England's Tuchel refuses to 'sugarcoat' criticism after dire display against Andorra
Thomas Tuchel says his England players are fully aware they under-performed in their 1-0 victory over minnows Andorra on Saturday and that he has no need to "sugarcoat" criticism.
England came under fire for their sloppy performance in the World Cup qualifier in Barcelona, where Harry Kane scored the only goal early in the second half.
They were booed after struggling to break down a team ranked 173rd in the world even though they extended Tuchel's winning start to three games.
"I think there was commonsense straight after in the dressing room," Tuchel told reporters on Monday, on the eve of a friendly against Senegal in Nottingham.
"We all shared the same feeling. We have to look at the side, we created an xG of four. If you look at the sides who played Andorra, we had more xG than them but failed to convert chances, being clinical and our efficiency, accuracy in our chances.
"We underperformed clearly in the physical input in the game which you could see on the sideline and the data. We didn't run enough."
The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss admitted the performance did not match the standards he has been trying to set since he took over as England boss at the start of the year.
"I protect my players, I said no names of players," he said. "We as a team didn't match our standards.
"I didn't like the last 10 minutes, I felt on the sidelines. We didn't play seriously enough to win it in the end and what we needed to do in a World Cup qualifier.
"Everything I say here I say to the players, why should I sugarcoat? There is no harm done, we can have criticism and I believe a group of players in football can speak honestly to each other.
"I always include myself in that now it's on us to do better. The attitude towards training and the camp and commitment is outstanding. Everybody wanted to be there and be involved, they wanted to start and wanted to play. We will analyse and try to do better."

Ngidi confident of strong showing at WTC final owing to past success at Lord's
New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): South Africa's right-arm seamer Lungi Ngidi said that he is very confident that his team will perform brilliantly at the Lord's during the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final as the Proteas have won a lot of matches at this venue in the past. Playing at Lord's extracts 'fond memories' for much of the South African stars setting themselves for the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia starting from June 11. Here's what happened at Lord's in August 2022, when SA sealed a famous Test win over England. It was described as a 'thumping victory'. The Proteas beat the hosts by an innings and 12 runs, off the back of a five-wicket haul from Kagiso Rabada in the first innings, earning Player of the Match honours. South Africa claimed victory inside three days - a result which looms large as they set their sights on elusive ICC silverware in the World Test Championship Final, at that very venue on Wednesday. This time, the Proteas will take on Australia, the defending World Test Champions. But they are drawing on the 2022 experience to help them build confidence ahead of this new challenge. Lungi Ngidi was one of the Proteas players who played in a Test win at Lord's in 2022, opening the attack alongside Rabada. '(There were) very fond memories of the last time we were here. I think we bring a lot of confidence, especially having played on the wicket (previously). (But) we know Australia have played a lot of cricket here as well. But I think we bring a lot of confidence knowing that we have won a game at Lord's, we have played Test cricket at Lord's,' Ngidi said as per an ICC release. 'I think we bring a lot of confidence, especially having played on the wicket (previously). (But) we know Australia have played a lot of cricket here as well. But I think we bring a lot of confidence knowing that we have won a game at Lord's, we have played Test cricket at Lord's. A lot of people talk about the slope for bowlers and things like that, we've seen our bowlers perform out there, our batters have scored the runs, so a lot of confidence,' he added. South Africans who are playing in their first Test at Lord's have spent lead-up days taking in the ground's aura to ensure they're laser-focused once the opening day arrives. David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs revealed that entering the historic ground was a moment they won't easily forget, as they laid eyes on the venue's recognisable features, like the balcony where teams nervously watch from. 'The first time we got there, everyone was on the balcony with their phones out,' Bedingham said. 'The pavilion, the history. You watch games from the past, (players) watching from the balcony,' Stubbs added. Ngidi's bowling will prove pivotal for the challengers at Lord's. He's soaking it all in. 'It's any cricketer's dream to play at Lord's. I've been blessed with the opportunity before, playing England. That was quite something for me - the nerves, the excitement. But coming back, this time around, the nerves are a lot more settled,' Ngidi continued. 'Obviously a big title on the line, but the beautiful thing about Test cricket is the process remains pretty much the same. It's very exciting, Lord's is a beautiful ground - the atmosphere and the crowd as well. I really enjoy how the crowd interacts with the players. So, very exciting,' the spearhead concluded. (ANI)

Olympic medallist Kusale back in action
New Delhi: Paris Olympics 50m rifle 3 Position bronze medallist Swapnil Kusale will return to top-flight action at the Munich World Cup starting on Tuesday. Kusale took a four-month break after the Games, returning at the National Championships and National Games, finishing third in both events. He narrowly missed making the cut for the Buenos Aires and Lima World Cups. In India's highly competitive field, it is tough to constantly remain in the national team. This season, competition is intense among two-time Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Kusale, Olympian Chain Singh, national champion Kiran Ankush Jadhav, World Championship medallist Akhil Sheoran and National Games winner Neeraj Kumar. The top three make it to the team. Kusale has done well to return to the top three in domestic rankings, with Chain Singh, who won bronze in Buenos Aires, at the top. The close competition means no shooter can relax. The contest for an India berth will only get tougher with the World Championships scheduled in Cairo in November. Aishwary, Chain and Neeraj were picked for the first two World Cups, and now Swapnil and Jadhav are getting a look-in. Kusale warmed up for the season at the Grand Prix of Liberation in Plzen last month, winning silver with a score of 463.5. The Munich World Cup will be his first ISSF competition. Kusale's world changed after his rise to the Olympic podium. The quiet Kolhapur shooter soaked in the spotlight after his Olympic success before taking a break. 'His life changed so much after Paris. He was constantly attending events. Initially, it was a bit of a struggle to adapt, but he is very clear in his head. So, after the break when he came back, he was totally focused,' national rifle coach Deepali Deshpande told HT from Munich. 'He is shooting well. The Liberation Cup served as good exposure, and he is now ready for the ISSF World Cup.' The World Championships are at the top of his plans and the performance in Munich will give him an idea where his preparations stand. 'The conditions are good in Munich, and all of them are experienced shooters. Most have come here multiple times and are very comfortable with the range,' she said. The 50m rifle 3P shooters will have the first elimination round on Tuesday, while the women's 10m air rifle and men's 10m air pistol finals are on the first day. Varun Tomar will lead India's charge in air pistol, which also has debutants Aditya Malra and Nishant Rawat. Olympic medallist Sarabjot Singh will compete in the ranking points section. In women's air rifle, two-time Olympian Elavenil Valarivan, Arya Borse and national champion Ananya Naidu, who is making her World Cup debut, will compete.
