Pick your Tottenham player of the season

Yahoo23-05-2025

We asked our Tottenham fan contributor for their four candidates for player of the season and you can now select your top one.
Lucas Bergvall
Bergvall has more than lived up to the promise he showed in pre-season. Not only has he excelled on and off the ball, he has never stopped striving for the win. When more seasoned professionals around him have struggled to lead the team, this young player has risen to the challenge.

Dejan Kulusevski
Deki had a particularly strong start to the campaign and is integral to our pressing style and ball retention. Don't let his time out with injury shorten your memory - the Swede's statistics speak volumes as to his dominance in a Spurs shirt this season.
Djed Spence
A breath of fresh air and a much-needed injection of hope, Spence's performances this season have demonstrated what it means to play without fear. He has been a joy to watch as he took on the opposition with courage and creativity, driving us up the pitch at home and in Europe.
Dominic Solanke
The engine of our team, Solanke simply never gives up. Even when heads behind him in midfield have dropped, he has kept running, kept pressing, kept trying. Some will criticise the number of goals scored, but no-one should underestimate the crucial work Solanke has done off the ball for us this season.

Honourable mentions
Brennan Johnson still receives a mixed reception from some of the Spurs faithful, but you can't argue with his impressive goal contributions this season – not only the number, but the significance of some of the goals too. As for Archie Gray, what an outstanding first season from him - and in an unfamiliar position. Thrown in at the deep end, at times he outperformed his more experienced peers. To dare is to do, indeed.

Postecoglou's time at the top 'not finished'

Ange Postecoglou has gone and although sorry, I am not even slightly surprised - it has been an awful domestic season for Spurs. I do not however think Ange's time at the top is finished, though he might have to look for a progressive continental club to reignite his career. Advertisement His CV is very good and that Europa League triumph for Spurs can never be taken away. He could also argue that his methods and style were hampered by a lack of backing in the transfer market. You cannot play high tempo 'Ange Ball' unless you have a very deep squad with real quality, youth and energy in reserve. The players he wanted and needed could not be acquired by the club. Had he got Conor Gallagher as he wanted, it could have made a huge difference. Gallagher was born for 'Ange Ball' and would have helped everyone else around lift their game. There is also the fact that Postecoglou wanted to buy Eberechi Eze and got Timo Werner on loan instead. I was going to explain this disparity further but if you know football at all, you have got the point already. I think Ange's ideals mirror the way the game is evolving. His coaching ethos is closer to Paris St-Germain than those languishing in the past overplaying post-Pep landscape. Advertisement Of course, this idea will be laughed at right now, but I recall being one of very few that thought Manchester United were mad to get rid of David Moyes. Spurs have lost a good coach, a far better one than most people think he is just now. Sign up to read more from Pat Nevin in his Football Extra newsletter

Arsenal to play all WSL home games at Emirates

Arsenal's highest WSL attendance at the Emirates last season was 56,748 against Tottenham in February [Getty Images] Arsenal will stage all 11 of their Women's Super League home matches at Emirates Stadium in the 2025-26 season. The Gunners made the Emirates their main home last season, hosting nine WSL games there with an average attendance of 34,110. Advertisement Arsenal, who became European champions in Lisbon last month, will start the defence of their Women's Champions League title at Meadow Park - their longstanding home which will stage all of their league phase games in the competition's new format. Should they progress to the knockout stage, matches from that point onwards would be played at the 60,704-capacity Emirates. All of Arsenal's domestic cup home games will be played at Meadow Park in Borehamwood, but the WSL games will have the bigger stage throughout. "For us, this is just the beginning, and bringing every WSL match to the Emirates is another step for more supporters to be part of this special journey," said Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers. Advertisement Arsenal said they sold more than 415,000 tickets in the 2024-25 season, recording a 20% increase on the previous campaign. With their WSL home matches to be played at the Emirates, the club will introduce a season ticket for the stadium for the women's team for the first time. Arsenal Women Supporters' Club said: "We are delighted to hear that all WSL home games will be played at Emirates Stadium next season. "This allows more people than ever to experience a WSL matchday and help Arsenal to build on the success we achieved in Lisbon." Aston Villa and Leicester City hosted all their home WSL games at their main club grounds last season - Villa Park and King Power Stadium respectively. Advertisement It was recently announced Goodison Park will become the home of Everton's women next season after the club scrapped plans to demolish the 132-year-old stadium. With the men's side moving to their new 53,000-seater arena at Bramley-Moore Dock this summer, the 39,572-capacity Goodison Park will become the largest dedicated women's football stadium in England.

All-Star forward reportedly expects to be traded to the San Antonio Spurs this summer

The San Antonio Spurs entered the offseason focused on finding high-end talent to start building a playoff-caliber team around Victor Wembanyama. While the second pick in the 2025 NBA Draft might be the primary avenue to upgrade the roster, at least one All-Star thinks he'll be playing in San Antonio next season. According to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports' Burns & Gambo, Durant told someone close to him that he believes he'll wind up playing for the Spurs next season. While the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors have also been linked as potential landing spots, the All-Star forward seems to believe San Antonio is his likeliest destination. Related: Promising Spurs news on Victor Wembanyama recovery Kevin Durant contract (Spotrac): $54.708 million cap hit in 2025-'26 The incentive for the Spurs is obvious. While Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is the superior talent, he still hasn't requested a trade and some teams now doubt he will. Even if he did, the cost of acquiring him would essentially drain out the Spurs' collection of draft picks and young assets. Advertisement Instead, San Antonio can keep the second overall pick to draft guard Dylan Harper and instead offer Phoenix a deal involving future draft picks or the 14th overall pick. It's a far more cost-effective avenue to upgrade the roster and with Durant on an expiring deal, it also provides the club more long-term flexibility.
