Welcome to the Year of Hell With Nacelle's New ‘Star Trek' Action Figures

Gizmodo4 days ago
Nacelle's new Star Trek line of figures may only just be getting ready to beam in, but we're already chomping at the bit to see more of what the company has in store beyond a first wave of some truly delightful deep cuts. While we already know the lineup for wave two of the new line—revealed by none other than io9 ourselves back in March—now we can reveal two of our most anticipated figures in the plastic flesh.
To celebrate San Diego Comic-Con (and Nacelle's panel at the convention, happening right now!), io9 can exclusively reveal two figure renders from the upcoming wave 2 line, due to start shipping next year: Captain Janeway, as she appears in the legendary Voyager two-parter 'Year of Hell', and Nog, in his Starfleet ensign uniform circa season 6's 'Favor the Bold'.
As you can see above, Janeway comes not in her typical captain's uniform, but looking rough-and-ready from months of being hunted by the time-manipulating Krenim Imperium, dressed down to her tactical under vest and carrying a sentimental accessory: a pocket watch replicated for her birthday by Chakotay. Nog, meanwhile, is fully kitted out in the latter-DS9 era Starfleet uniform, complete with his rank pips indicating his ensign status. While we don't see any accessories for the young Ferengi officer just yet, the figure is inspired by the iconic Dominion War arc that sees Nog and the crew of the Defiant lead the charge to successfully retake Deep Space Nine from Dominion and Cardassian forces in Season 6's epic opening storyline.
Captain Janeway and Nog are joined by a veritable who's who of Trek characters in wave 2, including Captain Kirk from Star Trek: Generations (complete with horse!) as well as Worf and Geordi wearing their sailor uniforms from the movie's opening, Enterprise's T'Pol, Valeris from The Undiscovered Country, Bem from The Animated Series, Carol Marcus from Wrath of Khan, and the Romulan commander from one of the greatest Star Trek episodes of all time, 'Balance of Terror'.
But that's not all the news for today! io9 can also exclusively reveal Nacelle's plans for two more waves of action figures in the line. Wave 3 will be perfectly timed to celebrate 60 years of the franchise in 2026 with the main stars of the original Enterprise crew coming out as a single wave–and even a secret two-pack to mark the anniversary. Meanwhile, things will be back to Nacelle's 'normal' mix up of familiar faces and deep cuts for wave 4, with highlights including Captain Sisko from Deep Space 9, and yes, the action figure you've all been waiting for: Doctor Beverly Crusher.
From 'Sub Rosa'. Candle enthusiasts rejoice! Check out the full breakdown of wave 3 and 4's lineups below.
Wave 3
– James T. Kirk – Spock – Leonard McCoy – Nyota Uhura – Hikaru Sulu – Pavel Chekov – Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott – Christine Chapel – Janice Rand – A surprise 2-pack
Wave 4
– Benjamin Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – Saavik from Star Trek III & Star Trek IV – Beverly Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation ('Sub Rosa' Edition) – Data from Star Trek Generations (Generations Sailor Edition) – David Marcus from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan – Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: First Contact (Little Ships Edition) – John Harriman from Star Trek Generations – Tom Paris from Star Trek: Voyager (Captain Proton Edition) – Pavel Chekov from Star Trek: IV: The Voyage Home (Nuclear Wessels Edition) – Hoshi Sato from Star Trek: Enterprise ('In A Mirror, Darkly' Edition)

Pedro Pascal Faces Weird Backlash Over Vanessa Kirby

Mom, can you come pick me up? People are being really weird about Pedro Pascal online and it's giving smear campaign. If you have the profound displeasure of still being on X, you may have noticed a number of posts that essentially try to say that Pedro touches his female costars inappropriately as a way to soothe his "anxiety" — with a lot of focus on his Fantastic Four promotional tour with costar Vanessa Kirby. One of the videos of the pair was even flagged for containing an AI distortion. The posts twist what Pedro said about anxiety in a recent Men's Health interview: "I was always one to reach out when I'm facing something that is challenging or making me anxious...I definitely kind of stopped doing that, and instead I'm doomscrolling, or looking for something to watch; looking for different ways to disassociate from the feeling I'm having. And then, when it started to feel so critical, I had to go back to what was always the comfort for me in life, which was engagement in my relationships, my friendships, and conversation and shared experience." Touching, of women or otherwise, was not mentioned. The backlash further devolved into vitriolic, offensive posts about Bella Ramsey, with one post with 255k likes reading, "How come Pedro Pascal never gets anxiety around Bella Ramsey?" Similarly, others suggested that Pedro is not physically close with his male costars, which is demonstrably false (if anything, you could argue he is more physical with his male costar). It's actually not the first time similar jabs have been made at Pedro. As Vanity Fair noted, defenders of J.K. Rowling used a clip of Vanessa and Pedro at Comic-Con to suggest something untoward was happening after Pedro criticized the author for her anti-trans views. But Vanessa herself then said of them holding hands at the event, "What happened is we were both incredibly nervous going out in front of thousands of people who love this comic. He wanted me to know that we were in this together, and I found it a lovely gesture and was very glad to squeeze his hand back.' The conversation has seeped onto Instagram, where a quick look at Pedro's comment section reveals a lot of spam-like behavior: Of course, what the "groping" posts fail to acknowledge is that touching in and of itself isn't an issue; it's consent (or lack of it). There's nothing to suggest that Pedro's costars feel anything but comfortable around him. It got to the point where Pedro's fellow Marvel actor, Simu Liu, posted seemingly in defense of him: It's worth noting that the effectiveness of the attacks on Pedro's reputation were quickly questioned by many: Some even speculatated that bots might be driving the negative posts: Given that many accounts posting negative things about Pedro contained other sexist or anti-trans content, you might be That's not clear right now, but it's worth noting that Pedro has been outspoken about trans rights and Palestine, and he is firmly against Donald Trump. Now, if only people came to women's defense like this...

‘Mrs. Doubtfire' Star Matthew Lawrence Wants to Resurrect Robin Williams' Voice Using AI and Says ‘It Would Be So Cool': ‘He's Gotta Be the Voice of AI'

Matthew Lawrence, who was just a pre-teen when he starred opposite Robin Williams in the 1993 blockbuster comedy 'Mrs. Doubtfire,' told Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con that he is interested in resurrecting the late Williams' voice using artificial intelligence. Williams died in August 2014 at 63 years old. 'I would love — now, obviously, with the respect and with the OK from his family — but I would love to do something really special with his voice because I know for a generation, that voice is just so iconic,' Lawrence said. 'It's not just the fact that I knew him and worked with him and so it's in my head — it's in everybody's head. And it would be so cool.' More from Variety Robin Williams' 'Popeye' Had the 'Most Coked-Up Film Set' and 'Everyone Was Stoned,' Says Former Studio Boss: 'They Were Shipping' Cocaine in Film Canisters Greg Cannom, Oscar-Winning Makeup and Prosthetics Artist on 'Mrs. Doubtfire' and 'Vice', Dies at 73 'The Masked Singer' Reveals Identity of Paparazzo: Here Is the Celebrity Under the Costume Lawrence said that he recently came across an old television commercial that featured voiceover from Williams, which sparked the idea of finding a way to bring the iconic comedian's voice back to life. 'It's kinda like this very contemporary, modern, almost sort of foreshadowing of what's going on commercial that he did, where he did this computerized voiceover,' Lawrence said. 'And it always stuck with me. And then, during his passing, with the AI coming out, I'm like, 'Man, he's gotta be the voice of AI, He's gotta be the voice in something.' So yeah, I would love to do that.' Lawrence added the possibilities are endless when it comes bringing Williams' voice back with AI, including having Williams giving you driving directions on your phone. The actor said: 'It would be Robin! It would be so cool. I'm telling you.' With just over $440 million at the worldwide box office, 'Mrs. Doubtfire' was one of Williams' biggest comedy films. Lawrence told People magazine last year that Williams gave him a 'gift' on set by advising him never to do drugs. Williams battled substance abuse throughout his career. Lawrence cited Williams' advice as the reason he stayed away from drugs as he grew up in Hollywood. 'He was the first adult who really let me in on his condition. Like, full-on let me in,' Lawrence said. 'I mean, as bright as he was on camera — I would go visit him in his trailer to talk to him — it was painful for him. It's really painful for him. He didn't hide it. He talked to me about it.' Lawrence recalled Williams telling him, 'Don't ever do drugs. Especially cocaine.' 'He was very serious,' Lawrence added. 'He was like, 'You know when you come to my trailer and you see me like that?' He's like, 'That's the reason why. And now I'm fighting for the rest of my life because I spent 10 years doing something very stupid every day. Do not do it.' I stayed away from it because of him.' Lawrence might not have been cast in 'Mrs. Doubtfire' if it wasn't for Williams in the first place. The actor said that casting for the role of Chris Hillard came down to him and another child star. The studio allegedly preferred the other actor, but that changed after Williams pulled a prank on Lawrence during an audition. '[Robin] very secretly reached behind my back and pinched me so hard,' Lawrence said, adding the pinch made him shout out in pain. 'The studio started bawling and wept. I got the role because of that little moment over the other boy. It was all Robin Williams. 'I know what I'm going to do to get this kid this job.'
