And Easter Monday's defeat to Millwall has proven to be his final game in charge of the East Anglia club, who have chosen to wield the axe before the season comes to a close.
An excerpt of a club statement read: "Norwich City have parted company with head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup with immediate effect.
"Assistant head coach Glen Riddersholm has also left his position with the club."
Canaries Sporting Director Ben Knapper said: "Whilst we made this appointment with a long-term focus and in line with our wider club strategy and direction, unfortunately, recent results and performances have deemed it necessary for us make a change.
'I'd like to place on record our sincere thanks to Johannes and Glen.
"They are both fantastic people who worked tirelessly to help improve and move our football club forward.
'We all wish the two of them the best in the next stage of their respective careers.'
Wilshere, who was already part of the Canaries set-up, will oversee the club's final two games of the Championship season with the assistance of Tony Roberts and Nick Stanley.

Arsenal 'preparing proposal to sign Viktor Gyokeres' amid explosive 'blackmail' accusations from Sporting Lisbon's president which have 'shaken up the market'

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to 'formalise a proposal' for the signing of Viktor Gyokeres amid explosive 'blackmail' accusations from Sporting Lisbon's president, which are said to have 'shaken up the market'. Frederico Varandas responded to reports that a 'furious' Gyokeres had gone on strike after the club refused to honour a gentleman's agreement that would have allowed him to leave for a €80m (£67m) fee - considerably lower than his €100m (£84m) release clause. The Sporting president claimed that 'threats, blackmail and insults' will not persuade him to yield from his position, as per Portuguese outlet Record. He also insisted that he never promised the Swede he could depart for a cut-price fee. According to A Bola, Varandas' comments have 'shaken up the market' for the prolific forward, who has been linked with Manchester United, Juventus and the Gunners. Their report claims that amid the messy break-up, Mikel Arteta 's side are getting ready to table a proposal for Gyokeres, with his agent said to already be in London discussing a potential deal. Arsenal are in the market for a striker this summer and have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, believed to be their No 1 target. Last week they were reported to have made a formal approach for the player, in order to explore what a deal would look like if they were to bring the 22-year-old to north London, however there is yet to be an offer forthcoming. It is thought that Leipzig would value the player similarly to the nine-figure sums connected to the likes of Newcastle's Alexander Isak and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike. Mail Sport reported last week that Arsenal are hoping to secure a deal of around £70million. The developments in Gyokeres' situation could yet see him fetch a similar price in a staggeringly expensive striker market. In his explosive statement on Wednesday, Varandas guarenteed that Gyokeres would not leave the Portuguese capital for for €60m+10m (£51m+£8.5m), adding: ''This game that the agent is playing only makes the situation worse. To this day, Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres, neither today nor last season.' The president did admit that there was an agreement in regards to the release clause not needing to be met, but the fee they would indeed request was never agreed. Gyokeres has removed any reference to Sporting on his Instagram account, having also got rid of any mention of Sweden and Nike. He has three years remaining on his contract in Lisbon, but he is determined to take on a new challenge after just two years at the club, where he won the league twice, and completed a domestic double this campaign. Rui Borges, Sporting manager, was asked about Gyokeres when attending an event on Tuesday to mark the 99th anniversary of provincial team Sport Clube de Mirandela - the club where his football journey began - but refused to give anything away. 'Gyokeres? Sporting's future begins on July 1st,' Borges told reporters. 'That's all I can say and today I'm here to, above all, salute this tribute that was paid to me. That's all. I'm on vacation, I'm not here to talk about that.' Meanwhile, United have maintained contact with the striker and are said to be 'exploring the conditions' of a potential deal. The 27-year-old has long been touted as United's top transfer target, with the Swede having previously worked under Ruben Amorim at Sporting. The financial impact United's failure to qualify for European football initially looked to severely damaged their hopes of securing the striker, who netted 39 league goals from just 31 starts in the Portuguese top flight last season.

Premier League trio 'very interested' in Hamza Igamane

The Moroccan joined Rangers last summer from AS FAR Rabat in his homeland. Igamane caught the eye in his first year in Scotland, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists across 46 appearances in all competitions. Read more: Now, amidst the summer transfer window, Igamane is attracting attention. Indeed, English Premier League trio Everton, Brentford and West Ham United are 'very interested' in bringing the 22-year-old south of the border, according to who also say that Rangers have set a price tag of €15 million (£12.7 million) for any potential suitors who wish to prize him away. French Ligue 1 quartet Lens, Lille, Strasbourg and Rennes are also said to be 'on the lookout' to sign Igamane, too. The player is contracted at Rangers until 2029 after penning a five-year deal last summer. In other news, Gregory Vignal, an ex-Rangers player, claims Rafa Benitez was interested in the Ibrox job this summer. He said [RecordSport]: "I met Rafa in Liverpool, and we spoke about the Rangers job before Russell got it. "He's not working at a club right now, he's with UEFA. "But if Rangers would have considered him? "Of course, he would have been interested."

Rangers star Hamza Igamane ‘wanted by SEVEN clubs' across Europe as asking price ‘revealed'

It could be an EIGHT-figure profit A WANTED IGAMANE Rangers star Hamza Igamane 'wanted by SEVEN clubs' across Europe as asking price 'revealed' HAMZA IGAMANE is attracting new interest from France, with up to SEVEN clubs across Europe keen on the Rangers star. That's according to a report in France, which also lists the asking price the Ibrox club is reportedly demanding. Advertisement 1 Hamza Igamane celebrates his winner in the 3-2 win over Celtic in March Credit: Willie Vass Igamane, 22, only joined Gers last summer from FAR Rabat in his homeland of Morocco last summer. He cost the Light Blues £1.7million and is sure to net them a profit whenever he does leave. The forward took a while to impose himself on the starting XI under Philippe Clement but around the turn of the year was the main man up top. He dropped behind Cyriel Dessers in the pecking order once Barry Ferguson was named interim boss but still produced a stunning winner against Celtic in a 3-2 Old Firm derby victory at Parkhead. Advertisement Dessers is also the subject of transfer interest so while Rangers are in rebuild mode under Russell Martin, it's unlikely both of them would depart in the same window. According to Foot Mercato in France, Lens, Lille, Rennes and Strasbourg have joined Premier League side Everton in adding the striker to their wanted list. It's also said that Brentford and West Ham are keen on the player. Interestingly, Igamane could then feasibly end up replacing the ex-Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi, who has been outcast at Rennes. Advertisement It was reported back in March that La Liga outfit Sevilla were also exploring a potential swoop for Igamane. Sevilla baulked at the thought of a £10m transfer fee but according to Foot Mercato, the price has only gone up with Gers now demanding £12.7m for their young star. Rangers fans react to news Russell Martin is their new manager The links with Everton go back months as well, with the Toffees being connected with him during the January transfer window. Everton are also believed to be keen on Gers midfielder Mohamed Diomande. Advertisement Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
