5 changes Apple needs to make for the upcoming iPhone 17
So, here's a look at the five biggest changes Apple needs to make to the standard iPhone 17 if it wants to truly call it an upgrade over the iPhone 16 – and not just another refresh.
Let's get this one out of the way – because it's honestly getting embarrassing. In 2025, a $799 flagship phone still rocking a 60Hz screen just doesn't cut it. The iPhone 16 is stuck there and Apple has to change that with the iPhone 17 .It's time to bring ProMotion – Apple's fancy name for the LTPO display that smoothly adjusts from 120Hz down to 1Hz – to the regular iPhone. Every major rival already does it. Galaxy S25? 120Hz. OnePlus 13? 120Hz. Xiaomi 15? Same story. Hey, even a bunch of mid-range phones come with high refresh rates now.Rumors say Apple might finally bump the iPhone 17 up to 90Hz. Sure, that's better... but honestly, still not enough. Siri needs a serious glow-up
At this point, Siri isn't just lagging behind – it's kind of broken. In 2025, with AI assistants from Google, Amazon and OpenAI pulling off some seriously impressive stuff, Siri still feels stuck in the past.
The promised upgraded Siri is still missing. | Video credit – Apple Apple promised big things for Siri with Apple Intelligence on the iPhone 16 , but most of that didn't pan out. The iPhone 17 needs to turn that mess around and finally deliver a version of Siri that feels smart, responsive, and genuinely helpful. Faster charging speeds, please
Officially, the iPhone 16 lineup didn't get faster wired charging – but under the hood, there were signs of progress. Our tests showed brief charging spikes up to 38W when the phone was under heavy load, like during gaming or using demanding apps. The real jump was on the wireless side. Apple boosted MagSafe charging from 15W to 25W, which is getting surprisingly close to wired speeds. But again, in 2025, that's still playing catch-up.
Android phones like the Xiaomi 14T Pro or Motorola Edge 50 Pro are miles ahead when it comes to charging speed. Even affordable models like the Edge 50 Fusion beat the iPhone here. Apple needs to stop lagging and step it up with the iPhone 17 and actually, some leaks suggest it might indeed do so. Base model deserves better cameras
Apple's camera game is solid – if you are going for the Pro models. The regular iPhones don't get the same love and that's a shame. More RAM to keep up with AI
With AI becoming a thing – and apps and games getting heavier – RAM matters more than ever. The iPhone 17 is expected to come with 8 GB of RAM, which sounds decent… but might not be enough in the long run.To stay future-proof, it would make more sense for Apple to match the 12 GB expected on the rest of the iPhone 17 family: the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. More RAM means smoother multitasking, better app performance and just a longer-lasting phone overall.
What would actually make you upgrade to the iPhone 17 ? And what more do you think Apple needs to bring to the base model to make it worth it in 2025? Drop your thoughts – curious to see what's on your wish list. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!

Google tests new looks for the search bar on the Chrome app for Android
Google has been testing different looks for the beta version of the Google Chrome app for Android, looking for the best place to put a shortcut to its AI Mode. Announced earlier this year at Google I/O, AI Mode is designed to help Google fight off challenges to its dominating search business from AI apps. AI Mode stops those with a complicated search query from having to go through multiple search results to get the information they want. To help push AI Mode, Google has redesigned the search bar on its apps. That's because, ideally, if you have a question you need answered, the search bar is where you would go first to help get your answer. Google is now looking to see how it can best put AI Mode in front of the eyeballs looking at the Android version of Chrome. Mishaal Rahman wrote that he found a new look for the Chrome search bar when he opened a beta version of the mobile browser on an Android phone. Google had moved the Lens shortcut and voice search icons out of the search bar and placed them below the bar. The current Chrome search bar on the left and one of the new looks being tested on the right. | Image credit-Android Authority Google did this so it could move a shortcut icon for AI Mode right into the search bar, putting it right in the front of Chrome users. It's the digital equivalent of following that old real estate idiom, "Location, Location, Location." Additionally, the old "G" logo is placed on the left of the search bar, and the old "Search or type URL" phrase written in the search bar is replaced with "Search Google or type URL." Another alternative search bar design being tested to put the AI Mode shortcut right in front of the user. | Image credit-Android Authority Google also tested another look for the Chrome search bar. On this variant of the design being tested, the Google Lens and voice search shortcut icons found under the search bar had another shortcut added, this one for incognito mode. You might call this the "Heisenberg" icon for its resemblance to Walter White in Breaking Bad . In this version, the "G" logo is absent from the search bar, and the wording used inside the bar is the previously used text. Both different looks for the Chrome search bar were found in beta version 139.0.7258.32 of the Chrome browser for Android. Neither search bar being tested with an AI Mode shortcut appears on my Pixel 6 Pro running Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3. In my case, I'm only running version 138 of the Chrome app which explains why I'm not seeing the search bars being tested by Google. Eventually, Google will replace the current search bar on the Chrome app for Android since whichever new one it selects should drive more users to AI Mode and help Google defend its search bar business from getting attacked by what the company sees as AI interlopers.

Verizon getting on customers' nerves by pulling promised discount
Verizon is known to dangle discounts at customers contemplating a switch. These loyalty discounts let customers lower their monthly bill and are often enough to stop them from leaving. The company appears to be randomly removing the discount for some subscribers. Some Reddit users have complained that the loyalty discount has been taken away. User tangodownrookie says that Verizon offered them a discount of $20 per line when they were about to leave, making them not only stay but also add another line. On top of that, they also got a new phone through the carrier, which has a financing term of three years. The discount has been pulled. —tangodownrookie, Reddit user, July 2025 Verizon has effectively left them in the lurch. They wouldn't be a Verizon customer now if it weren't for the loyalty discount, which doesn't even apply to their bill anymore. And since they haven't paid off their phone yet, they can't leave right discount usually ranges between $10 and $40 and is offered for up to 12 months, after which they may or may not be renewed. It's not known if the 12 months are up already for the affected users. It's also possible that changes made recently to their accounts have made them ineligible for the discount, or they have applied a new promo that isn't stackable with these discounts. It could also be an error. Either way, Verizon should be able to provide clarity, but tangodownrookie isn't willing to reach out to them, claiming customer service has proven inept in the past to help them sort out similar issues. They have been with Verizon for more than 20 years, so we can't be dismissive of their claims, although it's worth pointing out that the carrier has overhauled the customer service experience and and contacting the company is worth a shot. Other customers have had similar issues in the past. Verizon abruptly removes discounts sometimes, without a forewarning. This leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of customers. While Verizon may have its reasons, the company should ideally be transparent and forthcoming about all the terms and conditions to prevent any misunderstandings. We have reached out to the company for clarity on the issue and will update the article if we hear back.
