Ravi Kishan doesn't need any introduction. A superstar in the Bhojpuri cinema, he has also worked extensively in Hindi films as well as Telugu and Kannada films. Though he did not play a lead role in those films, as a supporting actor too, Ravi left his mark on the audience.
Ravi Kishan is a massive star in Bhojpuri cinema, and he himself admitted once that he does Bollywood roles for 'personal satisfaction'. In an interview with IANS, the actor once shared, 'In Bhojpuri cinema, I have to play larger than life roles. Here (in Bollywood) I can play smaller characters. I do this for my own personal satisfaction. I get to play different shades. Right from Tere Naam, I have done different characters.'
Ravi Kishan has indeed played many interesting roles in Bollywood. On Ravi Kishan's birthday, here's a look at some of his impactful roles over the years. Scroll to see a list:
Laapataa Ladies (2024)

Kiran Rao's film won many hearts and also set the box office on fire, and Ravi Kishan's role in the film just cannot be missed. The actor played the role of Inspector Shyam Manohar, a quirky yet sharp-witted police officer in rural India. While he appears comical and carefree on the surface, he's actually clever and observant. He was the one who gradually unraveling the mystery of the 'missing brides'. Ravi Kishan well portrayed a role which needed a perfect balance of humor and sincerity, making it one of the standout performances in the film.
Phir Hera Pheri (2006)
Ravi Kishan plays the character named Chhote, who was one half of the comic gangster duo 'Chhote and Babu Bhaiya', working for the main villain Tiwari (played by Sharat Saxena). Ravi Kishan's character in the film was loud, over-the-top, and comically threatening, perfectly fitting the film's slapstick tone. Ravi Kishan did not have a major role in the film but he appears in several hilarious sequences involving guns, ransom, and mistaken identities. Ravi Kishan's exaggerated acting and comic timing left a memorable impression. His chemistry with Manoj Joshi (as Babu Bhaiya) and interactions with the central trio (Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal) added extra flavor to the film's final, confusion-filled scenes.
Tere Naam (2003)
Ravi Kishan played the role of Aslam, a close friend of the main character Radhe, portrayed by Salman Khan. Ravi Kishan's character was a part of Radhe's small group of loyal friends. He provides emotional and moral support during Radhe's tumultuous love story and downward spiral. His character reflected Radhe's bond with his community and highlights the strong friendship themes in the film. In Tere Naam too, the actor was not the lead role but his role stood out.
Luck (2009)
Ravi Kishan plays the grey character with remarkable ease in this film. His character was named Raghav Raghuvaran, also referred to as Raghu. Ravi Kishan's bold and edgy performance stood out in a film filled with action and suspense. His role brought raw energy and unpredictability, earning him praise for holding his own alongside stars like Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, and Mithun Chakraborty.
Bullet Raja (2013)
In this film, Ravi Kishan played the role of Sumer Yadav, a local politician and one of the key antagonists in the film. He is part of the corrupt political-criminal nexus that the main characters—Raja Mishra (Saif Ali Khan) and Rudra (Jimmy Shergill)—come into conflict with. He was cunning and ambitious, power-hungry, and played a critical role in escalating the gang wars and political rivalries that form the heart of the film's plot. Though he was again not the lead, but Ravi Kishan brought a strong screen presence and his performance added intensity and realism to the gritty world of politics, betrayal, and crime depicted in the film.
Batla House (2019)
Ravi Kishan played the role of Inspector KK (Kishan Kumar Verma), a brave, no-nonsense, and duty-bound officer. His role is crucial in the early part of the film, especially during the intense encounter sequence, which is the film's central event. Though his screen time is limited, Ravi Kishan's performance was powerful and emotionally resonant.
Ravi is known for his ability to play a variety of roles, from comic to negative characters, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Here's wishing a very happy birthday to the actor!

Kishore Kumar initially refused to sing my composition, reveals Anup Jalota: ‘He said tum kuchh classical bana doge'

The late legendary actor-singer Kishore Kumar and 'bhajan samrat' Anup Jalota belong to different schools of music. While the former is as mainstream as it gets, the latter is more steeped in classical music and devotional songs. However, they've worked together in a couple of films. In fact, Jalota was known as 'junior Kishore' in college. 'During my college days in Lucknow, I used to sing film songs. My voice sounded a little similar to Kishore da's. It still does today. When I sing Kishore da's songs today, people find that tone and find it very comforting to listen to,' said Jalota. The 71-year-old singer studied music at Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow. In the interview with The Lallantop, Anup Jalota recalled telling Kishoare Kumar that he was known as 'junior Kishore' in college, when he visited the singer at his home in Mumbai. Jalota had approached Kumar then to sing in two Hindi films that he was composing for — Ram Govind's Patton Ki Baazi (1986) and Tohfa Mohabbat Ka (1988), starring Govinda. 'When I reached his place, Kishore da said, 'I won't sing your songs.' I asked why. He said, 'Tum kuchh classical-vassical bana doge (You'll make something classical).' I've heard you're trained in classical music.' I said, 'No, I've made a song as per your style.' When I made him listen to it, it felt like Kishore has only sung it. So then he said, 'This is my song. I'll only sing it.' And then he did, wholeheartedly,' recalled Jalota. Anup Jalota also hailed Kishore Kumar as a 'great actor,' which also reflected in his singing. 'He was a master at both serious acting and comedy. That mood also reflected in his singing. He was always in a fun mood. He loved comedy. He used to pull the leg of the director or the producer, whoever would come to the recording,' said Jalota. Jalota recalled recording a song composed by Hridaynath Mangeshkar, in which he was singing alongside Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan, and Ravindra Sathe. 'Kishore ji whispered into my ears, 'You guys will sing this one very well. What would I do here? Don't tell anyone, I'm leaving.' He sneaked out quietly. When Hridaynath ji asked Kishore ji to start singing, I told him he left. He was like that. He knew he'd explain it later that the other four sing better than him,' said Jalota. Aneet Padda Is Overwhelmed By Alia Bhatt's Praise For Saiyaara, Calls Her 'Hero'

Last Updated: The young actress took to Instagram to share her emotional reaction to Alia's words, calling her 'forever hero'. Aneet Padda is winning hearts with her role in Saiyaara. She was left speechless after receiving praise from none other than superstar Alia Bhatt. The young actress took to Instagram to share her emotional reaction to Alia's words, calling her 'forever hero". Taking to her Instagram stories, Aneet Padda shared Alia Bhatt's post and wrote, 'I wish I could gather every moment of inspiration, love, awe, possibility, wonder and imagination that I've experienced because of you; put it in a box and give it to you. Alia Bhatt, my hero. Forever and ever and ever." The Love And War actress had written a long post and praised the debutants. Taking to his Instagram stories, Arjun shared a post reading 'What a film'. In the background we can hear the music of Saiyaara. On Saturday, July 19, Saiyaara, recorded an overall 44.74% Hindi occupancy, indicating growing audience interest. The day began with 28.14% occupancy during morning shows, which increased significantly by the afternoon to 50.67%, and further rose in the evening with 55.40% occupancy. Backed by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara is making waves not just for its impressive box office numbers but also for its unexpected promotional playbook. What makes Saiyaara's strong opening even more surprising is that neither Ahaan nor Aneet had any major visibility before the release. For director Mohit Suri, this could be the comeback he's been waiting for since Ek Villain, which was made on a Rs 39 crore budget and grossed Rs 155 crore worldwide. Earlier, filmmaker Mahesh had said, 'Every generation has love story that defines it. Saiyaara, to me, will be the most definitive romantic film of this generation. When I made Aashiqui, I did it with a lot of purity and I was fortunate that people connected to it deeply and made the two newcomers into overnight stars. I expect Mohit Suri to do the same with Saiyaara." With strong weekend momentum and positive word of mouth, Saiyaara is looking at a strong Sunday and a solid opening weekend total. On the work front, Alia Bhatt is currently busy with the shooting of Alpha and Love And War. First Published: July 20, 2025, 10:53 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Saiyaara Box Office Collection Day 2: Next Stop For Ahaan Panday And Aneet Padda's Film

New Delhi: Mohit Suri's romantic drama Saiyaara is turning out to be one of the biggest surprises of the year. What's Happening Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara has now become the highest-grossing Hindi film led by debutants. On Saturday, Saiyaara collected Rs 24 crore at the domestic box office, slightly higher than its opening day total of Rs 21 crore. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film's two-day total stands at Rs 45 crore. Based on its current momentum, Saiyaara is expected to cross the Rs 50 crore mark on Sunday. In just two days, the film has surpassed the collections of several big-name releases, including Rajkummar Rao's Maalik (Rs 23.27 crore), Shahid Kapoor's Deva (Rs 33.97 crore), Kajol's Maa (Rs 38.51 crore), and John Abraham's The Diplomat (Rs 40.73 crore). It is also on track to overtake Anurag Basu's Metro... In Dino (Rs 48.47 crore). Additionally, Saiyaara has outperformed the re-release collections of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs 22.04 crore) and Sanam Teri Kasam (Rs 35.55 crore), both of which signalled a renewed interest in romantic films among audiences. Saiyaara, too, appears to be part of this trend. Background The film's performance is especially notable considering its lead pair did not participate in traditional promotions ahead of release. Director Mohit Suri explained the decision, comparing it to the approach taken with his 2013 film Aashiqui 2, which also featured relatively fresh faces at the time, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. "It was an idea that collectively came forward. My producer Akshaye Widhani and, of course, Aditya Chopra (owner of Yash Raj Films), who has mentored us through this thing, suggested that until the two actors don't have anything behind them to talk about, the conversation will be filled with questions like 'Who is the prankster on the set?' or 'How is it to work with Mohit Suri?' It's all redundant stuff, and I don't think anyone has any interest in listening to all that," Suri said in an interview on the YouTube channel Just Too Filmy. While Saiyaara marks Ahaan Panday's on-screen debut, it is Aneet Padda's first feature film appearance. She previously gained attention for her performance in the Prime Video India series Big Girls Don't Cry last year.
