"Will go to Supreme Court...": Producer Amit Jani after HC stays release of 'Udaipur Files'
'We had screened this film for their lawyer Kapil Sibal, so even after the screening, he had to oppose it because he had taken fees for it. Today the High Court said that this film is being stayed right now. We are going to the Supreme Court to challenge this decision. They have been asked to go to the Central Government and the government will give its decision within seven days whether the film is right or wrong...,' he told ANI.
He further said Kanhaiya Lal was murdered in front of the camera three years ago. Till date, there is no verdict in this case.

The stay will remain in effect until the Central Government decides on the revision application filed by Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind against the certification granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
A Division Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Anish Dayal passed the interim order while hearing two petitions, one by Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind and another by journalist Prashant Tandon, challenging the CBFC's decision to grant certification to the film.
The petitioners argued that the film's release could disturb communal harmony and pose a serious threat to public order, given the sensitive nature of the subject..
The Court observed that since the petitioners had been relegated to invoke the revisional remedy under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, the release of the film must remain stayed until a decision is made on their application for interim relief.
'We provide that till the grant of interim relief is decided, there shall be a stay on the release of the film,' the bench stated.
The movie is based on the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan, who was brutally killed in broad daylight by two men allegedly angered by a social media post in support of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The incident had triggered national outrage and raised serious concerns about radicalisation and communal violence. The film was scheduled to hit theatres on July 11.
The petitioners contended that the film sensationalises the incident and may further inflame tensions. They also raised concerns over the timing of the release, just ahead of upcoming elections in several states. (ANI)

HC defers departmental inquiry against ASI due to similar criminal case
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh High Court, in a recent order, deferred the departmental inquiry against Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sobant Singh, who is also facing a criminal trial for an offence under Section 74 of BNS, 2023 (Assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty). This includes the recording of the delinquent officer's statement. Singh approached the High Court challenging the initiation of disciplinary proceedings and a departmental inquiry against him. An FIR was lodged against the petitioner on March 18, 2025, and a chargesheet was subsequently filed in the trial court. The department then issued a chargesheet for departmental inquiry on May 29. The petitioner's counsel, Abhishek Pandey and Swati Kumari, argued that the allegations in both the criminal case and the departmental inquiry were identical, as were the main witnesses. They contended that recording statements in the departmental inquiry before the criminal case would disclose the petitioner's defence, potentially prejudicing his criminal trial. They cited previous orders of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Conversely, Anmol Sharma, Panel Lawyer for the State, opposed the petition, stating that the charges were serious and constituted misconduct under service regulations. He argued that there was no absolute bar to simultaneous proceedings and that the decision depended on the facts of each case, citing the Supreme Court's judgment in Divisional Controller, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation vs MG Vittal Rao. The court also noted that allowing the examination of common witnesses in the departmental inquiry prior to their examination in the criminal case could adversely affect the petitioner's defence. Referring to other Supreme Court judgments, including Stanzen Toyotetsu India Private Limited vs Girish V & Ors (2014) and State Bank of India & Ors vs Neelam Nag and Others (2016), the court affirmed that while no "straight jacket formula" exists, deferring the departmental inquiry is appropriate when witnesses and evidence are the same. Therefore, the High Court allowed the writ petition, directing the respondent authorities to defer the disciplinary proceedings against Singh until all common witnesses in both cases have been examined before the trial court in the criminal case. The disciplinary proceedings can then proceed.

Brazil police raid home of Bolsonaro, accused of plotting coup
Brazilian police raided Jair Bolsonaro's home on Friday (July 18,2025) as a judge imposed further restrictions on the far-right former leader while he stands trial on coup charges that have vexed U.S. president and ally Donald Trump. His son Eduardo Bolsonaro, a congressman who recently moved to the United States to lobby for his father, wrote on X that federal police carried out a "raid on my father's home this morning." He lashed out at Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, a Bolsonaro adversary who on Friday ordered the ex-president to wear an electronic ankle bracelet, not leave his home at night, or use social media. Mr. Moraes, one of the judges in Bolsonaro's trial for allegedly seeking to nullify leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's 2022 election victory, said the measures were necessary given the "hostile acts" against Brazil by the accused and his son. This came after Mr. Trump announced a 50% tariff on the South American powerhouse for what he said was a "witch hunt" against his ally Bolsonaro. Mr. Moraes, said Eduardo Bolsonaro, "has long abandoned any semblance of impartiality and now operates as a political gangster in robes, using the Supreme Court as his personal weapon." The judge was "trying to criminalize President Trump and the US government. Powerless against them, he chose to take my father hostage," he added in a letter he signed as a "Brazilian congressman in exile." U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Friday Washington was revoking a U.S. visa for Moraes for his "political witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro." 'Supreme humiliation' Accusing him of creating a "persecution and censorship complex," Rubio also announced visa restrictions on other judges who side with Mr. Moraes, as well as their immediate family members. Bolsonaro, 70, described the Moraes order Friday as a "supreme humiliation" and said the prohibitions were "suffocating." It also prohibited him from approaching foreign embassies, and confined him to his home on weekdays between 7:00 pm and 6:00 am, and all day on weekends or public holidays. The case against Bolsonaro carries echoes of Trump's failed prosecution over the January 6, 2021 attacks by his supporters on the U.S. Capitol to try and reverse his election loss to Joe Biden. On Tuesday, prosecutors asked the trial judges of the Supreme Court to find Bolsonaro guilty of "armed criminal association" and planning to "violently overthrow the democratic order." The defense must still present its closing arguments, after which a five-member panel of judges including Moraes will decide the ex-president's fate. Bolsonaro and seven co-accused risk up to 40 years in prison. He has repeatedly stated his desire to be a candidate in presidential elections next year, but has been ruled ineligible to hold office by a court that found him guilty of spreading misinformation about Brazil's electoral system. Mr. Lula, for his part, said on Friday he intends to seek another term. "You can be sure that I will be a candidate again... I will not hand this country over to that bunch of lunatics who almost destroyed it," the 79-year-old said at a public event in the state of Ceara.
