Lipscomb's Lennie Acuff is heading home to Alabama to take job at Samford
Acuff had winning records in five of his six seasons at Lipcomb, with this past season's team sweeping the Atlantic Sun regular-season and tournament championships before losing to Iowa State in March Madness and finishing 25-10.
The 60-year-old Acuff is a native of Huntsville, about 90 minutes northeast of Birmingham, and was head coach at Division II Alabama-Huntsville from 1997-2019. Lipscomb athletic director Philip Hutcheson said Acuff couldn't pass up the chance to return to his home state, where his adult children and extended family live.
'While we are disappointed that he is leaving, we understand the attraction of being close to one's family and we wish him continued success in this new opportunity,' Hutcheson said.
McMillan left Samford on Saturday to take over at Texas A&M. The Bulldogs were 22-11 this past season with a loss to George Mason in the NIT. They were 99-52 in five seasons under McMillan and drew national notice in the 2024 NCAA Tournament when they narrowly lost to Kansas in the first round.

(AP) — The Los Angeles Angels turned the eighth triple play in team history Tuesday night, with shortstop Zach Neto getting two putouts and an assist off a line drive by Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani. Miguel Rojas was on second and Dalton Rushing was on first for the Dodgers in the sixth inning when Ohtani hit a drive right up the middle past reliever Brock Burke. Neto caught Ohtani's liner and stepped on second base in stride to get Rojas. Neto quickly threw to first, where Nolan Schanuel tagged out Rushing as the Dodgers rookie attempted to sneak back. The Angels' triple play was their first since Aug. 18, 2023. It also preserved a 5-5 tie in the latest edition of the Freeway Series. The Angels have won the first four games this season against the Dodgers.

Judge homers, Stanton goes 4 for 5 with a homer, as Yankees rout Twins 9-1
NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his first homer in nearly three weeks, Giancarlo Stanton had his first four-hit game in nearly two years, and the New York Yankees routed the Minnesota Twins 9-1 on Tuesday night. Carlos Rodón (12-7) allowed one hit in seven innings. He allowed a leadoff single to Austin Martin and cruised after a 31-pitch first inning. He became the first Yankee to complete seven innings since the left-hander pitched eight against the Cubs on July 11. Stanton went 4 for 5 for his first four-hit game since Aug. 24, 2023 against Washington. He doubled in his first at-bat, homered in the fifth and singled in his final two at-bats before getting lifted for a pinch runner following a two-run single. Judge homered for the first time since July 23 when he hit a drive off Minnesota rookie starter Travis Adams (1-2). Anthony Volpe hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the second as the Yankees beat the Twins for the ninth straight time. Stanton added a homer in the fifth to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead. It was the second time this season Stanton and Judge connected in the same game and 54th time overall, including the playoffs. The Yankees won their third series since the All-Star break and won the first two games of a series for the first time since sweeping Seattle July 8-10. Adams allowed four runs and four hits in 2 1/3 innings. Key Moment Rodón loaded the bases when he hit Ryan Jeffers and allowed a run on a ground ball by Royce Lewis in the first. Singer works 6 shutout innings, Steer drives in 3 runs as the Reds end Phillies' 4-game win streak
CINCINNATI (AP) — Brady Singer pitched six shutout innings, Spencer Steer drove in three runs and the Cincinnati Reds beat NL East-leading Philadelphia 6-1 Tuesday night, halting the Phillies' four-game win streak. Singer (10-9) gave up three of the Phillies' four hits, struck out six and didn't walk a batter. The 29-year-old right-hander faced the minimum of 17 batters over the first 5 2/3 innings with the only hit allowed being a single by Nick Castellanos, whose grounder deflected off the glove of shortstop Elly De La Cruz. Castellanos was erased on a double play in the fifth. Steer hit a two-run double in the third and Miguel Andujar added a solo homer for a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Andujar's eighth homer was his second since being traded to the Reds on July 31. Steer added a sacrifice fly and Jose Trevino had a two-run single in the sixth before the game was halted for 28 minutes by rain at the start of the seventh inning. Bryce Harper spoiled the Reds' shutout bid with a two-out homer, his 18th, off Sam Moll during a downpour in the ninth inning. Ranger Suárez (8-6) gave up a season-high 10 hits and six runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two. Key moment Rafael Marchán singled and Trea Turner doubled him to third with two outs in the sixth. Kyle Schwarber, who came in tied with the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani for the NL home run lead with 42, grounded out to end the threat. The Reds had 10 hits and their six runs were the second-most the team has scored in August. They've scored 39 runs in 11 August games, 20 coming in two contests.
