Erie's John Oliver responds to Last Week Tonight's John Oliver
On the most recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the host mentioned the canceled plans for a $300 million recycling plant for Erie, along with a historic anecdote about Mad Anthony Wayne and how his corpse was boiled in oil to have his skeleton shipped back to his home town, stating 'and thanks to the foiled recycling plant, remains the only thing I will ever know about Erie, Pennsylvania.'
In response, VisitErie posted a video to their social media featuring their own John Oliver standing in front of the kettle used to boil the general's corpse, which is on display at the Hagen History Center, inviting the TV host to come visit the site any time while also calling attention to the great things about Erie.
'But from John Oliver to another, we wanted to share some other things that you should know about Erie,' the Erieite said.
Oliver also pointed out Erie's renowned beaches on Presque Isle State Park, along with some notable figures who've called Erie home, including Train's Pat Monahan, Former Head of Homeland Security Tom Ridge and how Tom Hanks wrote and directed the movie That Thing You Do about a band from Erie.
Oliver also called attention to Erie's fishing scene, Waldameer and its massive grape growing industry for notable companies like Welch's, punctuating the video with an invitation for the two to have dinner.
'Consider this your official invitation to learn more about Erie, Pennsylvania and even join me for dinner here in Erie because what's better than one John Oliver, but two John Olivers,' he said.

Dean Cain is hitting back at those criticizing his recent decision to join the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" star, in an appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" on Aug. 11, said his decision to join the agency stemmed from wanting to support ICE officers. "I'm 59 years old and I've joined ICE," Cain said on the show. "Go ahead and denigrate my career. But what I'm doing is I'm standing up for the men and women of ICE. I'm a sworn deputy sheriff. I'm a reserve police officer. I have been for almost a decade now." Cain went on to defend ICE officers, saying they are being "vilified," "attacked" and "doxed" for "trying to their job" that the "American people hired them for" and the "Congress wrote laws for." "They're doing it very, very well," Cain said, appreciating ICE agents. Cain '100% proud' to stand with ICE agents The actor said the criticism started when he did a recruitment video for ICE, prompting some to think he had "actually joined" the agency. He then spoke with ICE officials and decided to officially join the agency and be sworn in. "I'm 100% proud to stand with our agents of ICE," Cain said on the show. "I love these people. They're wonderful men and women and husbands and fathers of every ethnicity, every race, every background." Cain also took a dig at John Oliver, who on a recent show had blasted the former's decision to join the federal immigration enforcement agency, which has come under scrutiny for aggressively deporting tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants in President Donald Trump's second term. "I'll happily take the jibes of John Oliver," Cain remarked. "I'm being pilloried and attacked for joining up with a law a federal law enforcement agency. (It) is insane. I did it to protect Americans and to protect our men and women of ICE." Untrained former actor? When political strategist Tim Miller, the show's other guest, asked Cain if he knows what rights an individual has if he shows up "at the door of someone's home as an ICE agent," Cain responded by saying he's "not an ICE agent yet" and is yet to undergo training. "So yeah, you're an untrained former actor," Miller said in response. "I'm a former actor," Cain said. "I'm a former professional football player, too. So, want to run down your resume? I mean, it's so stupid." "Denigrating somebody because they're doing this because of what they used to do or what they do or whether they're an actor or a writer or a newscaster is ridiculous. ‘South Park' Highlights Brutal Unaired Scene Attacking Kristi Noem: ‘Didn't See This On TV?'
'South Park' has tripled down on its unbridled mockery of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The long-running animated series first targeted Noem in last week's episode, 'Got a Nut,' which depicted her as a crazed, dog-killing leader of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids — whose heavily touched-up face simply won't stop melting. 'South Park' went even further, however, in an alternate end-credits scene that didn't make the television broadcast. 'Didn't see this on TV? Here's the Paramount+ version of the end credits scene,' the official 'South Park' account wrote Monday on X, formerly Twitter. Related: The end-credits scene shown during last week's broadcast saw Noem and her band of ICE agents singing 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing' after a bloody raid on President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. The alternate version arguably skewers her even further. The scene shows Noem, who infamously admitted in her 2024 memoir 'No Going Back' to killing her family dog because of its 'aggressive personality,' waltzing into a pet store fully armed — and unloading round after round into the canines in the building. When one puppy tries to escape, Noem hobbles after it — and shoots it in the face. Noem has yet to respond to the newly highlighted scene, but seemed to detest her overall portrayal on the show. The Trump official told conservative pundit Glenn Beck last week that she hadn't seen the episode, but apparently heard about its unflattering portrayal of her looks. 'It's so lazy to constantly make fun of women for how they look,' Noem said on his podcast. 'Only the liberals and the extremists do that. If they wanted to criticize my job, go ahead and do that, but clearly they can't. They just pick something petty like that.' Unlike the liberals and extremists she referenced, Noem has overseen the massively unpopular and potentially unconstitutional immigration raids launched by ICE at the direction of Trump earlier this year. Former 'Superman' actor Dean Cain ridiculed 'Last Week Tonight' host John Oliver on Monday over his monologue claiming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was 'f—ed' if they let the actor join its ranks. Near the end of his show on Sunday, Oliver mocked both ICE and Cain over news that ICE had removed its age limits and would be swearing in the 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' star as an 'honorary ICE officer.' 'You know, there's an old saying in Hollywood: 'If all you can get is Dean Cain, you are f—ed,'' Oliver said on his show. 'Now, I'm not saying that ICE isn't finding people. 'So, I don't know why you're saying untrained. And by the way, when you join ICE, they train you. So, to say that and try to denigrate because I'm an actor, I shouldn't be able to be concerned about what's going on with our borders or with our law enforcement agencies is denigrating. It's ridiculous. Should I say because you're a former Republican strategist, you have no say on anything? That's baloney,' he added.
