Fake call centre busted in Noida, 12 who cheated foreigners held
Cops said the gang has cheated over 150 people so far.
Officials said the call centre had been operating since May 3 from the 17th floor of JP Cosmos building. The gang targeted Americans using phishing emails and extracted money through gift cards on the pretext of processing fees for loans and vouchers.
The mastermind, Mustafa Sheikh (25), is a resident of Mumbai. Other arrested accused are Chance (22) of Delhi; Dinesh Pandey (49) of Darjeeling; Sohil Ajmil (27), Kalpesh Sharma (34), and Aftab Qureshi (34) of Ahmedabad; Umar Samsi (44) of Mumbai; Vidov (31) of Manipur; Ram Sevak (27) and Satyanarayan Mandal (35) of Madhubani, Bihar; and Thijno Luto (20) and Nibule Akami (22) of Nagaland.

"Police received a tip-off about a fake call centre. A team led by ACP Twinkle Jain raided the premises on Monday night and arrested 12 people," said DCP (Noida) Yamuna Prasad.
During interrogation, Sheikh revealed that he had rented the office space in JP Cosmos for Rs 50,000 per month. He had hired the rest of the accused on salaries ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 40,000. "He used to purchase data of American citizens from Google and send them phishing emails in bulk," the DCP said.

The accused induced the complainant to deposit the cash into a cash deposit machine and later withdrew the amount themselves,' the officer said without giving details about the criminal's modus operandi. A case under relevant sections of the BNS was registered and investigation was launched. The team scanned CCTV footage from the ATM and identified one of the accused as Dharmender. He added that police traced Dharmender to his residence in Madanpur Khadar, from where he was arrested. During interrogation, he revealed the identities of his accomplices who were also present at the house at the time of the raid. 'All three were apprehended and confessed to their involvement in the ATM fraud. On their instance, police recovered Rs 75,000 in cash and 30 ATM cards from different banks,' the officer said. The accused admitted to targeting ATM users, often tricking them during deposit or withdrawal transactions by posing as helpful bystanders. YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy arrested in Rs 3,200-crore liquor scam in Andhra
Amaravati, Jul 19 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh police on Saturday arrested YSRCP Lok Sabha member PV Midhun Reddy in the alleged Rs 3,200-crore liquor scam during the previous YSRCP regime. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged liquor scam grilled Midhun Reddy for several hours today and followed it up with his arrest at around 7.30 pm in Vijayawada. 'Yes (he has been arrested). The process (to produce him before a court) is going on," Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha told PTI over phone. Midhun Reddy represents Rajampet constituency in Andhra Pradesh. The YSRCP leader arrived in Vijayawada earlier today to attend the probe and his questioning comes in the wake of the arrest of other accused persons–Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy and Balaji Govindappa. Meanwhile, the opposition party slammed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly indulging in vindictive behaviour and foisting 'false' cases against people close to YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Rights panel to hear Rourkela girl drowning case
Rourkela: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will hold a hearing in Bhubaneswar on Monday regarding the drowning of a seven-year-old girl, Sarun Badaik, into an unprotected underground tank in an affordable housing colony here on May 28. NHRC will hear the case following a complaint by human rights activist Saarat Jena, who described the incident as a murder due to systemic negligence involving the contractor and senior officials associated with the housing project. Deputy secretary in the home department has instructed the collector and district magistrate of Sundargarh to attend the NHRC's camp sitting.
