But the city has been working hard to help New Yorkers get the resources they need, she said. Some 15,000 families and individuals moved out of shelters and into subsidized housing, many of which used CityFHEPS vouchers, Park said.

White House mocks ‘unserious' NJ Dem Rep. LaMonica McIver after she claims ‘Liberation Day' is ‘racist' and code for ‘white power'

The White House slammed New Jersey Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver on Monday after she argued that President Trump's 'Liberation Day' mantra is code for 'white power.' McIver — who was hit with federal charges in June accusing her of assaulting and interfering with immigration officers outside a New Jersey detention center — leveled the accusation as she railed against Trump's crime crackdown in Washington, DC, which she fears 'will start a civil war' if he tries it in other Democrat-run cities. 3 The White House dismissed McIver's accusations and mocked her alleged role in a 'catfight' outside a Newark ICE facility. 'I think there's an ultimate agenda of this administration to do these types of things,' the congresswoman said of the president's decision to take control of DC's police department and deploy federal law enforcement and National Guard troops in the nation's capital, during an interview on the 'Defending Democracy with Marc Elias' podcast last week. 'Sic the military on the very people that they're supposed to be protecting in these cities and then expect a certain response so that it can escalate – I truly believe that that's what the president hopes for,' McIver argued, before calling the effort – and Trump's 'Liberation Day' for DC label – 'racist.' 'When he says, oh, you know, it's Liberation Day, and all of these things, those are, you know, ways of him saying, oh, it's white power,' McIver said. 'Those are racist remarks,' she argued. 'His number one targets are cities that are led by black mayors.' McIver went on to bemoan that Trump's 'number one targets are sanctuary cities that, you know, support immigration.' The New Jersey Democrat charged that Trump's push to clean up DC and end sanctuary city policies 'show us each and every day how much of a bigot he is.' 3 McIver argued that Trump's actions to tackle crime in the nation's capital demonstrate he is 'a bigot.' REUTERS 3 McIver has pleaded not guilty to three counts of assaulting, resisting, impeding and interfering with federal officials related to her alleged role in the ICE facility dustup. AP The White House brushed off McIver's allegations, mocking her 'attempted catfight' outside the Newark ICE facility that landed her in trouble with the feds. 'LaMonica McIver, whose claim to fame was assaulting federal agents, is an unserious person whose comments are nothing more than a political stunt, much like her attempted catfight in front of an ICE facility,' White House spokesman Harrison Fields told The Post. 'Congress would be better off if she left, and the people of New Jersey would benefit greatly if she pursued her apparent passion for street fighting,' he added. McIver's office did not respond to a request for comment. Homeland Security Uses DaBaby Song for ICE Promo Video Amid Washington DC Crime Crackdown

For whatever reason, the Department of Homeland Security is using DaBaby to promote the trucks used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. In a tweet shared on Thursday (Aug. 14), the social media account for Homeland Security shared a video showing off multiple ICE trucks patrolling the streets of Washington D.C., which comes amid Donald Trump's vow to increase police presence in the Capitol to "crack down on crime." The clip is soundtracked by DaBaby's song "Toes," which appeared on his 2019 album Kirk. On the song, DaBaby raps about his "ice," as in his jewelry. Not the same ICE that Homeland Security is talking about. "My heart so cold I think I'm done with ice," he raps in the Kenny Beats-produced song. The version the government agency used was heavily censored. COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess. As reported by Rolling Stone, the Trump administration spent $384,000 on the Ford Raptors and GMC Yukons featured in the video, with an additional $182,000 spent on "graphic wrap design and application for law enforcement vehicles." The administration said the vehicles were for "recruitment purposes." The trucks proudly feature the same color scheme that Trump has for his private jet and feature the phrase, "Defend the Homeland" and "President Donald J. Trump." ICE has been seeking to recruit more officers amid Trump's push for more forcible deportations across the country. The call to action worked for former Superman actor Dean Cain, at least, with him recently announcing that he'll be joining the agency. It's unclear if DaBaby gave Homeland Security permission to use the track, although he has not responded to it on social media or reposted it. He did, however, previously indicate that he was a supporter of Donald Trump in a 2022 episode of the Full Send podcast. "Do I f**kswith Trump? Now? Hell yeah," he said, per Billboard. "Trump is a gangster. He let Kodak [Black] Out." The reveal that he's a supporter of Trump came shortly after he faced immense backlash after he went on a homophobic rant during his performance at the Rolling Loud Festival in 2021. He later revealed that the controversy ultimately cost him $200 million in potential earnings. Gov. Kathy Hochul demands return of 7-year-old NYC public school student grabbed by ICE in Trump crackdown

Gov. Kathy Hochul demands return of 7-year-old NYC public school student grabbed by ICE in Trump crackdown Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday demanded the 'immediate return' of a 7-year-old New York City public school student grabbed last week by federal immigration authorities amid the Trump administration's sweeping crackdown. Dayra, an Ecuadorian student at P.S. 89 The Jose Peralta School of Dreamers in Queens, and her mom Martha were separated from her 19-year-old brother during an immigration check-in Aug. 12 at 26 Federal Plaza. They were transported to a mega detention center near the U.S. southern border, while the teenage boy, Manuel, is being held in the Northeast. In a written statement, Hochul pledged to work with the federal government to secure the borders and deport 'violent criminals who pose a real threat,' and not families and students 'contributing to society.' 'Ripping a mother from her children and detaining her 7-year-old daughter is cruel and unjust,' Hochul said in a statement. 'It does not make anyone in New York or across the country safer.' 'Instead of preparing her daughter for school, this mother and her daughter have been separated from their family and sent to a facility in Texas. My Administration has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security demanding their immediate return to New York.' On Friday, Martha's partner, Patricio, told the Daily News that she feared deportation to Ecuador after fleeing domestic violence in the country. An immigration judge denied Martha's asylum claim last year, but the family has so far been able to stay in the U.S. while attending regular appointments. 'We were all very scared,' he said in Spanish of last Tuesday's check-in amid the Trump administration's ramped-up deportation campaign. 'Because we knew they were going to arrest them.' DHS did not immediately return a request for comment. President Trump campaigned on a promise of mass deportations, focusing on the danger of immigrants with criminal records. But fewer than half of ICE's immigration arrests in New York City have involved someone with a conviction or criminal history, according to the governor's office. Hochul has largely picked her battles with the president, serving as one of his most vocal critics on topics such as tariffs, congestion pricing and federal cuts, while finding common ground with the New York native on others. Most recently, the governor made headlines on Friday for pardoning a middle-aged immigrant with a decades-old manslaughter conviction to stop his deportation. On Monday, Hochul called on the federal government to improve conditions at 26 Federal Plaza's impromptu jail, where advocates and immigration attorneys say detainees have been subject to overcrowding and lacked access to legal counsel. 'President Trump promised only to target the 'worst of the worst,' but ICE continues to target families, students and those contributing to society,' the governor said. 'If a 7-year-old is who President Trump considers the 'worst of the worst,' then the promise was a lie from the start.' The first day of school is Sept. 4. _____
