Day after Uddhav-CM meet, Eknath Shinde accuses Sena UBT chief of ‘backstabbing' Fadnavis in 2019

After two consecutive days of bonhomie between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde on Friday accused Uddhav of 'backstabbing' Fadnavis and 'trying to get him arrested'.
'We are the witness to how Devendraji was abused. The people had voted (in 2019) to Shiv Sena and BJP. But you backstabbed Devendra ji. I know how many phones did Devendra ji do after the results, but it was never answered. Everyone has to pay for their deeds here itself,' said Shinde.
He was speaking at the legislative council while replying to the discussion on last week's motion moved by the Opposition.
Shinde's remarks came at a time when Fadnavis and Uddhav were seen exchanging cordial greetings to each other. On Wednesday. Fadnavis offered former ally Uddhav to join the Mahayuti while on Thursday both the leaders spent around 20-minutes chatting behind closed doors without the presence of any other leader.
Shinde went on to claim that while Fadnavis gave away the Mumbai mayor post to Shiv Sena in 2017, Uddhav paid him back with betrayal.
'Devendra ji was challenged (by Uddhav) by saying either it will be you or me. It was then that I decided to act.. .even Devendraji would be smiling now seeing the present developments,' he added, referring to the recent meetings between the two.
The deputy CM claimed that Uddhav hated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and therefore did not attend the programme where Modi was conferred with first Lata Mangeshkar award.
'I don't mess with people, but I do not leave those who mess with me,' he said.
Uddhav had termed the MNS as a party which was over during one of the poll campaigns. Referring to this, Shinde took a dig on the possible alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) saying that 'some are desperate to go with those whom they once called as finished'.

PIL in SC seeks FIR against Raj, MNS workers for ‘mob violence'

Mumbai: A public interest litigation filed in the seeks registration of an FIR against (MNS) leader and his party workers for indulging in "mob violence" by assaulting people from other states who are unable to speak Marathi and urges that such illegal activities need to be curbed with an iron hand. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It also seeks the derecognition of MNS. "Such activities of Raj Thackeray and his so-called political workers, if not stopped forthwith, will in no time assume the character of complete lawlessness. Resultantly, people will be prone to take the law into their own hands, which would be inconceivable in a civilised society that respects the rule of law," states advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay. Citing the April 16 and 17 GRs that introduced Hindi as a third language in primary schools, Upadhyay in his petition states that Thackeray, "in desperation to occupy some seats" in the forthcoming BMC elections, decided to "encash the opportunity". He has been making "fiery speeches" against Hindi-speaking people from UP, Bihar, MP and Rajasthan who settled in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai, Thane and Pune. His speeches "instigate people to come on the street, and something which started as opposing Hindi has led to Marathi being imposed on people who do not speak Marathi or have come from other states". Following withdrawals of the GRs, at a July 5 rally, Thackeray "justified that people who do not speak Marathi should be hit below their eardrums". At his instance, his "goons/political workers" were assaulting and beating up such people and even dismantling/destroying their business establishments/shops, etc. After a Rajasthani businessman from Mira Bhayander was beaten up, Thackeray "publicly proclaimed these are trailers. .." Upadhyay alleges Thackeray's "love for Marathi is seasonal". Upadhyay further states that "Raj Thackeray thinks that by invoking Marathi pride, he and Uddhav Thackeray could do wonders by consolidating Marathi votes" for winning BMC elections. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The love and affection of Raj Thackeray is not for the Marathi language but with an eye on Mumbai municipal corporation elections, and these tantrums are blown out of proportion with an oblique and ulterior motive of gaining advantage" in the elections. Stating that since acts of Thackeray and his party workers constitute cognisable offences, including "endangering the sovereignty, integrity, and unity of India," on July 10, Upadhyay wrote to the PM, home minister, Maharashtra chief minister, Election Commission of India, and State Election Commission to ensure an FIR is forthwith registered and MNS's recognition is withdrawn. "However, no action was taken. .. with the result that people were living under the constant shadow of fear of being assaulted, beaten up, insulted, and humiliated by Raj Thackeray and his political workers." Therefore, he said, he approached the SC.

No point in MVA parties allying if we're to repeat state poll mess-up: Uddhav

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said mistakes were made by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) while allocating seats for the assembly elections. He said that instead of calling this lack of coordination, they had to accept that the success achieved during Lok Sabha elections "went to the heads of some people. " He appeared worried about MVA's future, saying if they want to repeat the same mistake, there was no point in coming together. Congress politician Vijay Wadettiwar agreed with Uddhav and said arrogance and internal disarray within the opposition cost its dear. Thackeray said that the struggle over seat-sharing had continued in the MVA ahead of the state polls until the last day, and its effect was that a bad message was sent to people. Thackeray also criticised the Election Commission (EC), calling it a "dhondya" stone that is revered by people. Thackeray said he didn't blame anyone for the assembly election defeat. "Basically, Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP were staunch opponents of each other until the MVA was formed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The important thing is that during the election period, there was a fight over slogans. You give Rs 2,100, we give Rs 2,500, we give Rs 3,000. If you do this, we will do this. In that, we could not tell the people about the good works we did when we were in govt," Thackeray said. Uddhav stated the Thackeray brand was about struggle for the people, starting from his grandfather Prabodhankar Thackeray, father Balasaheb Thackeray, himself, and son Aaditya Thackeray. Now, Raj Thackeray has come together, he said, indicating the alliance with Raj was on the cards. Uddhav said people had wondered ahead of the assembly polls that if there is so much struggle going on between them (MVA partners) now, what would happen later. He added that during the Lok Sabha polls, MVA allies left seats for each other with the common objective of winning elections, but this didn't happen in the assembly polls. Thackeray demanded that polls be held on ballot paper. "Why were EVMs introduced? To save time for counting votes. If voting was held in Maharashtra on May 1 and in Bihar on May 30, then the time in between has passed, right? If it takes four days more for counting of votes, what will happen? In America and Europe, voting is done on ballot papers. Are those countries more backward than us? PM Modi himself has also spoken against EVMs. BJP members should listen to it once," Thackeray said. Thackeray also opposed the Maharashtra Special Public Security Act, saying there was no clarity in the bill. "Will this bill stop atrocities on women or stop the looting of people? It starts with what is the hardline left wing. What is leftist ideology? There is no problem in ending Naxalism and terrorism, but there is no clarity in this public security bill," he said. "Remember one thing, no matter how much theft is done, the EC can give the Shiv Sena's election symbol to someone else or freeze it. EC does not have that right. Because the name Shiv Sena was given by my grandfather and my father. If tomorrow I change the name of the EC, do I have the right? But after changing my name, I will call him Dhondya. That Dhondya does not have the right to change the name of the party. If we have behaved in a democratic way, you can remove the symbol, but according to the Constitution, if we have not done anything wrong, they cannot remove our symbol. But those who are throwing vermilion on that Dhondya are sitting in Delhi, it is working," Thackeray said.

Awhad's slogans instigated Padalkar before scuffle in assembly: Gorhe

Pune: The state legislative council's deputy chairperson, Neelam Gorhe, on Saturday said NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad's slogans instigated BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar before the scuffle between their supporters on Thursday on the assembly premises, referring to a govt report on the incident. Gorhe said, "The report on the incident has been submitted in the assembly. It mentions that Awhad was seen shouting some slogans aiming at Padalkar, which instigated him. In any case, such kind of behaviour within the premises of the assembly is not acceptable." Interacting with reporters in Pune a day after the monsoon session ended, Gorhe expressed disappointment over the scuffle. The senior Shiv Sena member said, "This is the first time I experienced such a thing happening on the assembly premises. There is a norm that nobody should be shouting on the assembly premises, but the SOP (standard operating procedure) was not followed." Following Speaker Rahul Narvekar's statement, both Awhad and Padalkar tendered apologies in the assembly on Friday. Gorhe, the deputy chairperson of the legislative council, pointed out that she had taken action against Padalkar in the past for his misconduct. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo "Whenever I feel that somebody is at fault in the assembly, I speak out. I punished Padalkar for misconduct and did not allow him to participate in discussions in the council for a day earlier. After that punishment, I saw some improvement in him," she said. Reacting to speculations over Thackeray cousins reuniting ahead of the civic polls, Shiv Sena's senior member Gorhe said both politicians were senior and she was a common Shiv Sainik. "Both Uddhav and Raj are seniors, but Eknath Shinde continued on the path of Balasaheb Thackeray. Be it Article 370 or Ram Temple issue, Shinde has followed the Hindutva path," Gorhe added. Replying to the "honey trap" allegation of the MVA members against some bureaucrats and former ministers of the state, Gorhe said, "If the opposition members have any evidence regarding the honey trap issue, they should present it in the court."
