By Umar's arrest, cops turn the heat on Mukhtar's wife
Umar was arrested for allegedly forging the signatures of his mother to get a high value property transferred to her name. To come clean in the case, either Umar will have to admit that he forged the signatures or confess to have been in touch with Afsha.
Producing Umar before media persons after bringing him to Ghazipur from Lucknow, superintendent of police Iraj Raja said, "Upon the examination of documents submitted in court by Umar and his advocate, Liyaqat Ali, it was found that a fake signature of Afsha Ansari was made to get a high-value property attached in 2021.
A cash reward of Rs 50,000 has already been announced for Afsha, and a lookout notice has been issued to ensure that she does not leave the country.

"An FIR was lodged against Umar and his advocate under sections 319(2) (cheating by personation), 318(4), 338 (forgery), 336(3) (forging documents to cheat), and 340(2) (using forged documents as genuine) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," the SP said.
He said that the proceedings for property confiscation of the former leader of Inter State Gang-191, Mukhtar Ansari, under Section 14(1) of the UP Gangster Act, were initiated on the order of the then district magistrate in Dec 2021, who had rejected the accused's representation and issued a final order on Sep 21, 2023.

"The accused sought relief from the court against this order but was unsuccessful, and the court ordered the property to be vested in the govt on March 3, 2025," he said.
"Despite all these developments, Umar and his advocate attempted to gain undue advantage with ulterior motives by filing a petition before the court using a forged signature of his mother. The value of the seized property is over Rs 10 crore. The accused carried out the forgery to acquire the property by misleading the court, thereby affecting judicial integrity," he said.
With at least six cases, mostly of fraud and cheating, Afsha has been evading arrest since 2022. Booked under the Gangsters Act twice in 2020 and 2022, she did not even turn up to attend the last rites of her husband in March 2024.
The drive to destroy the financial empire of Mukhtar, his family, close associates, and gang members was intensified in 2019-2020. According to police records, by checking illegal earnings, confiscating properties, demolishing buildings, and freezing bank accounts, their financial losses crossed Rs 1000 crore. Maximum losses were suffered by the Mukhtar gang between March 2022 and Feb 2023 when properties worth Rs 112.66 crore were demolished and Rs 181.29 crore were attached, apart from checking illegal earnings of Rs 113 crore, officials said.

Tripura trucker dies after being trapped inside driver's cabin for over 5 hours after accident
A trucker died after allegedly being trapped inside his vehicle for over five hours following an accident on the national highway at Teliamura in Tripura's Khowai district on Tuesday. The Government has started an inquiry and taken action against the subdivisional magistrate and the district collector in connection with the incident. According to witnesses, the front portion of a cement-laden truck that was travelling from Dharmanagar to Agartala collapsed on its driver, Mihir Lal Debnath, who was also the vehicle's owner, in the accident. Debnath cried for help, but a rescue team arrived at the spot hours later, and their iron-cutting machine allegedly failed to operate, further delaying rescue operations. When the officials and others finally pulled him out of the truck's cabin and sent him to a local hospital, the doctors there declared him dead. On Wednesday evening, Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the home portfolio, announced on social media that the Government had suspended the Teliamura subdivisional magistrate with immediate effect and issued a showcause notice to the Khowai district magistrate and collector. A three-member committee headed by the secretary (relief rehabilitation and disaster management) of the revenue department is investigating the tragic incident, he added. Earlier, he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday, 'A probe has been initiated in connection with the unfortunate incident at Teliamura, where a driver tragically lost his life following a mishap. The concerned authorities have been directed to submit a detailed report at the earliest. Appropriate action will be taken if any negligence is found on the part of any individual or authority.' The Government also announced financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh–Rs 4 lakh from the disaster management fund and Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Ministers' Relief Fund–for Mihir Lal Debnath's family. '….We remain firmly committed to justice and to upholding the people's faith in our government,' the chief minister said. Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy and Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma are expected to visit Debnath's home, according to officials.

9 Maoists lay down arms in Bijapur, 6 carried 24L bounty
Raipur: Nine Maoists, including six with a cumulative bounty of Rs 24 lakh, surrendered before police and paramilitary officials in Bijapur district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. The surrendered rebels included members of company number 1, platoon number 12 and 13 of Marh division, as well as members from the technical team of south Bastar division and DGN (Dhamtari-Gariaband-Nuapada) division. Among them were two area committee members, a DAKMS member, and a commander of the Bhoomkal militia. They were identified as Baksu Oyam carrying Rs 8 lakh bounty, active since 2007, a party member of company number 1, Budhram Potam, carrying cash reward of Rs 5 lakh, an ACM of platoon 12, active since 2000, Hidma alias Hiriya worth Rs 5 lakh, ACM of platoon 13, and those carrying Rs 2 lakh bounty were Mangu Uika alias Toggi from South Bastar's technical team, Roshan Karam alias Ajit from Chinnapalli area committee under DGN division and Manglu Podiyam, a party member from Bhairamgarh area committee. The others were DAKMS members Kamlu Hemla and Budhram Hemla, and Pandru Punem alias Padkhuta, Bhoomkal militia commander of Mankeli, active since 1997. The cadres cited disillusionment with the ideology, internal conflict within the organisation, and aspiration for a peaceful family life as key reasons for leaving the insurgency. Cops attach over 35 vehicles in drive
Lucknow: A day after announcing multiple no parking zones in the city, Lucknow Police on Wednesday launched enforcement drives, attaching over 35 vehicles. "In the East Zone, a vehicle checking campaign under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act led to the attaching of 35 vehicles, including eight buses, minibuses and 27 two-wheelers. These vehicles were found without proper documentation during surprise checks at Kamta and Polytechnic crossings," said Lucknow police. The operation was carried out under the direction of police commissioner Amarendra Kumar Sengar and joint commissioner of police (Law and order) Babloo Kumar, with additional commissioner of police (East) Pankaj Kumar Singh overseeing the drive. "A total fine of Rs 26,500 was collected during the drive," police said. The traffic police, in coordination with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), had on Tuesday declared a no-parking enforcement drive across eight major zones of the city from Aug 6. The aim is to ease traffic congestion and deal with growing complaints of illegal parking in busy areas. As part of the campaign, 16 cranes will be used to tow vehicles found parked in no-parking zones. These vehicles will be taken to designated dumping yards set up at enforcement booths in each zone. Officials said the drive is being carried out in commercial and high-traffic areas where illegal parking often causes roadblocks and traffic jams.
