Cammy Day complainer says Labour should be ashamed for readmitting council chief
A man who complained about former council leader Cammy Day has blasted the Labour party for allowing him to rejoin.
The man, who is a constituent of Day's in Edinburgh, complained that he was being sexually harassed in 2022.
The party said to progress his complaint he would have to go through a formal process, which he declined and argued it was placing the onus on victims to take action.
Now the man has criticised the decision to allow Day back in to the party after we revealed he had sent sexual messages to Ukrainian refugees. He was also the subject of several complaints to Edinburgh City Council.
The man said: 'If a senior leader in the Labour Party can act in a sexually inappropriate manner with impunity, what message does that send to victims of sexual harassment? Scottish Labour have given the green light to misconduct by re-admitting Cammy Day and have sent an unequivocal message to victims about whose side they are really on.

'I believe this will significantly undermine the whole system and processes that are meant to protect victims of sexual harassment; and decrease the likelihood of victims coming forward in future. Shame on them.'
Labour Party spokesperson said: 'The Labour Party takes all complaints seriously. They are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate action is taken.'

Theme park ride 'derails' injuring 13 kids as thrillseekers left 'bloodied'

Police have asked members of the public to avoid a Coney Beach Pleasure Park in Wales following a reported ride derailment. South Wales Police have confirmed 13 children and one adult were left injured following the funfair incident at roughly 5.50pm on Wednesday. It is believed some of those involved in the incident were children, with guests later seen climbing off the Wacky Worm ride - while others were helped down with a ladder. The funfair said they were instructed by police to clear the site around the third-party ride, not owned by Coney Beach, for further investigation, reports the Mirror. The park said: "Due to an incident on a third-party ride not owned by Coney Beach, we were instructed by the police to clear the site for further investigation. "We apologise for the disruption and will be providing refunds to affected guests as soon as possible. We will be releasing instructions on refunds shortly. We thank you for your cooperation." Witness Kieran Roche said the incident caused several injuries, including bloody noses. Others said the ride derailed at approximately 5.50pm, before park owners quickly helped people off the ride, with ladders brought out for those who couldn't reach the ground on their own. Police and fire crews have been on the scene since the witness first reported the incident at 6.15pm. The park has closed and a cordon is in place while authorities work to manage the situation. "At this time we have confirmed that 13 children and one adult have sustained minor injuries. Some of these have required hospital treatment. "The amusement park will remain closed tomorrow while officers and health and safety personnel carry out their investigation. Please continue to avoid the area to allow Emergency Services access."

Trump's mission is to bring peace to Europe, says JD Vance
JD Vance also described the UK and US' relationship as 'a beautiful alliance', during a speech at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. It comes after Mr Vance and the US president joined a call with Sir Keir Starmer and leaders from across Europe, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, to discuss the war in Ukraine. During the call on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said Mr Trump's interventions over the Ukraine war have created a 'viable' chance of a ceasefire. Mr Vance met Foreign Secretary David Lammy earlier on Wednesday, where he said they 'worked on one of our most important shared security goals in Europe, which is the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine'. The vice president has previously criticised Europe over its defence funding, with leaked messages from a US Signal group chat showing Mr Vance saying he hated 'bailing Europe out'. He also criticised the UK in February, over a legal case in which a former serviceman who silently prayed outside an abortion clinic was convicted of breaching the safe zone around the centre. ‘Viable chance' of ceasefire in Ukraine thanks to Trump, says Starmer
Donald Trump's interventions over the Ukraine war have created a 'viable' chance of a ceasefire, but Britain stands ready to 'increase pressure' on Russia if necessary, Sir Keir Starmer has said. In a call with allies on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said the meeting expected between the US president and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is 'hugely important', but any deal must protect Kyiv's 'territorial integrity'. It comes amid concerns about the prospect of Ukraine being sidelined in negotiations about its own future after Mr Trump suggested any truce would involve some 'swapping' of land. Leaders including Sir Keir and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky held virtual talks with the US president earlier on Wednesday as Europe braces for the outcome of his face-to-face discussions with Mr Putin in Alaska on Friday. Mr Trump told reporters in Washington he rated the call 'a 10' and revealed a second meeting, with both the Ukrainian president and the Russian president present, could take place 'if the first one goes okay'. Co-chairing a meeting of the so-called 'coalition of the willing' – a European-led effort to send a peacekeeping force to Ukraine in the event of truce – Sir Keir said any deal must sit alongside 'robust' security guarantees. 'This meeting on Friday that President Trump is attending is hugely important,' he said. 'As I've said personally to President Trump for the three-and-a-bit years this conflict has been going on, we haven't got anywhere near a prospect of actually a viable solution, a viable way of bringing it to a ceasefire. 'And now we do have that chance, because of the work of that the president has put in.' Further sanctions could be imposed on Russia should the Kremlin fail to engage, and the UK is already working on its next package of measures targeting Moscow, he said. 'We're ready to support this, including from the plans we've already drawn up to deploy a reassurance force once hostilities have ceased,' he told allies. 'It is important to remind colleagues that we do stand ready also to increase pressure on Russia, particularly the economy, with sanctions and wider measures as may be necessary.' Mr Trump announced last week that he would meet Mr Putin on US soil on Friday, as he seeks an end to a conflict he had promised he could finish on his first day in office. It is believed one of the Russian leader's demands is for Ukraine to cede parts of the Donbas region which it still controls. But Mr Zelensky has already rejected any proposal that would compromise Ukraine's territorial integrity, something that is forbidden by the country's constitution. In a press conference alongside German chancellor Friedrich Merz after the joint call on Wednesday, the Ukrainian president said 'Trump supported us today' and the US is ready to continue that support. French president Emmanuel Macron said the US president had been 'very clear' on the virtual meeting that he wanted to secure a ceasefire in the talks on Friday. Asked if it was his decision not to invite Mr Zelensky to his meeting with Mr Putin on Friday, Mr Trump told reporters in Washington: 'No, just the opposite.' 'We had a very good call, he was on the call, President Zelensky was on the call. I would rate it a 10, you know, very, very friendly.' He added: 'There's a very good chance that we're going to have a second meeting which will be more productive than the first, because the first is I'm going to find out where we are and what we're doing.' He continued: 'We'll have a quick second meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky and myself, if they'd like to have me there.'
