state last month. The bus, a 2024 vehicle equipped with state-regulated seatbelts, was primarily used to transport students from Bagdad Elementary School, Gearing said. No students had been dropped off yet when the bus veered off course, the superintendent added. 'We want each of those students and their families to know that our prayers are with them, our thoughts are with them and we will do everything that we can in our power to support them,' he said. Photos captured the damaged yellow school bus, flipped onto its side next to the rural road, with a broken windshield. Officials said Round Mountain Baptist Church was being used as a reunification site.

Influencer couple 'lost control' and rolled 'many, many times' downhill before tragic death in off-road accident

An influencer couple who died in an off-roading horror crash rolled 'many, many times' as they plunged more than 650 feet down a rocky mountain in Canada. Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans, the pair behind the Toyota World Runners YouTube channel, died on the evening of August 7 in the mountainous area near Trout Lake in British Columbia. The pair garnered more than 200,000 subscribers and more than 72,000 Instagram followers by documenting their explorations through North and South America. They were no strangers to off-roading - making their death even harder to swallow for their loyal fanbase and tight-knit all-terrain community. Rescuers have revealed the harrowing circumstances of their fatal accident. The engaged couple was traveling along a forestry road 'somewhere in the mountains' near Trout Lake, Mark Jennings-Bates, a manager of the Kaslo Search and Rescue (SAR) team that found them, told CBC. Once rescuers arrived on site, responding to reports called in about the accident, one of the victims was already dead. The other was in a critical state, 'disoriented and suffering from serious injuries,' Jennings-Bate said. That individual later died at the hospital. It is unclear if it was Tourout or Yeomans who died at the scene. While the official cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed, investigators believe they likely lost control of the vehicle - causing them to plummet down a mountain. Jennings-Bates estimated they fell about 200 meters - 656 feet - downhill until they slammed into the bottom. They likely rolled 'many, many times' during the terrifying ordeal. He also described the rescue operation as 'challenging' because it was a long uphill journey to get to them, although he said his team did so 'efficiently.' He also noted his team has responded to the many calls in the area where they died, as it is difficult to navigate and rugged. Stacey's mother confirmed the couple's death in a heartbreaking social media post. She wrote they died together in an off-road accident 'in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia that they loved so much.' 'Please keep us and them in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating end to an amazing Love Story,' Colleen Tourout wrote. In light of the devastating loss to their loved ones and the international online community they have built, social media has been flooded with heartfelt tributes, remembering the ambitious duo. 'They were so young and full of life, so talented, and this is a huge loss for our off-road community, their friends and family, and the world,' the creator behind The Story Till Now YouTube channel, Shaun, wrote. He explained that while he never met them in person, he often spoke with Matthew on the phone. Shaun revealed that the last time he had spoken to Matthew was the day before he and his fiancée died. Shaun's jeep broke down, and he was 'trying to figure out how to get it home.' 'We joked about how we would have finally met up the next day if not for my Jeep breaking down, but talked about getting some firm plans on the books for a trip next month. 'They tragically passed away that very next day in an accident, and I'm just devastated over it.' Another off-roading creator, Colin Stuart who runs the Dirt Theory channel, said he was with the couple when the horror unfolded. 'I was with them when it happened and did everything in my power to save them,' he wrote on Facebook. 'Those were the hardest 20 hours I have ever lived. The hardest decisions I have ever had to make. 'I'm sorry to all that this has affected. This is a big loss for the offroad community and a bigger loss to Matthew's and Stacey's family and close friends.' In a tear-jerking obituary written for the couple, they were described as the 'heart and soul' of the off-roading community. Amid this harrowing tragedy, Jennings-Bates has warned people to proceed with caution when it comes to off-roading. Stacey and Mathew's claim to fame was building the 'world's first Land Cruiser Chinook in 100 days,' according to their YouTube bio. The custom vehicle combines the body of a Toyota Chinook camper and a Toyota Land Cruiser to essentially create a camper suitable for off-roading. It is unclear if they were driving the Land Cruiser when the fatal crash occurred. Along with their cruiser adventures, they also documented their many RV retrofits, often combining parts of different vehicles to make them suitable for off-roading. They uploaded their very last YouTube video on July 31, just about a week before they died. In the nearly hour-long segment, the pair documented their off-roading trip across Vancouver Island.
