Freddie Prinze Jr. lifts lid on Sarah Michelle Gellar's secret cameo

Perth Now21-07-2025
Freddie Prinze Jr. is "glad" he was able to keep quiet about Sarah Michelle Gellar's secret cameo appearance in I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The actor returned for the new sequel almost 30 years after he starred in the original 1997 slasher opposite his wife Sarah and film fans initially thought the Buffy The Vampire Slayer star would be unable to join him onscreen because her character met an untimely end in the first film. However, it has since been revealed Sarah's beauty queen alter-ego Helen returned for a dream sequence and Freddie was thrilled to have been able to keep it secret until the movie hit cinemas.
Freddie told PEOPLE he "knew from jump" that Sarah would be in the new film, adding: "We were all really excited for audiences to get to see that and get a little bit of extra love that they weren't expecting.
"It's nice to know a secret, and to know how well-received it's going to be, months and months before it ever goes out there.
"To hear the reaction that people have had, because I know some other people that have seen it, they're all like: 'Oh, my God, you didn't tell me! That was the best.'
"I'm like, 'Yeah, it was the best one. Everybody always loves her.' To give people another taste of that, I just think was awesome. I'm glad everyone made it happen."
The new film's director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson admitted she always wanted her pal Sarah to make a surprise appearance, and they even had the costume department recreate the beauty queen tiara the actress wore in the first film.
Robinson told the publication: "As a super fan of this franchise, I was never not going to put [Sarah's character] Helen Shivers in the movie. And I didn't lie - she is dead ...
"I'm so excited about the results. I feel like it's just so fun. We recreated the Croaker Queen crown. That is an exact replica of the crown from the original movie. I really went for it in trying to create this David Lynch-y Helen Shivers dream sequence."

Prince Harry denies 'physical fight' with Prince Andrew

Prince Harry has dismissed claims he once had a "physical fight" with Prince Andrew. The Duke of Sussex was alleged to have got into an altercation with his disgraced uncle - who stepped back from public duties in 2019 amid backlash from his friendship with late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who took his own life while awaiting trial for sex trafficking - back in 2013 when a "heated argument" broke out in 2013, but his representative has denied the tale. A new book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, alleged a row broke out over "something Andrew said before Harry's back" and escalated to the point where "punches were thrown" and Andrew was left with a bloody nose. And Andrew Lownie's tome also claimed Andrew privately questioned 40-year-old Harry's relationship with now-wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, branding the former actress an "opportunist" and suggesting their marriage wouldn't last. But a spokesperson for Harry told People magazine: 'I can confirm neither of those things are true. Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry.' The book claims there has been tension between 65-year-old Andrew and both Harry and his estranged brother Prince William, 43, for years, with the latter said to have worked to oust his uncle from Royal Lodge, the home he shares in Windsor with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. Harry and 43-year-old Meghan left official duties in 2020 and are raising their children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, in California amid estrangement from the rest of the royal family. But earlier this year, the prince admitted he is keen to reconcile with his father King Charles and brother William. He told the BBC: "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore." Snoop Dogg previously offered to play peacemaker between William and Harry. He told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: 'Harry and William, I have known for a long time now. Harry asked me to perform at William's bachelor party but I couldn't make it. Anything they want to perform at now, I am there. 'They are brothers, man. Anything that gets them in the same room and being brothers again will be worth it. Life is too short to not make things right, and if Snoop can help heal that relationship, then let's do it.'

Lindsay Lohan hopes Freakier Friday helps people forget

Lindsay Lohan hopes Freakier Friday helps cinemagoers to "forget about what's going on" in the world. The 39-year-old actress has reunited with Jamie Lee Curtis for the new fantasy-comedy film, which is a sequel to 2003's Freaky Friday, and Lohan hopes the movie will help to lift spirits. Lohan - who starred alongside Jamie in the original film - told the BBC of her hopes for the sequel. "Fans love the movie and there's such a strong loyalty. It made people so happy and I like to make movies that make people feel joy," she said. "There's so much going on in the world now that it's nice to make something that allows people to forget about what's going on." Curtis recently admitted she developed a close bond with Lohan after they starred together in Freaky Friday more than two decades ago. "I felt tremendous maternal care for Lindsay after the first movie and continued to feel that," she told the Guardian newspaper. "She and I have remained friends and now we're sort of colleagues. I feel less maternal towards her because she's a mommy now herself and doesn't need my maternal care, and has, obviously, a mom – Dina's a terrific grandma." Curtis insists that Lohan doesn't need any life advice from her. "I'm bossy, very bossy, but I try to mind my own business. She doesn't need my advice. She's a fully functioning, smart woman, creative person. Privately, she's asked me questions, but nothing that's more than an older friend you might ask," she said. Lohan has been through lots of high-profile ups and downs in her life, but she recently claimed that she's now "wiser" and more "settled" than ever before. "I'm at ease in my life because I've lived, I feel like, such a long life at such a young age. I feel wiser now and very settled. I've become such a positive person," she told People. Katy Perry, Justin Trudeau 'interested in each other'

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau "have a lot in common". The 40-year-old pop star and the former Canadian prime minister have recently been spending time together in Montreal, and an insider now says there is "an attraction" between the duo. "They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes," the source told People. "She is travelling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common." Perry - who recently split from actor Orlando Bloom - and Trudeau share a love of music. "Music is one of many things they can share. Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult," the insider said. Perry confirmed the end of her engagement to Bloom in July, while Trudeau split from his wife Sophie Gregoire in 2023. "Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfill their parenting responsibilities," the source said.. "For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two." Perry and Bloom previously announced they intended to "focus on co-parenting" their four-year-old daughter Daisy following their break-up. "Their shared priority is - and always will be - raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect," a statement said. Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau "have a lot in common".
