Pasir Gudang expressway widening phased opening details this week
The three-lane road expansion aims to improve traffic flow along the busy industrial route.
Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh stated that sections of the five-kilometre project will open progressively based on readiness and safety assessments.
'This allows the public to benefit from completed sections sooner,' he said during a site visit.
Key focus areas include CH1170 near Petron and CH4200 close to the Wau replica roundabout, where potholes and poor lighting have been persistent issues. Over 467 road patching works have been completed since January, and 197 streetlights will be installed by July 11. Additional spotlights and warning blinkers will enhance visibility at blind spots.
Motorists experiencing vehicle damage due to potholes can file claims with the contractor or concessionaire.
'Road safety is a contractual obligation, and claims require a police report with photo evidence,' Mohamad Fazli clarified.
The Pasir Gudang Highway is a critical route serving over 5,000 factories and linking Johor Port and Tanjung Langsat Port. The RM301.5 million Phase 3 upgrade, expanding the highway from four to six lanes, is set for completion by June 2028. Meanwhile, the RM78 million Phase 2B upgrade from Bandar Seri Alam to Pasir Gudang will finish by February 2026. - Bernama

JOHOR BARU: KTM Bhd's Electric Train Service (ETS) alignment work progress to JB Sentral here is on schedule, the state government revealed. State works, transportation, infrastructure and communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said there is no delay in work being carried out along the alignment from Segamat to Johor Baru. 'Work on the ETS is on schedule based on the timeline given. In fact, testing for the ETS service to Kluang will start on Thursday. 'If all goes well, the ETS service between Segamat and Kluang can start by Aug 15,' he said when contacted yesterday. Mohamad Fazli said if the work progress kept to the timeline, the ETS service to Johor Baru would start by the year's end. He said that, according to the schedule, the work on the alignment at JB Sentral is anticipated to be finished by November, after which testing would commence. 'Once everything gets the nod, we are looking at December for the ETS service to start its operations to JB Sentral,' he added. Sunday Star reported that those hoping to ride the ETS to Johor Baru will have to wait until the end of the year, if not next year. Checks along the 180km alignment from Segamat to JB Sentral recently showed that significant electrification and signalling works were incomplete, especially along the 100km stretch between Kluang and JB Sentral. At the section near Johor Baru, the catenary system is still undone, with contact wires and other critical components of the overhead line equipment (Ohle) yet to be installed. Ohle is the system of overhead wires and supporting structures that supply electricity to power electric trains, and it is a critical part of railway electrification. The 192km stretch from Gemas to Johor Baru was touted to be ready for service by August, with Transport Minister Anthony Loke also saying so earlier this year. However, there has been no update since the short stretch between Gemas and Segamat began ETS operations on March 15. On another matter, Mohamad Fazli said the state government has sent its proposed second Rapid Transit System link to connect Iskandar Puteri and Tuas in Singapore to the Federal Government.

He said that although the road formed part of the Pan Borneo Highway project, the contractor was still responsible for its maintenance, as stipulated in the contract. 'Under the contract, they (the contractor) are required to maintain the road in areas where the highway is under construction and ensure it remains in good condition, not in its current poor state. 'Yesterday evening, I travelled along the road in Work Package 29 from Moynod to Sapi Nangoh. I was disappointed and upset to see its condition. It's causing inconvenience to the people. This project should make life easier for the people, not cause them distress,' he said. He said this to reporters after inspecting the progress of the Naval Region 2 Headquarters (MAWILLA 2) jetty construction project here today. Ahmad also shared that during his trip to Sandakan on Monday, his bodyguards had recorded four videos showing the damaged road conditions, which were later forwarded to the Works Ministry's top management. He said three stretches along the route had drawn public complaints due to poor maintenance, namely, Jalan Sandakan Batu 32-Moynod (WP28), Jalan Moynod-Sapi Nangoh (WP29), and Jalan Sapi Nangoh-Sungai Baoto (WP30). Ahmad said he had instructed the Public Works Department to conduct regular site visits to monitor the progress of the Pan Borneo Sabah Highway Phase 1A project and observe the difficulties faced by road users, with verbal or written warnings to be issued to the contractors involved when necessary. He stressed that the Works Ministry could appoint a third party to carry out maintenance on damaged roads caused by the construction of the Pan Borneo Sabah Highway Phase 1A if the contractor failed to do so, with the cost to be deducted from the contract value. 'For example, if the cost of repairs is RM5 million and the main contractor was awarded a RM300 million contract, the contractor would only receive RM295 million, while RM5 million would be paid to the third party,' he said. He emphasised that contractors are contractually obligated to ensure road usability during construction. 'Under the agreement, they must maintain roads in construction zones properly. The current state is unacceptable and burdens the public,' Ahmad told reporters after inspecting the Naval Region 2 Headquarters jetty project. He shared that his team documented severe road damage in four videos, forwarded to the Works Ministry for review. Three critical stretches have drawn public complaints: Jalan Sandakan Batu 32-Moynod (WP28), Jalan Moynod-Sapi Nangoh (WP29), and Jalan Sapi Nangoh-Sungai Baoto (WP30). Ahmad has directed the Public Works Department to intensify monitoring and issue warnings to non-compliant contractors.
