SEC Network's Roman Harper sees two key flaws Auburn football must fix in 2025
Auburn football aims to post its first winning season since 2020 this season. How high are the chances for Auburn to make that dream a reality? One SEC Network analyst believes Auburn's recent troubles can be quickly fixed.
During a recent interview with local radio show Sportscall at SEC football media days, SEC Network analyst Roman Harper identified two areas that hurt Auburn during the 2024 season, and, if fixed, could lead Auburn to success in 2025. One factor that Harper mentioned is turnovers, a column where Auburn was one of the SEC's worst teams by losing 22 turnovers. Harper feels that the Tigers' offense can limit turnovers by communicating more effectively.
"Turning the ball over at a high rate is going to make you lose the game. Auburn turned the ball over week after week after week, and it's just simple mistakes, bad reads, not being on the same page offensively. Somebody is throwing a hitch and some the quarterbacks throwing a go-route. Like, little things like this are just simple giveaways that Auburn continued to struggle with all year long. When they got that cleaned up, they actually competed and played hard."
Having more experienced players on offense should help Auburn correct its turnover issues. The Tigers will have two sophomore receivers in Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons, with one year under their belt, a transfer quarterback with high upside, and an offensive line filled with upperclassmen. Harper mentioned improved execution can do wonders for Auburn, especially in games where they are not favored.
"Auburn is playing hard. They are not quitting on the coach. You can see that on tape. They are just mis-executing. It comes down to execution, especially when you're not more talented than the teams you are playing against. You gotta be able to out-execute (your opponents)."

"I'm still trying to gt a date set," Johnson stated. "But it's going to take a lot. I'm pretty locked in with A&M." Johnson further explained that, while the offer is both exciting and personal, Texas A&M remains the leader to sign him in early December. "It's a cool opportunity to get offered by Auburn where my dad played, but it's going to take a lot to change my commitment." Johnson's 2024 season included 2,109 yards and 25 touchdowns through the air, completing 60% of his passes, while also rushing for 571 yards and six touchdowns. Johnson is now the 174th-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle and the 24th-ranked prospect in Texas. Georgia football has the most first-team All-SEC selections
The Georgia Bulldogs have an impressive 13 All-SEC selections, which is tied with the Texas Longhorns for the most in the conference. Georgia has 11 players that made the 2025 All-SEC teams including a pair of players that made the team twice in Zachariah Branch and Peyton Woodring. No SEC team had more first-team selections than Georgia's 10. The Bulldogs have four first-team defenders, which is the most of any team in the conference. Impressively, Georgia has six first-team specialists, which compose the entire All-SEC first-team special teams unit. Georgia's offense has just three All-SEC selections including no first-team selections. The media is not exactly overconfident in Georgia's offense this fall. Projected UGA starting quarterback Gunner Stockton did not make an All-SEC team as expected. Georgia is predicted to finish second in the 16-team SEC behind Texas, who are the media's most popular SEC championship pick. Georgia begins SEC play in Week 3 of the 2025 college football season as the Dawgs hit the road to play the Tennessee Volunteers. Notre Dame football offers top-50 2027 Mississippi defensive end
There isn't much room left in Notre Dame football's 2026 recruiting class, with twenty-six commitments, they can start to look ahead to the 2027 cycle. They already have two commits, just one being a position player, but the Irish have sent out plenty of offers to some of the best prospects in the country. One of them was offered on Saturday evening in Mississippi edge rusher Derwin Fields. The 6-foot, 5-inch and 220-pounder is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the nation's No. 45 overall prospect, just outside the 5-star range. Notre Dame now joins teams like Alabama, Florida, LSU, Florida State and others in offering Fields, who should end up being able to play virtually anywhere he'd like. It does look like its going to be tough to pull him away from SEC-country, but the Irish have put their hat in the ring. If Fields is able to make it up to South Bend during the season, it would be a great sign for Notre Dame to continue to be in the mix for his commitment. Time will tell if that happens, but for now, the Irish are clearly interested in him joining their 2027 class.
