ACC quarterback headed to HBCU program
Brandon never saw game action during his ACC career. Still, he showed promise at Cheshire Academy, where he threw for over 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also played basketball and baseball, showing his all-around athleticism. His move from the ACC to an HBCU highlights the talent shift happening across college football.
Tennessee State is undergoing big changes. Former head coach Eddie George led the Tigers to the FCS playoffs before leaving for Bowling Green. Reggie Barlow now takes over after a strong run with Alabama State and the XFL's DC Defenders. Brandon gives the staff a quarterback with size, arm talent, and leadership.
The addition of an ACC quarterback helps boost Tennessee State's HBCU resurgence. It also signals that HBCU football is attracting talent from top conferences. Brandon's presence could help stabilize the offense during the coaching transition.
Tennessee State has an unknown outlook heading into 2025. As the team adjusts to a new system, Brandon will have the chance to lead the way. His move from the ACC to an HBCU is one many players are making these days, including a player for Tennessee State's first opponent.
Fans and scouts will watch closely to see how he performs. Brandon's development could be key to another strong run in the OVC/Big South.

Five-time Pro Bowl G Brandon Scherff reveals he retired as quietly as possible this offseason
Brandon Scherff retired this offseason, and he chose to reveal the news in the 13th and final paragraph of a press release from his alma mater. The former Washington Commanders and Jacksonville Jaguars technically hit free agency after the 2024 season, but no news came about his next destination. He was certainly seen as a possible addition for many offensive line-needy teams, until the University of Iowa announced it was inducting him into its Hall of Fame. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Buried in the article discussing his decorated career with the Hawkeyes: 'It's been something I could never dream of,' says Scherff, who retired from playing this summer. 'Sometimes I would tell my wife that she has to pinch me, because I'm playing a kid's game, and being able to do it as a job is pretty amazing. Now, having kids and being able to see them after games is absolutely wonderful. So I would say it's a dream come true. And I will be forever grateful to have had that chance.' So Scherff has apparently retired at the age of 33, ending the career of one of the best guards of the past decade. It's unclear when he made the decision. Among offensive guards, only Quenton Nelson, Zack Martin and Joel Bitonio have made the Pro Bowl more than Scherff since he entered the league as the No. 5 pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. Even with a struggling organization in D.C., Scherff was an immediate impact player and grew into a pillar of the team, both on the offensive line and in the locker room. The contributions of players in his position can go under the radar, but the $110 million he made in his career speaks to how important his teams considered him. Scherff was also an Outland Trophy winner at Iowa, earning the prize for the nation's top lineman, offensive or defensive.

CBS Sports predicts Clemson football's bowl game and CFP fate entering 2025 season
The Clemson Tigers made a dramatic return to the College Football Playoff last season after a four-year absence. On the same day Clemson lost a late 14-10 fourth-quarter lead to rival South Carolina to suffer its third loss of 2024, the Tigers got an 11th-hour pardon when Syracuse pulled a stunning upset of No. 6 Miami to send Dabo Swinney's team to the ACC Championship Game for a matchup against SMU. The Tigers memorably defeated the Mustangs on Nolan Hauser's 56-yard field goal, an ACC title game record, as time expired in a thrilling 34-31 victory that sent them to the expanded 12-team playoff. While Clemson would fall to the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the CFP to finish 10-4, the Tigers now enter 2025 as a bonafide national championship contender with one of the most talented rosters in the nation. They're ranked No. 6 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the preseason AP poll. Don't expect Clemson to be absent from the 12-team playoff field come December, says CBS Sports. In the outlet's preseason bowl projections on Thursday, analyst Brad Crawford laid out his prediction for where quarterback Cade Klubnik and company will land in the 2025 postseason picture. CBS Sports has Clemson repeating as ACC champions and being the No. 3 seed in the playoff behind No. 1 seed Texas and No. 2 Penn State. Crawford projects the Tigers to meet either the Alabama Crimson Tide or Boise State Broncos in the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day. "Dabo Swinney's right -- he might have a roster capable of churning along from beginning to end without a loss this season. That's certainly a high-end projection for a program trying to get back to the playoff with quality wins in and outside of the ACC, but with a Heisman candidate at quarterback and potentially three first-rounders on defense, the iron is hot." --Brad Crawford, CBS Sports. For Klubnik, his first college start came in Clemson's 31-14 loss to No. 6 Tennessee in the 2022 Orange Bowl. He was 30-of-54 with 320 yards through the air while rushing 20 times for 51 yards and a touchdown. Clemson opens the 2025 season against the LSU Tigers at Memorial Stadium in prime time on Aug. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ABC. LSU is ranked No. 9 in both the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25. ACC college football stadium rankings by Google, Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews
The two best-reviewed football stadiums in the ACC also feature two of the best entrances in the entire country. The run from Howard's Rock down the hill into Clemson's Memorial Stadium (aka Death Valley) and the frenzy set off by the guitar riffs of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" when Virginia Tech walks through the tunnel into Lane Stadium are unforgettable parts of the college football experience at this point. So perhaps it's no surprise then that they also received the best marks among ACC venues, according to an analysis of more than 3,000 reviews doled out by users on Google, Yelp and Tripadvisor. Clemson's Memorial Stadium and Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium were two of five ACC stadiums that finished with a combined average score of more than 4.6 stars out of 5. Florida State's Doak Campbell Stadium, Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium and North Carolina State's Carter-Finley Stadium also received fared well compared to their peers in other conferences. The ACC, however, had the fewest stadiums above 4.6 among power conferences. The list differs from USA TODAY's list of best college football stadiums published last month.
