Three cheap and fun ways to get the kids involved with gardening this summer
But you can use your outdoor areas to help turn youngsters into keen little gardeners.
7
It won't cost much and it's a guilt-free way of getting them busy, plus they'll reap the benefits of being out in nature.
Here's how.
GET CLUED UP: Dobbies garden centres run free gardening workshops for kids. The one-hour Little Seedlings sessions take place at weekends and there are extra sessions during school holidays.
Youngsters will learn all about different aspects of plants, for example, August's theme is prehistoric plants that are still found in gardens today.
And there is a special holiday club workshop exploring summer scents where those taking part can make their own petal perfume.
Dates and times vary by store. Book online at events.dobbies.com.
CRAFTY: If you have a load of old plant pots, get your kids to give them a new lease of life by decorating them.
They can use acrylic paints or marker pens. Ask them to paint flowers or just bright colours to stand out.
Another option is rock painting. Gather a few large stones and children can paint as they like. You could try animals such as ladybirds, hedgehogs and snails.
'I was quoted £10,000 for a garden renovation but did it MYSELF for £1,000 using ChatGPT to show my kids what single mums can do'
Or ask them to write out plant names on the stones then use them as markers.
GET PLANTING: Once you have a few pots or a spare area in the garden, get planting with kids.
Look for plants that will attract butterflies to help children spot wildlife in the garden.
And select plants with different scents, textures and colours.
Try lavender, which is affordable, easy to look after and has a calming scent.
It will also attract wildlife such as butterflies and bees. Contrast with bright flowers such as geraniums.
Or sunflowers are great for planting with kids as they watch them grow and see how high they can get.

Sainsbury's launches huge baby clothes sale with prices starting from 90p
SAINSBURY'S has launched a huge baby clothes sale and some of the products cost just 90. The brand's sale has seen them halve the cost of some of their products and some of them are perfect for summer holidays. 4 Sainsbury's has a massive collection of clothes, available through its fashion brand Tu. Their babywear is particularly popular and the supermarket has slashed the price of many of its products as part of a massive sale. Its collection of bibs - which can read 'I love you mummy' or 'daddy' - now cost just £1.50, after a 50 per cent price reduction. However, some products now cost even less than that. The My First Holiday T-shirt is perfect for vacations with your baby and costs just 90p. Other products in the sale include animal themed leggings, which come in a variety of colours and designs. The blue leggings have elephants printed on them, while the yellow pairs have giraffes included on their design. The leggings, which can also have apple designs on them, cost £1.50. Sainsbury's is also selling baby bodysuits with the flags of UK nations, including the Welsh and Scottish flags. There are several more expensive products in the range too, with Sainsbury's halving the price of its baby sleeping bags from £30 to just £15. The baby sale is part of a wider Tu promotion, which is slashing the costs of some of its menswear and womenswear too. Tu regularly goes viral for its low-cost, high-quality clothes. One dress in particular went viral on TikTok, after Sainsbury's slashed the price to £15. The White Structured Midaxi Summer Dress is perfect for brunches or sight seeing abroad and comes in a lightweight cotton. It has a structured bodice and flared hem to create a classic shape. On the product's official description, it says: "This white dress is an elegant choice for summer outings. 'Designed with a structured bodice and a flared hem for a flattering shape. "Cut to a midaxi length, it has been made from a lightweight, cotton-rich fabric, perfect for warmer days." 4

Lottie Moss reveals nightmare British Airways flight and exclaims she's had the 'worst experience' as she returns home from St. Tropez trip
Lottie Moss has detailed her nightmare flight after she landed in London Stansted on Saturday evening. The socialite and half-sister of Kate Moss took to her Instagram to update her followers about the mishap that happened on her way back from St. Tropez in the south of France. Supermodel Lottie, 27, tagged British Airways in her Story, where she appeared to be complaining about the airline. She explained how she was feeling worse for wear after going out five nights in a row and was still stressed as her luggage had yet to arrive on time. Wearing oversized sunglasses in her video, Lottie began: 'I cannot explain to you - please ignore my voice, I've been literally out every night for the past five nights in St Tropez - but, I've had the worst experience with British Airways today, I cannot even tell you. 'My journey starts at 8am and it's literally not even finished yet because the bags haven't arrived. The plane was four hours late.' Lottie went on to share how when the flight landed, passengers had to wait for a further 25 minutes before they were allowed off the flight. She continued: 'We landed, sat on the tarmac here for like, 25 minutes, and the bags still aren't here. It doesn't say awaiting baggage, it doesn't say baggage completed.' Visibly agitated, she added: 'I'm gonna lose my f**king mind.' Daily Mail has contacted British Airways for comment. Lottie was holidaying in the French Riviera alongside Love Island's Grace Jackson and model Roxy Horner. She was there on a brand trip for Bydee swimwear, and flashed her sensational physique in a jaw-dropping mirror selfie. The stylish bikini snaps come after it was reported earlier this month that former Only Fans creator Lottie is using her personal diaries to write a biography about her childhood and turbulent life in the spotlight. Lottie will not hold back as she reflects on her battles with alcohol and substance abuse issues, according to the Sun. It's understood that she has kept written and video diaries since she was a teenager and will be using them to reference her colourful past. An insider said: 'Lottie has always been known as Kate's little sister — but this is her chance to tell her side of the story. 'She has kept written and video diaries since she was a teenager, so will be compiling all her scribbles and memories into the book. 'Lottie is excited to tell the truth about her struggles with body image, addiction and relationships.'
