Mamelodi Sundowns turn on the magic to dispatch Richards Bay, edge closer to eighth PSL title in a row

Mamelodi Sundowns closed in on an eighth successive Premiership title by securing a 3-0 victory over Richards Bay on Wednesday night in a result that was never really in doubt, and with such consummate ease that it was like 'stealing candy from a bay'.
Richards Bay hardly provided any resistance as the Brazilians bagged the maximum points on an evening when their only challengers, Orlando Pirates, fell to a shock 1-0 defeat at home against Sekhukhune United.
In a sparsely populated Loftus Versfeld that nevertheless sounded as though it was fully packed, with the Sundowns faithful singing their lungs out, the men in yellow turned on the magic – their passing machine running with such precision that the visitors hardly got a look-in.
The magical double remains attainable, Bafana ba Style having qualified for the CAF Champions League final with that away goals rule elimination of holders Al Ahly last week and now also stretching their lead in the Premiership to 12 points.
They have played two more matches than Pirates, though.
Never having lost to Richards Bay in the league, Sundowns were always favourites going into this match, and they were swift to show just why as they scored the opener as early as the eighth minute.
Arthur Sales delivered, the Brazilian tapping home a superbly floated pass by Teboho Mokoena, who got the ball over the defence and straight on to his on-rushing teammate.
The build-up to the goal illustrated Sundowns' class as they knocked the ball about purposely, switching from the flanks and even retreating towards their own half to lure their adversaries out, before Mokoena unleashed that killer pass.
The Bafana midfield kingpin almost made it 2-0 on 25 minutes with a trademark pile-driver from the edge of the box as he stung goalkeeper Ian Otieno, who needed a second take to hold on to the ball.
The champions did not need to wait too much longer to double up, though, as Iqraam Rayners found the net just three minutes after Mokoena's attempt.
Tashreeq Matthews received the ball on the left side and sent it into the box for Rayners to get the slightest headers with his back to goal, directing the ball into the net.
Matthews nearly made it 3-0 just before the break, but his shot went inches wide of the far post as it also eluded the on-running Sales.
The match was essentially over as a contest at the halftime break, the fact that Richards Bay have proven themselves a second half team notwithstanding.
But Sundowns needed to make sure there were no comebacks, and they did that with yet another team goal less than five minutes in, Marcelo Allende completing a move involving three players with a shot from close range to get his name on to the scoresheet.
The Natal Rich Boyz made a fight of it as they launched some attacks but they never threatened Dennis Onyango as Sundowns held on to the victory that sees them edging ever so closer to that eighth title – aided as they were by Pirates losing to Sekhukhune.

Bafana Bafana young guns raise their hands with convincing win over Mozambique

ASHLEY Cupido and Sinoxolo Kwayiba scored two second half goals as Bafana Bafana beat Mozambique in an International Friendly match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday. | BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix Bafana Bafana concluded their international friendly week on a high note with a commanding 2-0 victory over Mozambique at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night. Goals from Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Ashley Cupido secured the win for South Africa on the night where they created several additional chances that could have seen the scoreline increase even further. Head coach Hugo Broos was rewarded for taking a gamble by offering some of the less regularly featured players a chance to prove themselves on the international stage. Following a goalless stalemate against Tanzania last Friday in what turned out to be a low-key affair, the second match of the window against Mozambique was anything but quiet. Broos' men came out firing from the outset, not only putting Mozambique's defense under pressure but also giving the coaching staff plenty to think about as a number of the emerging players hit their strides quickly. The first half saw Bafana's youthful lineup carving out multiple chances in front of goal, though Mozambique's goalkeeper Ivane Urrubal stood firm to deny them an early breakthrough. However, the second half opened up significantly, and Mozambique's defensive shortcomings were finally punished as Bafana found the back of the net twice. It brought to a close a friendly window that may very well mark the beginning of promising careers for several of the team's young talents. Here, Obakeng Meletse will profile the three most impressive fringe players who made a strong case for future selection in the national setup. Nonetheless, his movement and positioning constantly troubled Mozambique's backline, forcing them to stay alert at all times. His knack for finding space was eye-catching, and had his final touch been more clinical, the outcome might have been even more memorable. Despite opening the scoring, there was a sense that the 25-year-old's night could have been even more productive given the chances that came his way. His pace and sharp shooting from a distance kept the Mozambican defense guessing and under pressure. The 20-year-old winger consistently posed a threat, and although several opportunities didn't result in goals, it was his two assists that ultimately helped Bafana secure their comfortable two-goal lead and see out the match. Orlando Pirates get golden opportunity to sign 24-year-old maestro!

Former target Rowan Human has rejected AmaZulu's contract extension, opening the door for Orlando Pirates to land the high-rated midfielder for free, but they will likely face competition from rivals Kaizer Chiefs. 'AmaZulu FC midfielder Rowan Human has been offered to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs by his representatives as he is set to leave the club on a free transfer. Human will leave Usuthu at the end of June after his contract expires after the 24-year-old failed to reach an agreement with the club on a new contract,' a source revealed. 'Human has been offered to both Soweto giants by his representatives and it could only be a matter of time before he gets snapped up as he will be a free agent and rediscovered his old form.' Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have secured the services of Buccaneers' Baroka FC defender Tshepho Mashiloane. 'I would have loved to go to Orlando Pirates knowing that I have promoted my team [Baroka FC]. But I believe the guys will do well next season and promote the team,' a source said. 'The chairman [Khurishi Mphahlele] has supported me and my move to Pirates and is happy. I will have to up my game when I get there [to Pirates] so I can stay competitive. I would love to get a chance to play in the cup competitions like the Carling Knockout Cup, MTN8, and Nedbank Cup. But I understand I need to work hard to earn it. I want to achieve a lot of things at Pirates.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. 'I can score goals for Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates'

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are both believed to be on the hunt for a new striker ahead of next season. Both Chiefs and Pirates were looking to make a striker signing even last season during this window. But in the end, neither Chiefs or Pirates were able to make that signing. Amakhosi went on to rely on Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley du Preez and Wandile Duba. Then in January a striker finally did arrive in Tashreeq Morris, but to no help. A winger in the sense of Glody Lilepo had the desired impact though, with five goals. Pirates remained with Evidence Makgopa, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Boitumelo Radiopane. Zakhele Lepasa was injured for the bulk of the season and didn't play a game. Now that the transfer market is open again, the Buccaneers and their arch rivals Chiefs have resumed their search. And now a striker from the Botswana top flight has put his and up to sign for either side. 'Whoever is interested will have to just talk to my agent and my club, I play centre-forward, right-winger, and left-winger. I can't talk too much about myself though because I know myself and what I can do. I can make it anywhere in South Africa, even at Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, I can play. But as a football player I prefer to do my talking on the pitch. I can't promise how many goals I can score in the PSL per season, but give me a chance you will see. I'm ready.' Said Congolese striker Jean Lwamba to Lwamba was the top goal score and was named player of the season in the Botswana League. This after scoring 15 goals. Should Chiefs or Pirates take a chance on him?
